thank you people, for being able to put in music without it being overwhelmingly loud and distracting, but still loud enough to hear. you do some great videos
This group of videos was by far the best battle report i have seen. It was awesome and i loved how they explained the strategy of the armies and how they modified them to suit the opponent. Great work as always.
I'd say that this is probably my favorite WH40k battle report. Most other battle reports show the end of each turn, and the end of the game, without actually showing any action, and those that do show action often don't make any effort to make the actions easy to understand. I've never played a single game of tabletop WH40k in my life, and I could understand how the game proceeded. So kudos to you!
I didn't know much about what was happening but the guy that was talking the most did a pretty good job at explaining things I was able to keep up some what. I had no idea what was going on with the dice roles like what numbers dose what and why they pick this dice over that one and rolling consecutive times in a turn but all in all it was an interesting match to watch and I got to discover a new and interesting game of tactics. GG
Great battle report guys, probably one of the best ones i've watched! As a new player I truly appreciate the amount of detail you guys went into and how long each episode was. I don't mind watching these 6 part videos rather than 1 video that is 6 minutes long giving a 10 second run down between rounds... it was great watching the rolls etc. Gotta keep us posted who wins battle 5 ;)
Advice to Matt: Always remember, Carnifex before Hive Tyrant. Also, you can never go wrong with a Tyrant Guard meat shield. Helps you determine how your enemy's gonna blast you up.
@masterowen45 Yep, no restrictions on either the tank or passengers from a tank shock. Not only disembark but assault as well because the battlewagons are open-topped.
You guys talking about using the new codex, keep in mind that they played this game a while ago but it takes a while to edit the vid and then they wait for the right time to release them. This game was most likely played before the new codex came out. As for tank shocking and moving out of the way, please read the orc codex and the section about the deff rolla, it does wounds on anything it tankshocks (yes, even if they move out of the way) and actually do double that if you try and stand :)
All I can say for tips is that I just hope you can find something in the new codex to help you take down those tanks, unless you're planing on sticking with the old codex. But I can't wait to see what will happen in battle 5! Keep us posted please! As a 'Nid player, you help me out a lot with figuring out tactics!
I havent seen the tyranid codex in quite a while, but are there any blast weapons you can use? or ordanance(spelling?) weapons? If not, get more hive tyrants in, give em wings and go play fetch. There is also another way, like you said, of having alot of genestealers, you'll get some rending hits there surely.
Got to give credit where credit is due. Matt was come off like a jerk there in the begining. But he lost like a champ. Acknowledged his opponents strentghs, recognized he could improve and had the desire to become better after a loss. Tactics wise it was fun match to watch. Two heavy weight boxers going back and forth.
put in a Heirophant Bio-titan, that thing has 10 wounds and smashes through most anything. I read in someones blog that it ran all the way across the board in front of a line of Leman Russ tanks, AND SURVIVED, then crashed into that line and wreaked a ton of havoc before he managed to bring it down.
i have a question, is it worth spending points on a carnifex in a 500pts army? the hive tyrant costs like 200pts and so does the carnifex so i wouldnt afford more than that and a group of gaunts!
Matt I havent gotten the chance to read the new tyranid codex but from the old one you can take a broodlord and 11 genestealers (retinue) and infiltrate them. For this game it might have worked well if you were able to get the charge on one of the tanks and taken his tank out making the shoota boys a easy target for your barbed stranglers.
This was an awesome game and I was routing for Orks since turn 1. Honestly I think Matt should have gone close combat with the battle wagons. I know he says he doesn't wanna hear that, but seriously those battle wagons were sitting there for like 3 turns in a row, that was three turns of free hitting and going straight to armor penatration. Sure the Shootas inside would've been deadly but sometimes to win you gotta hit them hard while there's an opening.
