"This is for your security and safety" is always tied to some absolute BS
"Those who give up freedom for safety deserve neither, gamers rise up!" - Myao Xi Dong
Authoritarians always say "This is for your security and safety". The National Socialists said the same when they confiscated all the guns from the jews, and the Democrat Socialists are now doing the same by blaming gun violence on legal gun owners instead of mentally ill people using illegal firearms which make up 80% of the cases. Nothing ever changes.
Security and safety have never had anything to do with Sony.
Although they do try to look after your mental well being by not informing you of the latest data breach right away, leaving it several weeks or even months before letting you know (and worry) about it.
Funny thing is that psn accounts are often hacked at a large scale
anri repair
Creating a PSN account is about the worst thing you could do to "protect players", given how often they're hacked
requiring an additional account will have less protection regardless of how secure the additional account is, its still an extra thing people could attempt to hack
Makes sense from Sony's perspective though. You get to artificially boost PSN numbers to shareholders and in advertising. Look at all these Playstation players! Never mind they don't have Playstations or aren't playing the console, it's a PSN account, still counts!
@@Blisterdude123 now that you say that, i wonder how that would look from a legal standpoint.

ISSUE IS: their kernel anti cheat on pc gives full system access then having to link a psn account means sony now has full access to your system and its data to sell
It also gives Sony the ability to police speech on in-game voice chat.

@@LockedPotato decode it into IT noob windows user
@@mateuszkrytyk5711 Linux doesn't allow the full rootkit-tier anti-cheat to run. Applications aren't allowed to run code as ring0/kernel mode. Even with root (read: admin) privileges. It’s crazy that HD2 did so much right for the players and in return, it became Sony’s 7th highest grossing game. Then the lesson that Sony took from that is to force account linking because that’s what the players want.

1. Sony didn't really think that this game would be this success for several reasons(such as: the game uses obsolete graphic engine, unproven possibility of Co-op genre, etc). They barely made any advertisement for this game.
2. Most of the user feed back & managements are done by Arrowhead developers. Sony contributed technically nothing to user A/S.

Sorry Sony, after you installed a rootkit on my PC in the name of DRM, you lost the right to say anything you do is for security.
I mean, after they did that, a ton of anti-consumerist gamers just up and accepted it, so it makes absolutely perfect sense that Sony would push the exact same envelope even more, and the sad fact of the matter is that the same anti-consumerist games are going to sit and take it, and make the industry worse for the rest of us.
Anyone that got Helldivers 2 to begin with after the monetization rootkit thing was revealed is to blame, and we shouldn't feel sorry for them, because they'll eat this shit and grin about it, and keep giving their money to the megacorps.

In a game about freedom, how ironic.
Years ago? Bro, didn’t they get hacked AGAIN this year?
It is about safety and security, because they are hard region locking all the bad players from all the bad countries like russia and China. It's nice to play a game knowing you don't entertain any invaders and socialists.
"Safety and security" is corporate speak for "eff you and your dog too!"
And I was thinking of buying it on Steam. I guess I will wait till it's pirated or just watch it on UA-cam.
At this point games also need a Sony Detected Group like the SBI Detected Group. The only difference at this point is that Sony waits until after a game releases to corrupt it, instead of corrupting it before release like SBI.
The odds of Sony being the one pushing this as a requirement?
It's 100% right?
pretty sure it was confirmed to be sony pushing a legal clause onto arrowhead for this..
I heard it was always a thing they just didn't push it until now.
Wouldn't be able to if Helldivers 2 devs didn't accept the bribe from them. They're all greedy.
100%, yeah. Sony just started with the new PS overlay in Ghost of Tsushima as well that integrates the trophy system, so obviously Sony is making moves towards integrating their PC games with their existing ecosystem. And for an online game, that means requiring PSN, I guess
Why would arrowhead want to push the requirement?
It does not make any sense for them to do it.

Apparently PSN is only available in 69 countries out of ~190 countries. Not even all European ones. And using VPN or lying is against their terms of service. I think they’re going to have to make a choice on that one.
1.) They have to change their TOS and country availability (or just require VPN’s lol)
2.) Actually support all countries steam does/did when they purchased it.
3.) Allow refunds for all players impacted who can’t get PSN following TOS
4.) Just back pedal and don’t actually enforce it.
If they don’t do one of the 4… not sure. Some people have a pretty good case, in a legal sense, if they’re denied access to their product due to the country they reside in/play from. (As I understand it).
This is the o ly viable beef out of this whole thing , making a account is normal. But having to make one in a region u don't let ppl make one I. And selling the game....that is not good and either Sony or steam is at fault for that.....
Idk who tbh, and it should be on steam to let them players refund no matter how many hours in the game they have for selling a product steam knew( they had songs rules at the start) ppl in that country could not abide by.....
This is more of a steam beef than. Sony. But steam could ask Sony to let them counties make the account, but it's prob more deep than that.

They farmed Ws at the release, they've been farming Ls since then. Arrowhead didn't make a single good decision since the game blew up. Almost 50 armors, 7 passives, half of them are useful. Weapons "balancing" absolutely destroying any form of fun in the game. Teasing a new faction and multiple new enemy units for the factions already there, not releasing any of that. Teased mechas and vehicles, we got a single mid mecha they nerfed to the ground. Their community managers are a bunch of angry fucks worse than the redditors they talk to.

Damn, im curious what this will do to the player numbers. Sony out here putting Helldivers 2 on the altar for sacrifice.
Honestly? Probably not much. Maybe it dips a bit, but if you look at the change in numbers a year down the line, it's going to be a minor blip. Steam page always had the PSN account warning, so nothing changes for new buyers. And as for current players, the overwhelming majority of the people who spent dozens of hours having fun with the game, isn't going to stop doing that, and will just spend a single minute setting up an account. Sure, nobody likes it, it gets a big backlash, but I'd be seriously surprised if this translated to a lasting, large drop in player numbers.
@@WarfokiYou are probably right... which is even more infuriating because it means their little trick will pay off. Encouraging them to try it again next time as well.
I'd love to be proven wrong though... just this one time...
A small decrease due to players in some countries not being able to make PSN accounts. The vast majority of players, including those complaining about this, will make a PSN account or use the one they already have. Gamers love eating shit and being trampled on.
Player numbers are already collapsing after two garbage nerf patches.
@@nidungr3496 Ehh, I admittedly wasn't playing when the first one dropped, but as a daily player now, this second nerf wasn't all that big of a deal. Also, the game dropping in numbers from the crazy opening week was to be expected. If the game would be a flop, we'd see 90%+ drops, like with any other flopped live service game. But instead we see about 60%, which is fairly normal. If the game gets regular actual content updates, it has long legs to stand on. If it doesn't, it'll die to people getting bored. Either way, this current drama will be largely inconsequential.
This is absolutely a Sony move and not a arrowhead move
