- The only area I haven't upgraded on the Dana 60 axle of my K30 Blazer is the brakes. They worked just fine, but I cannot leave good enough alone. Enter Torq Motorsports and their Big Brake Adapter kit! 14" rotors from Powerstop Brakes and some twin piston calipers! I can't wait to test these out!
Check out torqmotorsport...
The powerstop kit I used was PWR-KC5411-36

This is awesome just got a GM dana 60 gona rebuild it with all these beauties
I need to do a follow up video but I ended up needing to drill out to hub for a 5/8 stud. Dorman 610-049
Thanks for the part number. That was my question. @@MerricksGarage
Notice you didn't put longer studs in... That's gonna get you some day. I think I'd be looking into it.
Solid brake upgrade nice to have good brakes wheelers always seem to gain weight. Also Chevy dana 60's are hard to come by in Michigan but we are tripping over super duty axles in the pick in pulls here.
Dude those super 60s are killer. Driverside drop and high pinion!
I sure do wish I lived closer to you Sir. I could definitely use your help on my 85 K20. Lol
Love all you guys do keep up the greatest work!!
Great brakes. Love them on my rig. Again, another great video!
Right on!
Dude your K5 project has been so fun to follow. You built a beefy yet functional Blazer. Would be so rad to wheel with you!
That's sick! Wish I could do that on my dually!
Very informative!
That’s GREAT!!!
Sweet !!
Heck yeah 👍🏻👍🏻
Just ordered the wilwood caliper kit for the c20 two drive thks
Huge upgrades to power, suspension, steering and now brakes. I think this k5 could’ve called an off-road resto mod.
I’ve never heard of anyone breaking an axle shaft on a Dana 60 k5. Are the chromoly inners/outlets just for peace of mind when running places like sand hollow?
Yea peace of mind, basically. Moving the fusible link in the drivetrain to the u joint in the driveshaft. Easiest one to replace I figure
@@MerricksGarage Hey sir , we enjoy your great & fair contents !
Could we work something out for fans ?❤
I love your show and I have seen yes you have a closed captioning and sometimes no closed captioning
Oh no! Sorry about that. Let me check into the settings! Thanks for letting me know.
So I picked up a Dana 60 axle. I think. It has king pins. It says Dana on it. Had leaf springs on it. And what looks like a Panard bar.
Also has 2 piston calipers with theses weird looking pins that wedge the caliper to the spindle. I’m pretty sure it came out of a ford.
The question is if this is indeed a Kingpint Dana 60 that I have Why can’t I just leave the brakes as they are with the double piston calipers?
did you ever sort out a vacuum booster master for this kit? i have a 2005 silverado 14 bolt with factory discs and from what i gather i need something in the 1.3-1.4 inch master cylinder range
Love your videos. Great looking rigs. Super helpful info too. Do you have concerns with the slots and holes in these rotors picking up rocks and sand, etc while off road?
The brakes on my F350 seem to be about that size on my dana 60.. the rotors slide over the hubs in the same way-- I wonder if those are simply rotors off of the Ford style Dana 60? interesting. (I guess the bolt pattern would be different though).. My pads are huge. I've put over 100k miles on them and they are still 1/4" thick, which was shocking to me. That's with towing quite often also.... I finally broke down and put rear brakes on it though; I don't think they had ever been changed. When I got my truck it had 170k miles on it, and the brakes on the front looked brand new then, so I think they had just been changed. But I have 330k miles on it now, and they still look great on the front. I honestly don't understand it. lol.. They last so ridiculously long.
Will the stock 16" wheel fit?
Where you running the stock master cylinder with the stock 1 ton breaks people have been telling me I have to up grade to the 1 ton boosted system
Is there a kit like this available for a Dana 44 on a 71k5 6 lug? Im running 1 inch spacers up front and would like to convert to separate hub/rotor set up. I’m looking to keep the 6 lug & run a built 9 inch in the rear. Thx!
What is the minimum size wheels that will fit the 14in roters & clear the calipers?
I think you have to upgrade to 17" rims.
I’m interested in the driving part of the video!!!!
I took a drive with some hard stops and the rears lockup before the front. Ordered a new Wilwood proportioning valve. Will update
How bout a bracket for D350's. There website lists no dodge components
Nice
What’s the price ?
On the brake kit .
What size rims on your K5 .
Rear brakes don’t remember any video on that .
hydro boost with adjustable proportioning valve in the cab that be nice when are you gonna do that lol .
You can easily grind that hub yourself. Mount it to your truck as normal and have someone continually spinning it as you grind on the edge.. It will be virtually as concentric as if it was done on a lathe. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes with grinding wheels. Definitely don't use a sanding flapper wheel.
No closed captioning on my reading TV and other good closed captioning on
what about now. I think I fixed it.
I see that the axle is painted well (or looks like it at least). What would you recommend to use for paint on an axle? Thanks!
I have tried everything from POR15 to the undercoatings etc and the best stuff I have found is Steel-IT. Only comes in two colors, like a silver and this black, but I LOVE it. Its like $40 a can so not cheap but damn if it doesn't hold up really well
@@MerricksGarage thank you so much! Love the content!
Steel it,
Speedy but worth every Penny!!
Will this clear a 16" dually rim?
What diameter wheels are you running?
What caster degree are you running on the 60. What mph can you run in 4wd.
What size were the rims that those brakes fit in 16 inch
Were do they sell this kit? Or did you piece it together? Thank you
this one comes from torqmotorsports.com
Ok thanks
Do they make a kit for a 87 c20 rwd front thks
Is there a reason why you can't keep it hub centric? Your really hurting the durability and putting way more stress on your studs. I've broken wheels off from heavy hauling with stud centric setups.
And this won’t work for a 3/4t d44 Chevy axle?
no, I don't think so
What size wheels
What size rims you have on your truck
17"
Do you need longer studs?
I do need to put in longer studs, but the ones I had did work
Is the value caliper from the she year dodge?
Huh?
YAY, I'm Finally the 1st VIEWER!!!!!!!!!!!
you did it!
@@MerricksGarage LOL
What size wheel do you need to fit them?
they make a couple kits. I think they do one that you can run a 16" on. These are 17" and I am putting the same kit on the Burb which has 18"
Oh wow, surprised it will fit a 16. I run a 16.5, so that should work. Thanks!
@@jizomeovonsteelwind The 16" kit uses 2000 - 2009 and later Chevy Suburban 2500, 12.80″ Inch Rotors and Calipers, not the 2009 - current Ram 3500 14" rotor and caliper.
I've run the kit with the Suburban brakes for the 16" rim clearance. I regret it. The stock Dana 60 brakes could take heat better when towing heavy.
@@benboor7924 Good to know, I have 17" rims now, so I will definitely go with the bigger set.
Dana 60 should already have a brake upgrade duh!
Why? The stock bendix calipers are simple and strong. Works for 90% of applications
