Sony isn't interested in making good movies , it's only interested in not losing Spider-man's universe
@henri_ol And making woke propaganda shit
fr
This was a throwaway movie for Sony.
@henri_ol Well other then Spiderman across the spiderverse that came out last year
@@autisticDementiadon’t…just don’t add “woke” into the conversation, it’s just BAD, simple as that 🤷♂️
Sony literally went through their entire catalogue and said, "Hey, lets take the blind old lady in a wheelchair and make her Dakota Johnson!" and then proceeded to make a superhero film that rivals the shittiness of Morbius.
Them choosing Morbius and Madame Web has me thinking they're going through D-list characters from the '90s _Spider-Man_ cartoon. Why not better characters? Because they don't want to make superhero movies, they want to make CW specials.
Morbius blows this movie out of the water, Sony really messed up with this one
It's Morbin time!
A reminder that Sony has to keep pumping out "Spider-Man" movies or the rights revert back to Disney. Prior to the Tom Holland deal, they were in discussions to make a young Aunt May movie. They are probably choosing the ones they think could work as standalone movies rather than better/more popular characters who work less well as standalones.

Dakota Johnson's Madame Web is Ryan Reynold's Green lantern 😂
its still sad that Ryan was forced to play the green lantern so he can get the role of deadpool

Must still be pretty bad then…
This was supposed to be a blockbuster movie but instead it turned out to be a flat flop. It's disheartening to see the potential talent go wasted like this due to lack of interesting storyline and engaging script. Seems like Hollywood needs to go back to drawing board to understand what the audience really wants.
facts
I don't know. They say it's supposed to be a blockbuster but... this entire thing feels like some kind of experiment to see how audiences react to a movie actually written by A.I. lol
Movies are made bad on purpose... Quantum of Conscience
Sony originally bought the rights to the Spiderman franchise. Then Disney acquired Marvel, and Disney isn’t allowed to release a full Spidermam film themselves because Sony still owns parts of it.
With that said, I never thought I would see Spider-Man in civil war. Him jumping in was a great moment for me. Then they did Venom, Morbius and Madame Web wrong.
I don't want either of them to have the rights. They both fuck it up.
@@p00p13f4c3 Venom 1 was not great but it wasnt bad either, venom 2 was. Venom 2 should have been bloodier imo, like 18+.
Owns al lthe main characters
wait what - sony does not own any part of marvel. They only own Spiderman.
What pissed off the fans of Madame Webb, is like, this was a perfect opportunity for Marvel and Sony. For one, Webb is, in comics, parapalegic and blind, operating around her conditions and disease. Like, in seriousness, that's always been a part of the character from inception. It was a PERFECT opportunity to show us something different. You could've gotten someone like Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep to play her, and ironically, even if they couldn't go the length of an MCU contract, that's totally works, because Webb does die in the comics, and uses her abilities to transfer her powers to another woman, Julia Carpenter.
The problem is this obsession with origin stories. Madame Webb is enigmatic, despite coming into comics in 1980, almost nothing is really known about her past life beyond the basics. She's a pre-cog telepathic mutant, she can astrally project her body, perform psychic surgery on the minds of others, her husband set her up with a life support rig that looks like a spider's web, and she has a daughter that eventually becomes Spider-Woman. THAT'S IT. 44 *years* of comics, and that's the whole of known background.
Sony just kicked all of that over to do the same bland crap that they always do with this stuff. Like, even in the era of wokeness, they could have *genuinely* portrayed the character as writtennd hit every single box they could have wanted. A powerful woman, disabled, facing a horrific disease, and still working to her best to help the world. I mean, COME ON!
Just the introduction of this character to the big screen gives me hope after reading your comment that we get Helen Mirren in Secret Wars. That would be AWESOME
99% of all marvel movies were wack i think blade 1 and spiderman with tobey are the best closest to the comics all others are wack . Maybe put hulk 1 with Edward Norton . That’s it
Very well said, Madame Webb was a very fun character from multiple points of view IMO, not the protagonist, mind you, but still very fun to interact with. Can't really tell what they were trying to do with this one...
"Even in the era of wokeness, they could have genuinely portrayed the character as written and hit every single box they could have wanted. A powerful woman, disabled, facing a horrific disease, and still working to her best to help the world."
But they "know" that the "dumb masses" don't like that, because their other woke stuff with similar material weren't big successes. So they do this instead because "lol superhero lol boys like explosions but we need grl pwa to inspire girls too".
Ok but its kind of sad how bad it seemed to be bc I liked the idea of the movie and the trailer wasn’t that bad to me 😅I really wanted it to be good 😢
Dakota Johnson sounds like she was starving and had no choice but to work in that movie lol.
She probably had no cash to pay the monthly bills...
Thats likely if you aren't a A-lister actor and irrelevant afterwhile. Doesn't help her reputation as an actor didn't hold water well after starring in a shitey movie (3 of them) Fifty Shades.@WRILLI4M
If she’s starving, she should go back to swallowing instead of trying to swing webs
but better then calling it fifty shades of web and having it be explicit

