some time ago I had got a 1918 lincoln centennial and stone wall centennial. glad i got them. Though I got them ungraded, but they very nice. Now on the look out for a Pilgrim.
The Market Review gives better pricing (and it’s free). I’ve said for many years how terrible the pricing is on the Red Book and I stick by it even today. Also, the Market Review has a cac’ed coin price guide. When I bought the Hawaiian, the seller had a 65 but in my opinion (and three others there), the 65 wasn’t as appealing to the eye as the 64+ CAC. Also, the 65 was $500 cheaper! So just because a coin is a certain grade doesn’t mean it doesn’t go beyond that grade somehow with the way it looks and appeals to the eye. In my opinion, I got the nicest Hawaiian at that show that I could find. Maybe another gem was in there that I missed… I can’t say that I’m sure I saw 100% of it all! Not really what you were trying to say or talk about but I thought I’d talk more on that coin and why I chose it :)
I do just the opposite I skip slabs and go straight to the raw, I will look a t slabbed after but my first choice is small dealers and raw coins. Did you run into any other utubers I know there where a lot in attendance

You are marketing the coins shows the way they need to be show cased. I call it the walk through experience. It has a behind the scene flavor. You get the coin collector juices bubbling. If they only knew how powerful the imagery was they might pay you to document the proceedings.
Probably not a good show for people who collect raw coins. Especially ones that are not really valuable. Smaller shows best for that, as tables are expensive at the big shows, so dealers bring high $ slabbed.
Wayyyyyy too long and I loved every minute of it!!! To me the best part (besides seeing Coin Guy) is just you scanning all the vendor's tables. I get to see and drool over some great merchandise.

I have to agree with you. I started collecting as a kid and it was the feel of the coins, being able to hold them in your hand to imagine the people who must have handled them before me. Slabbing is the monetization of the hobby and for me it destroys the magic.
@@martinellis7156 intresting comment , im from uk and here at the coin shows its the total opposite. Majority of collectors like to hold and inspect the coin in hand . Also the old collectors dont like slabs at all . I generally like to try buy the best rawwr coin i can and grade it myself as it increases the value also helps me resell as some dealer can beat u down on price when selling coins Atleast when the coin is graded its done buy a 3rd party and its done to a standard and you know what your getting . My next show is sunday and i cant wait 😁
@@Spegtacular yes you are but in the old days you could ask for the price, and with a smile say, “that’s a little bit high for a VF-35, isn’t it?” And any dealer with a sense of humor would enter into a dialog. And let’s face it, while you will pay a premium for it being slabbed, you will get standard grey sheet when you sell it, despite making it easy for the dealer to determine the grade. But the bottom line is it’s your money and you can spend it any way you like. Peace Brother. Wish I were there.
I picked up a California commemorative at the show today…. Along with many other coins, my favorite pickup was a tube 20 of 1923 peace dollars in good mint state bu. A few 64s in there I think… I paid 680, that’s a steal. Fun show rocks…
There's nothing crazy about your half dollar journey. I did the same thing with Morgan dollars years ago. It's a real blast to get more coins you love!
Wow , I could not be in there without at least $5000.00 on Me Burning a Hole in my Pocket to spend . I would get 1 Ounce of Gold the Hard Way fractionally and Small Silver and Copper coins I guess some Commemoratives .
Speg, I went to the FUN show yesterday, and it was overwhelming - and that was just the drive on I-4 to get there! For people that haven't been to this show, just imagine any coin or paper currency you could think of and there was a dealer there who had one or even a dozen examples of it. It was mind blowing to see coins worth over a million dollars and the sheer volume of premium coins in one place. I also liked that all the coin grading services were there, the U.S. Mint, as well as activities for kids. I picked up some GSA morgans, other silver, and some pre - 1933 gold. Thanks for the great video of this show, and I can't wait till next year!
I walk into these FUN shows wondering how much value in coins is in that room as well as coins up for auction. I estimate $500 million to a $1 billion worth of coins. It's an amazing show.
I enjoyed this video, Speg. I have a soft spot for commems. I've had a very nice raw uncirculated 1893 Columbian since I was 12yo and both the Antietam and Gettysburg in MS 65. I picked up the latter two from Ben at Old Pueblo Coin.
