What Polaris DOESN’T want you to know about the Ranger

  • The Polaris Ranger has been around since the dawn of time, and they were made to do one thing: work. But how does a Ranger that rolled off the assembly line ten years ago compare to a brand-new unit? Is it still the Ranger we know and love? We compare a 2014 Ranger XP 900 to a 2024 Ranger XP 1000 to find out.

    Hell I’ve still got an 2012 rzr 800s that I bought new ,many upgrades superatv power steering,best upgrade lol,it’ll do anything the turbos will do not as comfortable but I’ve got seats out of a 1000 much better than stock, 5000 miles and I’ve changed belt once,brakes a few times,bearings 3 times,plugs once,keep the oil changed and air filter blown off,suspension bushings once with the SELF LUBRICATING ones so far so good,ball joints a couple times,tie rod ends,I can’t complain engine runs like new no smoke,valve cover leaks a little but I’m sure it’ll last me till I’m too old to ride one lmao overall extremely happy

    I've noticed the same thing with four wheelers. It's hard to justify a new one when you can restore an old one. Purchasing that 2014 model new and still putting 4,500 in repairs is still cheaper than a brand new one fresh off the lot. I'm in the same boat. I drive a 2002 Yamaha bear tracker. I like the smaller size I don't need 100 horsepower I don't need a hundred foot pounds of torque I don't need a big mammoth almost 55-in wide machine. My point being I've looked at new 300 class ATVs Honda Kawasaki tracker Arctic cat. They are all the exact same that I already have. The only upgrade would be a CVT transmission and actual front suspension not McPherson struts like Yamaha used on the bear tracker. Still a single shock swing arm solid rear axle carbureted no EFI and Kawasaki Tracker and Arctic cat are all the exact same machine Kymco makes the 270cc motor. Tracker and Arctic cat's plastics are exactly the same just different colors and it looks like a freaking ride on lawn mower. It's hard to justify the $5,000 price tag when for 600 bucks I completely restored my Yamaha. So if more people found older machines and put some wrench time and parts into them these new prices would not be able to hold.

    The 2014 900xp single row 3 seat version was 68hp.
    The 900xp crew is the one that had only 60hp.
    I had a 900xp single row 68hp and now have a 2022 1000xp. I can say without a doubt my 2014 would have smoked my 2022. Only differences were the 14 was hardcoat poly instead of glass and the 22 has a winch, otherwise identical options. The 14 900xp was a BEAST until it was left in gear by somebody on a hill and it lost the battle to a tree. R.I.P.

    Good comparison. I agree with another commenter, the 2014 HO model had around 68hp. I own a 2013 XP 900 which I purchased new, stock is 60hp. Since, I’ve added a Dura-Clutch, programmer, Elka stage 5 shocks, aftermarket wheels (makes it a 3” wider stance) A-Arm guards, rock sliders, hard doors, removable windows, windshield, light bars, 72” snow plow and factory heater. Rig really rips and handles amazing! Great to putt in low when working, plowing or hunting. BUT hauls butt when out with the Boyz! I ride with several guyz all in RZRs. I keep up very well for what I have and have a great time. Certain places I can’t do what they do, but we have a great time. So these rigs are really underrated and are very capable. Sand is where the RZR’s blow me away. Most trails and desert locations I keep right with them. But I still get the working benefit. When something gets loose from wear, I fix it and keep the rig serviced and tight. Recently started being tough to start in the colder weather, adjusted the valves and runs/starts like new again. Great rig I’ve enjoyed for years. Also works great to teach teenagers how to drive!

    ahaha that was fun! Polaris does a great job on their units, I had a Sportsman ATV (I think it was a 400) back in 2014, it was a great machine, I am currently trying the Argo line up of ATVs and UTVs and plan on long term testing them out, they won't compare to the Polaris as my Argo UTV is only 443cc and is a entry level one, but none the less I like it!

  • @Longslyde1
    @Longslyde1 5 місяців тому +4

    Nice overlook, and no disrespect to UTV Driver, Thanks for this, But it would be great to do the same comparison on a 1500HD to the 2014. Bet the outcome would be about the same. So much to cover....The 1500HD is out....yeah....at $45,000 for a "Ultimate" Model. 3 Seater. AND CAN'T GO ON TRAILS! TOO HEAVY. They don't tell you that until you are signing paperwork. Doesn't meet class 2 UTV regs in MN. ORV Registration only. NO faster than the current Rangers or the 2018 I had before looking to upgrade. Maybe a little better on solid feel, but Polaris, THIS IS NOT A $45,000 VEHICLE! They can say what they want about it being a "Specific" vehicle for those who don't want to use a truck. But it is priced where you can get a truck that will last 10 Times the miles their Ranger will. (Speculation of course, but past history is the barometer). The factory warranty shows it. Polaris will only do 2 years standard now, trucks are 5 years. Saying something? Yep!. If Polaris was so confident in reliability against a truck, they'd match the warranty and promote that.... It's Still loud as hell, even with the "new" tractor CVT. Still feels like she'll be used up at 6-10K miles depending on how you ride. I feel Polaris is testing the waters on how much we will absorb as a consumer. Yeah they're going to sell some, But I've had 4 Rangers and One General over the years, and have been a total Polaris junkie, but after seeing the new prices on the Rangers.....I AM DONE! Polaris is now lobbying to get the weight restrictions raised on Class 2 UTV just so they can run the trails. DNR is fighting it. They'll probably get it done so they can sell these heavier vehicles for trail use. If they do, you'll have to seriously consider other vehicles for less money and FAR better build like Jeep or Roxor. Both of which will probably net you 10 times the miles out of the vehicle with far less issues along the way. Speculation of course, but I've been there. I think Polaris put themselves in a box at this point, and the consumer will speak. If people continue to buy it , they will make it, can't blame them. But I won't be one supporting them anymore. Sorry for the rant, LOL! And again, thanks for the comparison, if Polaris is brave enough to lend you a 1500HD to review against the older models that were a fraction of the price, I bet you'd have MANY views. But Just knowing what I know so far, I'd bet they'd think twice if they knew your plans. People will probably bash me for saying all this, but I've done my homework and went a different route. Thanks again for the vid, UTV Driver! I'll be watching for a 1500HD comparison if you can get your hands on one! 😁👍

    • @Meqanicull
      @Meqanicull 4 місяці тому +1

      Well if you buy used, you don’t support them but I agree with your take here. These things are touching used jeep, midsize truck, and even some full size truck pricing. Unless you have your own land or take very tight trails there is almost no point in buying one of these over a jeep, especially when you consider price, reliability, and overall functionality. Unless you are getting one for less than 12k or just really want/need a UTV you may as well be looking a 2 door or even 4 door jeep.

    Would appreciate any suggestions. 2012 Polaris 800 Razor EFI hesitates at 45-50 mph. 45 is about 6350rpm. Not really a sputter or cough. Repairman just cleaned throttle body and fuel injectors and said idle air circuit was partially open causing a misfire at that speed. None of the work performed solved the issue. One person suggested the primary and secondary cluthes might be fighting each other. Need to get it fixed pretty quick so we can sell it and move, but I want it to be right. I should also mention that it has full power no issues 0-45. No codes, no engine light. Always at that speed only.Thanks. Appreciate anything.