If you're wondering why the film felt like a CW episode, the director had only directed episodic shows before Madame Web. Good decision to entrust a film with an $80M budget to a TV and streaming director, Sony.
80 million!? I thought it looked cheap because it WAS cheap. I figured it was 30-40million tops. Where did the money go??
@@how8132 I did too. I had to look it up. A lot of these woke films and series seem to have issues with balancing a budget.

Whoever greenlight this, must be the most unintelligent person in the world. Seriously, I now questioning the IQ level of people at higher up.
Things have gotten so bad in Hollywood that there are now people who are only interested in acting until they can find a job working as a server in a restaurant.
They hired attractive actors just to sell tickets from actors who know nothing about the source material. JUST WHY!!! 😢
Attractive? That's a big stretch.
Why?
Because Noob producers and directors like to think they're the bestest ever, and they manage to convince the dumb higher up, that they can do better.
And then didn't play up their attractiveness in the film itself. Sydney Sweeney is like one of the few actresses in Hollywood with the bust size equal to what is traditionally seen in comic books. Having her in a skin-tight costume all movie should have been step one before they decided on anything else about the movie.

I think bad boring movies came about partly because we told a couple of generations of kids that everything they created was wonderful and they never had to edit or rewrite anything. Creativity was a free for all instead of learning skills and rules for making something great.

Do you remember a show back in the 90s that came out when The Simpsons and South Park was just starting to get big? Call "The Critic"
Every episode he would critique a film and say "IT STINKS!" nowadays, people think 'words are violence' and to give a critique like that where a person's work/"art" is insulted is a hate crime and it's transphobia/sexism/terrorism/genocide. Literal what people will call you for being at all critical about someone else's opinion, then all of a sudden the focus is on YOU as the critic, and not this joker's poor excuse for 'art' or 'expression', it's all about how mean and intolerant you are to give an honest individual opinion about crappy work.
In other words, 'The Critic' or even 'Siskel and Ebert' giving 2-Thumbs-Down to a film would be see as too much for soft Gen Z or Gen Alpha to handle nowadays. You can't even do most stand-up comedy routines nowadays without some group getting offended and threatening to boycott Netflix or mass quit from their corporate positions at the company. FFS.

100% Agree, it is truly done right.
I personally had a gripe with how the movie took an easy out by making the God of War the villain when they originally set it to be the 'concept of war' in the earlier part of the movie. The latter makes for an interesting movie in my opinion, as the protagonist can't punch their way to a win...when what they are facing against is an amorphous idea rather than some physical entity. That said, Wonder Women is still the best female 'superhero' movie, I concur.
it was fantastic. i think where it hit the mark was it didn't once feel cheesy (like captain marvel etc.) and for me as a woman it was so nice to see a strong female character that wasn't a Strong Female Character(TM) if that makes sense.

