@@TotalTesla That's probably it, any camera based system will get blinded by a low sun, thick fog or really heavy rain/snow. In most cars even with much simpler systems, if you don't have enough redundancy (radar, ultrasonic sensors, other cameras...) some functions (lane assist, blindspot monitoring, road signs recognition, even automatic high beams...) can shut down and user has to take control.
I don't understand performance Model Y's. It makes sense for the 3 as a the sedan is more focused on speed and handling, but why give up range for a little more speed in an SUV?
@@kenhiett5266 good question..I wanted something that was easier to get in and out of. I also play Hockey so it has bigger cargo for me. If we ever take the parents out it's easier for everyone. And every once in a while I like to take it to the drag strip. 11.9 is fast. Range for my daily driving isn't an issue. Went to Florida in the spring it wasn't an issue. When I bought my First Model 3 I ended up making it look like a Performance and wanted something faster than 13.5 in the quarter mile. So I have the best of both worlds. Those needs may change when I upgrade to Juniper. But that won't be for quite some time as I'm happy with what I have and hope to pay it off.
@@TotalTesla If I was going to take mine to a drag strip I'd want the quickest version as well, so that makes sense. I like to go on road trips, so maximizing range is important to me. I do like to have that power on tap to get into gaps and the rare time and place it's appropriate to juice it, so I opted for the acceleration boost. A Dragy clocked me at a 4.1 something and a 4.2 in 2 passes to 60. I can't imagine what the new performance 3 must feel like, but I'm excited to try it. Like you, I'm looking forward to the new Juniper refresh, but if the suspension and sound system (tune unintelligible at low volumes) aren't much better, I might keep my '23 Y and add a slightly used '24 performance 3 instead. As a driving enthusiast, I've owned many different vehicles over the years and the 3 and Y are probably the best production vehicles ever made in their respective categories.
@kenhiett5266 well while I love the great new tech I need to wait for better battery performance and maybe since we have AI4, wait for AI5 to upgrade at that point. I'm happy I did make the move when I did but it only was because at the time to transfer FSD and it all fell into place with all the other things I wanted with performance and more comfort. So I'll see what happens in the next 3-5 years.
@@TotalTesla I didn't know there was another FSD hardware upgrade on the horizon. I wouldn't want to buy a new Juniper if the upgrade is possibly coming in another year or 2, so thanks for that. Hopefully we'll have enough information to navigate when to buy. What do you mean by better battery performance specifically? Are you talking about range, weight savings, the charging curve, or all 3? Would only a small improvement in the aspect(s) you care about hold you back from buying the Juniper?
@kenhiett5266 18 months was noted recently AI5 on the Q3 earnings call We Robot Event. Better efficiency more range ...faster charging possibly. That's limited to V4 superchargers. But yeah. For me I would want not only the looks of a new vehicle but hardware and overall technology changing too. So for me buying Juniper to get a new body style and AI4 isn't enough since I have AI4 already.
If enough people disengage and report 'driving too fast for conditions' or 'speeding like a teenager', maybe we'll get speed control for owner/drivers. Sadly, Tesla doesn't care about us, we are just paying to test their CyberCab software for them.
@@TotalTesla I think a large percentage will end up feeling that way. I'm a driving enthusiast, so I rue the inevitable day that our driving privileges begin to be taken away. It's definitely great for mundane situations like stop and go traffic or lengthy road trips.
@@kenhiett5266 the best thing is we have choices. The car is so versatile. You can drive or you can let the car drive while supervising. Driving privileges will be decades away. Reg cars will take many years to replace. I'm 53. So hopefully when I'm way way older 😁 it won't be a big deal.

$100 per month for this cutting-edge technology is nothing. With all the imperfections, it's still amazing. I use it at some point nearly every day.
