2017 ranger xp 1000. Was able to get the shaft in and out by taking the nuts off of the steering box. With the steering hanging, I was able to get the shaft in with clearance. Only took a few extra minutes with no need to completely remove the steering box. No need to cut the front frame. Hope this helps for future endeavors. The rest of your video helped me to get to that point though. Thank you for that.

Yikes. Glad you got it out, but I have to agree with your frustrations... They have a good product and some loyal customers, but they gotta step it up when it comes to ‘new innovations’ that don’t hold up, ease of serviceability, and reasonable replacement costs. Great video again. Thanks.

I am working on one now. 2016 900xp 3800 miles. I am just as frustrated. I have worked on a lot of equipment. This machine is junk. Just replaced all the wheel bearings, drive shaft, cv shafts, front diff, and the rear diff is on its way out. I have a Honda 1000 with no issues. Thanks for the video. Doing the front diff this weekend. $1000 just for the diff. Like you said $530 for the drive shaft. This thing is a money PIT.

Polaris does need some parts now and then. but I have a but I've never seen as big of money pits like some of the Yamaha's and hondas I've been around. Not to mention pure evil to work on.

I'm just wondering, would you have been able to change u-joints without pulling the prop shaft out?

Yeah you have to loosen rack and pinion to not have to cut it. It did 1000 front diff upgrade on my 2016 ranger 900xp high lifter edition. I know your frustrations.

I fill your pain. I agree. I got a front diff problem. Making my front tires lock up and fight each other. I'm not going to fix the diff. $1300 FOR a new one. This is not worth it. Just going to take prop shaft out and have 2 wheel drive only.

Polaris does have many many issues, but overall good bang for your buck. Can Am is no better.
wondering if you checked if a driveshaft repair shop could have rebuilt the old one,
    would have been alot cheaper.

So I have a 2018 Ranger 900 XP standard cab and I am having the same issue with the prop shaft. I have a terrible noise coming out of it and a ton of vibration when driving so I am fairly certain it's the prop shaft. Does anyone know if any of the other older model ranger pro shafts with Universal Joints would work instead? Also, someone else suggested removing part of the passenger side floor board and the clutch cover and taking it out between the frame and the floor board. I am also curious if removing the skid plate would permit for easier removal underneath and what restrictions there may be to replace the prop shaft underneath. Any insights would be appreciated.

Have you gotten the issue fixed? We have the exact same ranger, and we are facing the same issues. We are wondering whether or not it is better to do it our self, or make a dealer do it (Because of the price ;))

Dropping the skid plate and underneath access wasn’t an option?

No, the 900s prop shaft runs through a narrow tunnel between the foot wells in the floor. That machine probably has worse access then any other Polaris I've worked on yet