I actually went to go see Casablanca for the first time on Wednesday in theaters and I loved it. That movie came out in 1942 yet its still an amazing movie. It's really sad how we can't really get great movies anymore and they keep letting the people who don't even like comic books or the source material direct, produce, and write these movies.
So some background that might explain Dakota Johnson's response... Right when the Madame Web trailer officially released, she sacked her agency and got a new one. Speculation says that she was told this would be a MARVEL movie and not a Sony one (so set in Tom Holland's universe)....
Bait and switch
Dakota Johnson probably gave Sony the green light to star in the film after she heard she'd be in a movie with Sydney Sweeney and they'd both be wearing spandex cosplay for most of the film... ngl Dakota is based AF for saying 'hell yes I'll do it' just on that description alone lol
@@teecakes Don't know if I'd say she's "based" since she was willing to wear spandex. She starred in Netflix's "Persuasion" by Jane Austin, which they made totally woke. I know movie studios think Marvel fanbase is "toxic". Ain't got nothing on Jane Austin fanbase insistence on the original being respected. (In the story, the main character is shy, reclusive, subject to domestic, emotional abuse. Netflix version, she was a boss-babe.)
@kathyp1563 It's possible she agreed just on the basis of it being Jane Austen and got stuck? Also possible her fans really like making excuses for her terrible choices in movies.
@@kathyp1563Jane Austen is for women and 80% of modern women are woke, and most have probably never even read one of the novels. The actors would be forced to DESTROY their character because at the end of the day, acting is a job that needs to pay the bills 😢
I'm not sure how, but the studios must be making money by deliberately slapping together crap movies. Money laundering / creative accounting? Something is going on.

Sony bought the film rights to Spiderman back in the early 2000s, which they still have even after Disney bought Marvel. AFAIK Sony can do any movie they want with characters that appear mainly in Spiderman comics but not in other Marvel comics. Its Disney who has to approach Sony to be able to have Spiderman in a Marvel Studios film even though they own the rights to Spiderman in all other aspects.
I'm still not clear on why Morbius, Venom nor Madam Web were able to have a version of Spider-Man in those films. Sony owns the rights, why would they intentionally remove Spider-Man from all 3 of those origin stories (in the comics Spider-Man had a hand in all 3 of these people's origin stories especially Mattie Franklin aka Sydney Sweeney aka 'Spider-Woman' from "Madam Web").
Let's not even get into the ridiculousness of removing Spider-Man (and Captain America) from the "Maximum Carnage" storyline that was augmented and released as the "Venom 2" film. Just incredibly sloppy adaptation work all around.
@@teecakes They could have easily centred these movies around Andrew Garfield's Spider-man to establish a frenemy type relationship with the anti hero characters like Venom, Mobius etc. But like most studios instead of using that feedback to make a better sequel, Sony just gives up on the character when one just movie fails because all they care about is the the cheddar $$$ and not the art or the potential.
But I am kinda glad that they DIDN'T use Andrew because I have a feeling that they'd have screwed him over too and tarnished his Spider-man's legacy in my mind
TLDR: Sony owns Spiderman movie rights. Disney has permission to make Spiderman movies. Sony is trying to make Spiderman movies without Spiderman. They should stick with the Spiderverse movies.
As a rule of thumb, box offices generally needs to make 2 - 2.5 times the budget just to break even.
Edit to add: the studios often lies what the real budget is to save face for the investors. So the Marvel's budget could be double or triple thanks to reshoots, edits, and last minute crunch time for VFX. Valient Renegade and WDW Pro are the best to talk about this sort of stuff.
How does that 2.5x figure come about...
@@janisir4529The 2.5 takes marketing and theater cuts into account. When people try to figure out movie profits, they make a couple mistakes.
One, they assume that the number that shows up when looking up “___ budget” is the official budget. That number doesn’t take marketing into (sometimes reshoots) into account which can be a considerable amount.
Second, they don’t realize that theaters get 50% of a movie’s earnings. Some studios, like Disney, have certain agreements with theaters on what percentage they can get during the first few weeks. However, the total cut a theater receives usually adds up to around half. That’s why movies need to make 2.5 times what it cost to break even
There's a looming legal threat from the family of the artist who purportedly created Spider-man...leaving those currently in charge of the property scrambling to figure out ways to keep a profitable Spider-man adjacent franchise alive should the ACTUAL Spider-Man be snatched away from them in court. It's not working, except for the Spider-verse films. So far everything rests on the back of Miles Morales. And that's not good because if they can't expand past Miles, they are almost certain to run Spider-verse into the ground.
@@trenton9 Legal stuff I haven't heard of, but I do agree they'll run Spider verse to the ground. It's more a question of what franchise HASN'T been run down yet.
The whole marvel cinematic universe should have ended, entirely, with End Game. It wrapped up the story with a nice little bow. There was no reason to continue, except for Deadpool. To explain the Sony and Disney/Marvel relationship basically at a time where Marvel was struggling they sold their film rights to a bunch of different studios. Fox had the Fantastic 4 and X-Men rights, hence why they made all those films. Sony got the rights to Spiderverse. Back in like 2015, really Disney wanted Spider-Man in the MCU so they made a deal with Sony to have what became Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. So Sony still owns the rights, they just share Spider-Man because it's extremely profitable

