  • What is up everyone! I just wanted to get this year started off right, so I wanted to get this highly anticipated episode II video posted ASAP. Sorry about the crappy audio throughout the video, I'm really not good with computers so I'm still learning how to do this right. I do not consider myself a professional, I am merely a motorsport enthusiast that loves high power, fast speed and big turbos :)
    Just because you see something in this video doesn't mean that it's right, but I try my best to not give any false information. I'm hoping the next video in the series will be a parts video when I get everything in and get the crankshaft back. I plan to include prices for every part shown in the video. It will take some time to get everything back so thanks for your patience. Stay tuned guys, 500whp AAN here we come!

    What's up everyone? Just wanted to get this year started off right by uploading episode II of my newest build series. I'm having a lot of fun with it and I have a lot more ideas for future videos with this project. I will hopefully have all the parts soon so I can show you guys everything involved including prices.
    It will take some time to get the engine block, cylinder head and crankshaft back from the machine shop so I greatly appreciate your patience. This thing is gonna be a certified ripper when it's done, can't wait!

    Bro, excellent video (and series)! I bought my '94 with a built bottom end already, but it's great to know if I ever need to pull it apart I have such a clear, concise, and in-depth guide to follow. These cars are so rare in the US, and so many of the owners are... let's say "distinguished older gentlemen" who often have trouble posting pictures on a forum, never mind filming and uploading videos. Someone who actually knows what they're talking about posting quality ur-S content like this is a welcome change.

      I saw that at the end of your video and I thought to myself how ironic. I have been wanting to try this turbo out and with the opportunity of a new build, I quickly talked the owner into buying one. It's a no brainer, for the money I don't think you can get a better one at this power level. I also have plans to upgrade the oil cooler since the turbo is no longer water cooled.
      I'm itching to see what it can do as well, I personally think the newer sxe line can handle the higher 35-40psi of boost without issue as they are designed for diesel engines. In my experience running over 30psi with ball bearings is just a matter of time until failure. It is going to take some time to get everything back for assembly so I may get bored and just slap this s257 on my car and test it out at all different boost levels for a video :)

    Just finished the hr. + Vid. So pumped on this practical real time no frills content! Are there any advantages that the 3B has over the AAN or does it all tip in the laters favor when you add in the RS2 manifold and relocating the radiator to the rear (I'm building a Sport quattro replica). Going the 7K route is tempting but would rather stay true to the old school Audi platform. The only reason I ask is I've found a reasonable 200 with a 3B with moderate miles. Thnx again for all the knowledge 💣!

    Hey man, on your last vid in the description you listed the GT3071R which I've been thinking about going with. Would you recommend either that one or this Borg Warner S257SXE that you showed in this one. I'm hoping for 400whp setup similar to this one just toned down a little.

    • @quattro4life20vt
      @quattro4life20vt  3 роки тому +2

      I think it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I like the BW because they are cheap and reliable. For 400whp the S257 would probably be too laggy. The S252 would be a better match for that power level in my opinion but I haven't tried one so I'm basing this solely off of data. The S252 compressor wheel is very close to the gtx71R so it should make similar power.
      The GT3071R on my friends car makes around 400whp at 24psi on E85 maxing out the stock AAN. In my experience the car is more fun when you can push a smaller turbo on higher boost versus only being able to push a bigger turbo on lower boost. I'm trying to get an S252sxe for the channel so I can compare it to the 257 so we'll see...

    Just a question as far as hydraulic lifters go… I’ve had an AAN sitting for years and finally getting around to working on a swap into my coupe.
    Some of the lifters are spongy. Is it possible that they’d be fine once it’s running with oil pressure, or is that a dead giveaway they’re toast? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    • @quattro4life20vt

      Not a bad question, there is a good chance they are fine. The AAN that I installed in this car on the first episode was the same way. Sat for years and all the lifters had that same spongy amount of play when pressed on.
      They made a lot of noise on first start up, but after about 5 to 10 mins all of the lifter noise was gone. If I was you I would just go for it! I'm sure you will have similar results :) thanks for watching!

    Whats up Quattro4life, i have a silver 92 S4 second owner 150k miles, only mod is removal of complete exhaust system and replaced with 3" turbo back. So my car started having problems with anytime i would put throttle wide open the car was cutting fuel or dumping boost almost violent. Now im only running at 75 % power and factory boost gauge is stuck at 0.8 regardless of RPM.
    Any ideas im thinking tubing running to ecm is kinked or has a hole. Let me know what you think. Also sensor at end of fuel rail is cracked a little can't seem to locate online or what its called. Thanks man big fan would like to hire you to build my car to 500hp.

    • @quattro4life20vt

      I would definitely check the vacuum line for the map sensor in the ecu. It is common for the line to pop off at the moisture trap located under a cover on the fire wall just behind the fuel pressure regulator.
      The connector at the front of the fuel rail is for the cam sensor. Follow the wires, they should go behind the timing cover to confirm. If your car starts up then you shouldn't have an issue with the cam sensor.

      Best way is to get the locking tool number 2084 and torque it to 250 ft lbs. That's what I do for my engine. You can run it on with an impact gun but it is possible to damage the key way on the sprocket and if that fails then so does the engine. @@markroberts9225 yes I reuse mine every time, pretty sure my crank bolt is original. You can throw some blue loctite on the 4 bolts that hold the pulley to the crankshaft sprocket. At 250 ft lbs of torque I don't think it is necessary to use it on the crank bolt. But if it makes you sleep better at night then I'd say go for it!

      As far as the engine internals go the factory pistons are forged and can easily support 600whp. The factory rods limit you to 400whp on a stock AAN. Swap the rods out and throw in some ARP headstuds making it a bulletproof budget setup at 500whp in my opinion...

    • @quattro4life20vt
      @quattro4life20vt  3 роки тому

      The exhaust manifold is not going to effect the MAF sensor so it doesn't matter. The MAF works fine on lower power levels but when you run high boost/power it is recommended to delete it and run speed density.

    • @marcusholmare
      @marcusholmare 3 роки тому

      Yeah but the manifold places the turbo in an akward position to run with the MAF. Do i need to do any mods to run with just speed denisty or can the stock MAP sensor do that?

      @@marcusholmare Marc at EFI express can set you up with speed density tune on the stock motronic ecu if your interested. Either way, if your going to run the manifold you have to delete the airbox and turbo inlet pipe. You have to make a new intake that is similar in length to the stock turbo inlet pipe, this will ensure that the MAF will function correctly.
