Very good video. For defrosting vegetable room better disconnect power supply for solenoid valve and keep running fan for 2-3 hours- also very good way.
thank you for ur time to show us problems of recarding ac and provision systems on board. the line after the expansion valve can be icy but when the TEV is icy this means that a sudden drop of pressure happens before the TEV which can be caused if the TEV filter is dirty.
Interesting vid! I work on a lot of really old systems, have seen a few TXV's where the inlet filter has become blocked with dirt. Also have had a few where systems have been converted from CFC's to HFC's where the TXV has got wax in it which also blocks the flow.
Awesome, another well done job. As a still inexperienced Engineer, I would really like to sail with you. Im sure that I would learn a lot. And just having really good colleagues like you would for sure keep one motivated to constantly improve :)
isn't the TXV supposed to automatically adjust the amount of refrigerant passing through by sensing the refrigerant temperature at the output of the evaporator coil?
If you have to adjust the TXV to solve an issue that wasn't there before with similar settings I would say the TXV is faulty or you possibly miss something else (blockage around inlet TXV?) and are solving a problem by offsetting your TXV. (P.S. I sailed on he same vessel as you in 2009 - Maersk Salalah.)
I can be wrong, but Superheat is the amount of heat added to a vapor above its boiling point. As a result, it shows the amount of heat your Freon has gathered over time. This means that the evaporator is frozen because you have too LOW superheat, but not too high! Too much Freon goes through txv and in the video you are reducing the quantity of Freon and that is why increasing superheat. Am I correct, colleagues?
Hello mr lecky. I am also electrician of the ships. I want to learning with you about cold storage no cool because having ice on expansion valve. I ask to you what cause this ? Please help me
Should you check for superheat with a thermometer and gauge pressure prior to adjusting valve? I hope so. The room doesn’t look like a new installation. Possibly worth replacing the TXV completely if it isn’t functioning ok
THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE EVAPORATORS WITH HEAT ELEMENT AND TIMER FOR DEFROST NOT ONLY FOR TEMPERATURES BELOW ZERO BUT ALSO FOR TEMPERATURE ABOVE ZERO WITH HIGH OR LOW HUMIDITY IN THE COLD ROOM. AND YOU WILL NOT SEE FOR EVER ICE IN THE FINS OF YOUR EVAPORATORS. NEVER TOUCH/TRY TO ADJUST THE EXPANSION VALVE BECAUSE IT IS FACTORY ADJUSTED WITH THE CORRECT SUPER HEAT. CHOOSE THE CORRECT ORIFICE. KEEP THIS ADVICE FOR THE FUTURE. THANKS FOR READING 🇬🇷
THAT'S WHY WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN, IT'S SHOULD GIVE THE DOOR SWITCH, THE ORDER TO CLOSE THE SOLENOID VALVE AND FANS TO STOP. IT DEPEND FROM THE ORDERS YOU GIVE TO THE ELECTRICAL PANEL.
@@tsalikistsalikis3118 That still isnt going to get rid of the high humidty air introduced each time room is accessed. Need after market defrost heating strips installed with timer to initiate and shut off solenoid and fan.
Hi my friend Leckyjake, I'm speaking from Brazil, I'm trying to find out about the Alj281 from the Daikin container.. Other than the SMV valve, the SMV coil, and the solenoid coils, what else can cause this alarm?
When txv supplies more refrigerant ice will form on evaporator right .? If supply refrigerant too small how ice will form. Might be temperature not in level. Okay
Thanks brother for this vedio. I want to know when all the three rooms are running evaporator outlet line is freezing up, but after switching off two units its not. what do you this will be reason. Checked refrigerant charge is ok.
That's why there is a method called ''DEFROSTING'' (1) Stillstand - Shutting the system till the ice melts (2) Let the fan only run in the evaporator (3) Heating rod in the evaporator. (4) High-Pressure hot gas flowing pipe from the compressor directly to the evaporator. All the above-mentioned processes apart from the 3, are automated and have time intervals. You adjusted the TEV by turning counterclockwise. This means you opened the valve more. This means more refrigerant is sprayed in the evaporator. When more refrigerant is sprayed in the evaporator, it gets cooked more slowly ( turns to gas form more slowly). This will result in the refrigerant leaving the evaporator in a semi-liquid state. This will result in very low SUPER HEAT. I don't think you have solved the problem. The temperature in the vegetable room seems to return back to normal because after you cleaned the ice block from the evaporator the fan is circulating the air in the room properly. But soon ice block in going to form in the evaporator and the same problem returns back. Instead of adjusting the TEV, you should have checked the DEFROSTING system's functionality.
Dear Lecki Jake, if there is too little refrigerant in the evap. coil, it will get excessively heated up ( high superheat ), resulting in sensing bulb opening the txv to admit more refrigerant to the evap. coil, however you state that there is too little ref charge in evap.coil due to high superheat - could you please clarify this? thanks
Great video as always! Could you perhaps sometime in the future make a video on how to perform safety checks for the ME, Diesel GE, Emergency GE and Boiler?
Hello lecky have a nice day Actually I am on the same ship which you have done that vedio regarding the ice formation in veg room. I have adjusted the TXV but still same the ice formation please suggest what to do
Actually you need not to adjust expansion since it is a factory set. Adjusting is only be done in case of emergency. The icing of of evaporator not clearly emphasising the major cause. There is one big reason why icing occurs immediately. It is always the fault when malfunction of one component but pointing to expansion valve is really not the real thing at first.
Hey bro just have a question right above the TXV all the way to the evaporator was filled with ice what you think causing it? it’s a little condensing unit..thanks
thank you sir for all of this informations, i'm studying mechanical eng and i hope you can suggest some hvac books to learn more about fixing problems in hvac sys . thank u again .
why not use a constant pressure valve to hold a fixed temperature? with that you can hold a exact temperature just above 0 without any chance of freezing. its the standard for flower storage for example.
@@leckyjake yes, i understand that. i just wonder why they didnt use such a valve. is it just for parts commonality or just a engineer that assumes everything always works perfectly all the time?
The temperature for the rooms should be variable, from negative 22 degrees Celsius to positive 22 deg Celsius. In this way they can use for various reasons.
If its after the filter ( the side that goes in the compressor suction port ) that means you've got a clogged suction filter, and maybe you are flooding back the compressor but maybe not, only superheat could tell you if you've evaporated all of the refrigerant or if there is still some trapped in liquid state

It has no Dfos system....
Also, liquid leaving evap will "slug" compressor
Adjustment nut is downside so counter clockwise means closing the valve