I think the under the car part was one of the 'clairvoyant' moments
Basically, back in the early 2000’s Marvel was strapped for cash as comic sales were way down. In an effort to save the brand and create renewed interest they sold the movie rights to some of their most popular characters while retaining tv, merch, etc. X-men and Fantastic Four went to Fox, and Spider-Man went to Sony. Then those companies paved the way for the superhero movie revolution. After the success of the MCU Marvel had money and wanted its ip back, but neither Sony nor Fox were dumb enough to cave. This led to the Disney buyout of Fox, but Marvel’s biggest character has always been Spider-Man. In order to keep the rights Sony has to produce Spider-Man universe content or they auto-default to Marvel. Thus they have “lent” Spider-Man back to the MCU in order to ride that popularity while simultaneously destroying the legacy of many of his side characters so they can keep cashing those sweet sweet spider checks.
I really hope Marvel is able to get the Spider-Man rights back at some point soon, because that would definitely help get them back into favour with the audience, and give them more freedom to do whatever they want with everything marvel. That would be super exciting
With Hulk going to Univeral and Blade to... was it New Line? Wait, didnt Disney own New Line, or was that Touchstone?
@@calebjp8904 I read some news that Sony is even trying to screw over Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4. Basically they want it to be another Multiversal Adventure with Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Man whereas Marvel was planning on making a street level Spider-man movie with maybe Daredevil and Kingpin.
From what I understand Tom Holland put his foot down that he'd rather step down on a high note and give another lucky kid a shot than to tarnish his character.

I doubt they would do it. But if Marvel made a movie dedicated to Ororo Munroe (Storm) and her life leading up to joining the X-Men, I think it would be well-received by fans of the comics and by casual movie goers alike.
It could be awesome, depending on how they handle it.
I LOVED Storm When i was little watching the 90’s x-men cartoon! I think they’d ruin it though, make it super race bated and feminist-y… i mean she actually didn’t trust or like men and i feel like they’d make it gross.
I saw what Dakota was wearing on the red carpet. I mean all of them were basically half naked. It's interesting how they all complained about objectification and then proceeded to invade every male dominated industry, force themselves into genres with a primarily male demographic and then proceed to destroy it. Thus resulting in us not being allowed to have hot eye candy characters anymore. So they were on that bandwagon but then show up to events with their literal lip hanging out. Make it make sense. It's like they dress like that and objectify themselves to get attention on their movie, but men aren't allowed to have it IN media?

The hired Sydney Sweeney solely for her boobs, because they knew this would fail. Which sucks honestly, because she's actually a pretty decent actress in stuff where she's not super sexualized.
Didn’t they do that with a ton of Spider-Man’s . The kiss in the rain scene Kirsten dunst comes to mind
If that's the reason they hired her, the wardrobe department made an odd choice by having her be the most conservatively dressed girl in the movie where you couldn't even tell the size of her assets.
@poit57 It's weird. It looks like they actively tried to make her smaller. Probably because she's supposed to be a teenager, but like... why hire the woman famous for her boobs to play an underage character?
Mmmm not sure if I agree with that, boobs or not she’s hugely popular right now. It’s a little offensive to argue that’s why she was hired considering Dakota is literally known for doing a series on BDSM
@Kwildcat13 sure but she wasn't the lead, she was the romantic interest. Granted I do think Kirsten Dunst is a good actress and is really good outside of that one scene. And outside of that scene, and the final battle of SM2, she's not overly sexualized. But in Madame Web, Sydney Sweeney's costume looks straight out of a porno.