To integrate this into 40k canon, I like to think of this as being part of the Octarius War, the big confrontation in the metaplot between the biggest Ork empire in the galaxy and Hive Fleet Leviathan (it's a bit like Armageddon, but the Orks are the heroic defenders overwhelmed by alien hordes this time!). The tyranids are even painted appropriately for Leviathan, and the large number of genestealers is especially appropriate in the Octarian war. Even the terrain suggests an ork-held world. 5/5
I like the fact that this video has bubbles saying "old codex 'nids" and people are yelling for stuff like trygons and tervigons and hive guard and whatnot.
matt, i think u should bring a zoanthrope or two for more cynapse and lots of psychic abilities. The warp lance ability would be really good against those battle wagons! and i would also bring a broodlord to improve those stealers
Today there was a tournament in my local area. The first game it was the sisters of battle against the tau empire. On the third turn a squad of ten saraphins charged the one fire warrior left standing. They did nothing. Then the single firewarrior retaliated. He killed one saraphin. He won the initiative roll and swept them killing all of them by himself. Guess who's getting a promotion in my army? :D
@19Marvin96 in a word, no. In fact for 500points you should consider using combat patrol rules, i.e. not requiring a HQ and not having any model with more than two wounds. If you google 'combat patrol rules' there are several versions people have made. I have found these work a lot better than trying to follow the normal force organisation chart, which is really designed for 2000points.
And when they get close, you can use a bunch of anti-personnel template weapons like flamers, and if they get super close you can throw in grenades to attempt to soften them up.
armor getting you down? try some pod zones. squads of 2 in pods. Drop in. kill tank, then die. but. if your playing killpoints its not worth it. but it is always a good tac for the objective style games.
Dan I think you should definately use the battle wagons the same way, that was really effective, but Matt in the future I think you could possibly come up with a way to include your genestealers a bit more and use there full deadly potential!!!but other than that great game!!! :)
I play tyranids but i'm quite new to the game so I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on venomthropes and how many I should get because they are me fav guy and I already have one.
I demand some Guardsmen Battle reports! Also, congratz to the Ork army for the win, was a great battle between two swarm armies. Nids could have rolled better. But oh well huh! More vids please.
@greencow12 nice one genius. max sized elite unit, all maxed out with best armour, invuln saves, painboy WITH orderlies AND a special character to lead them. There goes half your points on a single unit.
Matt should bring Pyrovores,trygon/Mawloc,or maybe some gargoyles sooo you can take care of his heavy units in the first turns also shoot from afar as well hope this can help
when he is tank shocking your troops you can move them out the way and let him coast by leaving the rear armor open to attack. Also try and get the new codex and use the zoanthroaps because of their physickik ability
I might be a little late to say this on here but I was playing a match in a makeshift tournament with my friends (6 friends) and In the finals as the Imperial guard almost all was lost but because of cover I only lost half my guys (5 guys left) against 7 Orcs (specific units not remembered) but in a last ditch charge against the Orcs luck was on my side 3 guys dead but 7 of his. This was in 2 turns though, for a no round limit total Annihilation. In the end I got $300 and 2 Priceless war heroes.
@KOAHUNT3R Sorry I ment his fexes should've gone up close to the battle wagons since fexes usually have a bowl of Tyramills' Honey Nut Tankos for Breakfeast
if anyone has any tips on what my ork army should use against a tyranid army i was thinking for a 750 point army i should have a warboss, 10 burna boyz, 50 ork boyz and i think thats it but if anyone has ideas for this army and what i should have in my 1000 point army plz
@xrobtion matt said that in this battle report he used the last edition of the tyranid codex... from what i hear, carnifexes were a beast in last edition, but crap in this edition, plz confirm
@lolcammy7 2 boxes of Killa kans will give you 6 walkers which can take out most things easily. Also get a Big Mek to help keep them going. A trukk or two could also help keep your boyz mobile. Hope I helped
The trukk's careen can be evil sometimes. One time I destroyed the trukk and it careened and landed right in front of my eldar war walkers, and the unit that was in the trukk just murdered my walkers
@mikeyvengeance yes it is the Zoanthrope but i disagree about glancing down by weight of fire, I play necrons it rarely works, the most you get is a few turns of no shooting for the tank or a couple of lost weapons. you cant rely on glancing, the zoanthrope is definately the best thing for it but unfortunately they are comparatively easy kill points for his boyz and with such a mobile ork force, you are better suited using trygons and spore drops
Talking about the Nobz. Could you not have just had a nob Squad inside a trukk? It would have protected them just as much as the boyz squads that you had. You could have torn through his bigger models a lot quicker then. This is just speculating that the trukk would have made it there in one piece without being blown to pieces along the way.
