Audi AAN Timelapse: RS2 Turbo Install & Headgasket Repair

Timelapse of ~6 weeks of work on my 1995 Audi S6 Avant. Headgasket failed at 160k miles due to a crumbling thermostat housing, so since the head had to come off I decided do the upgrade I've always wanted: RS2 Spec.
The RS2 was never sold in North America, but represents the ultimate street version of the legendary 5 cylinder turbo. I also installed a Wagner Tuning manifold which outflows even the RS2 manifold, RS2 injector replicas, a tune from EFI Express, and a 1.9 bar wastegate spring. I outsourced the headwork and had new valve guides, valves seals installed, the valves were back cut for more flow, and the head surfaces was decked (121mm measured through bolt holes, 118 is minimum), along with newly machined valve seats. The turbocharger was disassembled and Cerakoted (link: • How to Rebuild a Turbo... ) , as was the intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Power was 230hp stock, but I am now at roughly 360-380hp; EFI Express claims 300hp/300ftlbs at the wheels. Love it!!

Software: call Marc and tell him what you're running and he'll be able to get you an appropriate tune. I'm also using their stainless steel fuel inserts on the intake manifold.

Your wastegate still has the OE P/N tag on it... I have no idea why these disappear... but I located one in the junk yard and put it back on my car. :)

i have a question i have an audi s2 coupe ABY i will change the exhaust manifold to put a wagner evo but does it have a seal between the wastegate and the exhaust manifold please
when I dismounted the wastegate I did not see just a steel ring placed on the exhaust manifold and that goes on the underside of the wastegate that's all
as I did not buy the new car so I do not know if that was disassembled or not
I was surprised not to find a seal

Needing some help, so for removing the downpipe nuts are you able to reach that last one easier after removing waste gate? Or do you still need a half moon wrench to reach it? I’m doing a head rebuild and it’s my first time so any tips would be amazing
I took a wrench and put it in a vice and heated it up and beat it with a hammer til it was the shape I needed. Took a while. Sucked. Lol. Bend metal til it works!

They are from 034MS
We think from a C4 Vette or something like that.

Where did you get all the blue coolant hoses that are under the intake manifold? Nice work! I'm doing the same job on my s6 right now!
ebay hoses. Wish they were black tho. Just type AAN Coolan hoses on ebay. :)

Nope, stock fuel rail is fine.

And you must make a personal remap with them and your oe FPR.
Could anyone help me understand why he changed the oil and filter twice?
Fresh turbo w brand new bearings, head was machined/decked so it was full of metal shavings when I picked up from machine shop, cleaned everything the best I could, but idk if I got everything. Also scraped the block mating surface, any slivers of metal or gasket material could also be issues. Oil is cheap. Pulling the engine apart and doing rings or bearings isn't.

@@ADDvanced Dunno. Just thought it might make it easier to clean up all the areas in the engine bay, paint the block, replace the tin crank breather in the block. It's still fun to watch.