I watched it yesterday, people are making it out to be so much worse than it actually is. I really enjoyed the movie, ofcourse wasnt my favourite movie of all time, but the plot was good, but predictable. It was enjoyable though and I loved the action.
The funny part is that I didn't even know this was a thing until today. I haven't seen a single commercial, ad, or post.
I only knew about this movie because of Hot Ones on YT xD
If "Marvels" was 270 million budget to film and then 200 million for marketing. They would need about close to $550 million to break even. Don't forget the theaters take 30% of the sales in the tickets. So they lost close to $400 million. More than it cost to shoot the whole movie including CGI and post-production.
They keep doing this over and over.
Then they try to kill their only likely hit as in Deadpool 3 by inserting their crap into it. Like "female X-men" apparently. Trying to use it as a vehicle to introduce them for the future.
Then star wars which is all female now as well.
They have destroyed everything .
Thanos was right all along
I thought Ryan Reynolds shut Disney up real quick about making a movie with an agenda? He's got fan service by finally getting Jackman to come star with him again, but I swear I've read he blocked Disney from putting any marvels or crap like this in DP3.
the ease of which she goes to ads is wild.
Cant imagine that Spiderverse and Madame Web came out of same studio.
Anytime in the past year when a woman is a main character I immediately wait for Brett's review before wasting any money.
Are you single?
@@LiamColeman-Halla-yq2jlWhat does that have to do with his statement

Sony purchased the rights to Spiderman and all related characters a few decades back when Marvel was on the brink of bankruptcy (I think it was in the 90’s). The same thing had happened to X-Men, they were sold to Fox. Sony is contractually obligated to make a Spiderman movie every so often, otherwise there is some kind of provision where the rights revert back to Marvel; there’s clearly no clause stating that Sony has to make a good or a profitable Spiderman film. Hence, Morbius/Madame Web/Kraven the Hunter(upcoming). When the ACTUAL Spidey is in a Movie, typically Marvel gives input and crosses over it’s own characters, and there is profit-splitting bw the two companies - which is why the movies that hv Spiderman, himself, in them are SO much better
Love how you promote the sponsor of the videos. Its Always so creative
Editing team CRUSHED it! 😂
I had no idea who any of the people in this movie are. I am actually a little proud of myself for that.
No kidding.
The plot of The Producers was meant to be a joke. Film execs seem to be attempting insurance fraud with all these surefire flops.
Money laundering for all the profit off child trafficking. Remember Wayfair?
Just watched it. Loved it.
Thank you!!! I wanted to go see it this week 😂
can we focus on important things like God and Kanye’s new album Vultures 1 that is streamable on UA-cam, Apple Music, Tidal, and Spotify and many more streaming services?
I only have one question...
Who the crap is Sydney Sweeney?
Euphoria star, blonde bombshell
The only chick in the movie that brought some level of attention to this movie from Twitter.
I thought Venessa Carlton was Madame Web upon watching the trailer. 😂
6:48 the confidence! and then went on to say random movies... LOL!!
Brett posts faster than you can blink. 💀
And people thought Morbius was the worst one. At least Morbius (at least for me) was somewhat memorable because of the memes. But this, this movie.. this movie has legit nothing! And before you know it, it’ll likely take the crown as the new Marvel meme crown!🤣
Watching the 'Madame Web Pitch Meeting' from the youtube channel Pitch Meeting saved me about 2 hours lol
0:40 No way that’s the Sonic Unleashed E-Rank Theme song lol
This movie was the biggest waste of $10 I ever wasted 😭🙏
First
Sorry lol

BRETT.... Where can I get that coffee cup and saucer???
This movie should have gone straight to the bottom of the Wal Mart discount DVD bin.
loved seeing 3c films get a cameo
Not you using the E Rating music from Sonic Unleashed at 0:40 😂
The goblet of spiderman make me crack
Basically if Sony doesn't put out at least one Spider-man related character movie every 5 years (I think that is the right time frame), then the rights to Spider-man, and all associated characters, revert back to Marvel (now Disney).
This is the same reason we got the not great remake of Fantastic 4, and the awful Dark Phoenix movie from Fox Studios (before they were bought by Disney). Once they acquired the rights, they had to make a movie every so many years in order to keep the rights.
You know it’s bad when even while watching the trailer you know it’s going to be bad 💀
This happened? I had no idea this was even a thing
Wiseau: Challenging my title and meme? How dare are you, Sony?
Its Morbin Web Time!
This video literally appeared after I watched the movie😂😂😂

I'd love to see them do a series on Squirrel girl lol
I just randomly decided to search you up because I was wondering how old you were, and we have the same birthday. October 12th. 😂
I already forget the name of this movie.😂
I only saw the trailer once and I could only think this: What the hell did I just see?
I'm just here to say that I heard that Sonic Unleashed music toward the beginning. The editor has great taste.

Omgosh the comp to Catwoman 😂🤣😂
The room is worse than The Village?
I’m curious as to how anyone was able to see the thumbs down count? That’s not even a feature anymore