nooooo nom nom nom T.T was an excellent game tho btw guys, oh yer an can u make a battle report using the new tyranid rules? i wanna see them in action
I have an ork army of my own but im still convinced of my tactic of putting 20 sluggas in da battlewagon and just sprintin' it forward, unload 'em and PWN! With the other wagon i'd put 15 burnas and 5 nobz then shoot 15 direct hit burna plates on the enemy, man they are DEAD! But i like your shoota boyz tactic though im gonna try that next time.
thank you people, for being able to put in music without it being overwhelmingly loud and distracting, but still loud enough to hear. you do some great videos

haha Dan! "finally learned how to squash little bugs" :D
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Thanks for these videos! For someone like myself who loves Warhammer but still hasn't made the move to actually play it, I found this very insightful.
New Codex = New Strategies. But then again, this video is 3 months old.
Congratulations Dan! I was rooting for you! Waaagh!
The best BatRep I've ever seen on UA-cam, by far
Good to see we're krumpin' the buggers. I've always been rather pleased with vehicles against those nasty roaches. Well done, Dan-The-Man!
Not only disembark but assault as well because the battlewagons are open-topped.
we won dis for da boyz!!!!
im sorry hahaha i cant help myself at the end when Dan says " ...because he always pounds me soo hard..." Lol i burst out laughing
You guys talking about using the new codex, keep in mind that they played this game a while ago but it takes a while to edit the vid and then they wait for the right time to release them. i love watching these :) Its weird cuz i was looking at the table you guys are plainy gon like a week ago its amazing :P
Any tips for fighting Tyranids in general? I play Necrons. I hear you used to able to just shoot the synapse creatures. Now what do you do?
Great game, you guys should definitely make more battle reports.
that was a very enjoyable battle report! please do more in a similar style!
I havent seen the tyranid codex in quite a while, but are there any blast weapons you can use? or ordanance(spelling?) weapons? If not, get more hive tyrants in, give em wings and go play fetch.

Odd question; why did you keep the living ammunition rule. I'm unable to find it in the current codex?
mwg!! can you show us how you make the fire effects!!
i have a question, is it worth spending points on a carnifex in a 500pts army? the hive tyrant costs like 200pts and so does the carnifex so i wouldnt afford more than that and a group of gaunts!
You can't immobilize the wagons by putting infantry around it?
That would make it easier to get that armor down right?
@TheOwnChief their isnt any tusked carnifexes in the new codex... tough they are olaying old style!
Wat army list did Dan use cause it looks good
This was an awesome game and I was routing for Orks since turn 1. Honestly I think Matt should have gone close combat with the battle wagons. Learnt great tank stragities for my guardsman and tactics for my tyranids

the music made everything epic at the end

i know these comments are mostly 4 advising but i have a question, is it good 2 spend points on a carnifex in a 500pts army?
I play tyranids but i'm quite new to the game so I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on venomthropes and how many I should get because they are me fav guy and I already have one.
I'm just starting warhammer 40k and want to know if I should get tyranids or orks
I demand some Guardsmen Battle reports!
Also, congratz to the Ork army for the win, was a great battle between two swarm armies. Nids could have rolled better. But oh well huh!
More vids please.
@koolkranny hive guard do you mean?
love those clouds of burning smoke
You could try making more walls and leave the carnifixes behind too shoot then bring everything else forwards and charge the battle-wagons etc.
@greencow12 nice one genius. max sized elite unit, all maxed out with best armour, invuln saves, painboy WITH orderlies AND a special character to lead them. There goes half your points on a single unit.

Deep strike? No that's a space marine tactic requiring a ship in orbit. That last move made by da orks was a rite rippin' WAAAAGH!
Great game I learnt a few stratigies as well
try using mycetic spores with dedicated transport. You can also try using tygons and doing deep strike.
@ahack13 no he didn't use infilitrate, he wanted to give the rest of his army prefered enemy rule
did matt text for synapse after all his warriors died?
I really enjoyed this battle!
i thought hed run out of da boyz until he unloaded them out of the battle wagons!
Try changing some Fex points for one or more Tyrannofexes, they have really long range and a very deadly anti-tank weapon.
awsome vid I'm just trying to decide weather I should be the Tyranids or the Orks. Can you tell me wich one I should be. thx :D
I liked all the comments about how Orks suck while you guys were primarily shooting, then they do what they're actually good at, combat, and win.
@ahhhh01 it's called something like how to make smoke effects
I might be a little late to say this on here but I was playing a match in a makeshift tournament with my friends (6 friends) and In the finals as the Imperial guard almost all was lost but because of cover I only lost half my guys (5 guys left) against 7 Orcs (specific units not remembered) but in a last ditch charge against the Orcs luck was on my side 3 guys dead but 7 of his. Dan: the 2 battlewagons helped a lot
lol he always pouneded me so hard! hehehehe 8:15
Very enjoyable watch.
@KOAHUNT3R Sorry I ment his fexes should've gone up close to the battle wagons since fexes usually have a bowl of Tyramills' Honey Nut Tankos for Breakfeast

from what i hear, carnifexes were a beast in last edition, but crap in this edition, plz confirm
This match was cool. Very nice bat rep
@TenaciousD872 really!! whats the vid called?? will be interesting!!
Dan include Old Zogwort in your army and use his Zogwort's Curse. also consider using Big Gunz(Kannons) instead of Flashgitz
The Green Tide moves on, WAAAGH!
@lolcammy7 2 boxes of Killa kans will give you 6 walkers which can take out most things easily. Also get a Big Mek to help keep them going. A trukk or two could also help keep your boyz mobile. Hope I helped
MATT, get some tusked carnifexes!! they can flip over a vehicle in a charge!!
@IPIay this was the previous nid dex if u hadn't noticed
i'm surprised there's no Trygon. I'm only starting nids and I already have my Trygon made (but not painted)
@TheMinecraftgod123 i don't think that's hp music
lol when the boyz inside the truck killed the big insect it fell apart from the excitement.
@ahhhh01 they already did a vid about how to make them
Matt: I see the problem with your army. You aren't playing Orks or Eldar.
@Dravenguild This vid was made before the codex was out. This channel gets the vids 3 months after the MWG site.
The trukk's careen can be evil sometimes. One time I destroyed the trukk and it careened and landed right in front of my eldar war walkers, and the unit that was in the trukk just murdered my walkers
you could have put more motars then some genestealers on the side to defend then barrage with several warriors with termaguants and some reveners
Should've included a zoanthrope, or atleast a biovore to get some nice arty shots.
try tyrant guard for anti tank. 2 str 8 shots that do not require los
Good camera work
@NicolasBeltrame I second the More Guard Battle Report Motion!
Fantastic game!!!
@anubis418 yeah same here. i've tried mine a few times and it rocks
They had zoanathropes, although they weren't half as effective in the old codex. Huh, probably about the only unit the new codex did improve upon...
nooooo nom nom nom T.T was an excellent game tho btw guys, oh yer an can u make a battle report using the new tyranid rules? i wanna see them in action
Did the stormboyz ever show up?
Hey dan this is the best combo 10 nobs with painboy with grot orderly. All nobs have cyborg body and evey armer with thruka its the best.
@Zergmaster767 ya thats true that would be good.
