Sweet! Especially the ending/workflow section. May want to point out to Cakewalk newbie's when you talk about cursor "things" to check what mode they're in - you're in the "smart" mode and if they're in something else, well, it can be uber confusing (that really confused me when I was starting out). Also, maybe throw in that you can click the grid up top to turn on/off snap function instead of just keyboard commands. And one last visual piece where the auto crossfeed icon will change to orange when it's on or one can just click that icon to turn it on. This is a GREAT video. Thanks so much for taking the time to put it together. We are well when Mike is well and instructing...
Amazingly again an area I think I really really know and then you go and show me something I didn't know. I love the reinforcement that I do most of the stuff right you mention - like only 3 or 4 takes all done at the same time. The one thing you didn't mention - is all the practice done prior to hitting the record button. Sincerely, Thanks for ALL you do Mike and your dedication to this DAW :D PS. Subs less 700 and counting :D 🎈 😁
Hi Mike, This is a very useful and nicely done complementary video related to the vocal comping one. You make our leasure life easier. That's evolution for you man. Thanks again.
Making new segments is easy as dragging from left to right on the bottom half of one of the takes, as shown in the video. Getting rid of previously created segments, however, seems impossible. Is there a way to "reset" the comp, removing all the segments? [EDIT] I "accidentally" succeeded, by selecting all the tracks, then holding CTRL while left clicking inside one of the takes. This action removed all the segments and crossfades, restoring the takes to their original state. I have no idea how or why that worked (I'm taking my very first baby steps in Cakewalk). Maybe this comment might help someone else struggling with the same issue. Anyway, thank you Mike for the great video. You're helping to flatten the learning curve a bit. :)
I always comp vocals but I've never used it on guitar. Maybe it's because I'm usually using distorted guitar, but I find that the stretch tools work really well to correct any timing issues.
Thanks for that. I find that I am a bit lazy though, If all I have is one small bit out of time, I just cut it, line it up and set the fades. I will definitely try and remember those short cuts for vocals though,
Hi Mike, would you do a demo on how to do stereo panning in the next video? And when is actually we can use stereo panning? What are the situation and instruments that suitable to be used for stereo panning?
Love ur content. You are teaching me how to use this DAW vid by vid. Question. Do these tips apply to high gain guitar tracks? I play metal and am having trouble getting my guitar tracks to sound right. First track will sound more up front and present, my second track almost sounds muffled or less present. Yet the slider for the volume is equal to that of the first track. Fyi im using an sm57 on a 2x12 cabinet mic’d to the same location for both tracks. Up against the mesh pointed at the right corner of the speaker cone
I just got a DiMarzio Black Angel pickup. When I play my guitar I don't hear it going through Cakewalk. I can record and hear it in the playback. Also, my Focusrite isn't picking it up because the gain isn't flashing at all. I can turn the gain all the way up and nothing happens. In Cakewalk, I setup an audio track, should I use something else?
At 10:41 I tried holding control and dragging with mouse to adjust the gain but it didnt work it mad a copy of it instead , can anyone explain how will it work or what i am doing wrong?
I keep getting Audio engine dropouts when i try to playback my recordings and it says code 9. I already increased my playback up to 300 ms but it still does the same thing. Does anyone out there know how to help me out? Please and thank you
Here is an option: If you right click the main clip in the track you will see an option on the pop-u; menu called "Flatten Comp" which will combine all the lanes into a single lane at the top of the comp lanes which will be labelled "Comp" and will automatically be locked. You can then delete the muted lanes below.
Just watched this video, and it seems very time consuming. Can't you just do a drop in on the sections your not happy with, with one take, or is the transition result not as good as comping. Cheers.
@@CreativeSauce Good Morning. Yes, it did. But it is not called comping directly, it is integrated into the recording function. However, recording is much more complicated than in Cakewalk. (Sorry for bad english grammar...Translateted with DeepL :)

Great tips thank you!! PINNED :)
Oh man, I’ve been splitting tracks and dragging clips around like a chump! This changes everything. Thank you.
I hope it helps your workflow!
@TheZombieEconomists, me, too! This video changes EVERYTHING for me! Thanks, Mike!!!
I feel like I found a cheat code lol
OMG! This is fantastic. And I am a Cakewalk user since the 90's LOL! I had NO IDEA comping was available like this. THANK YOU, MIKE!!!
Excellent! You're a natural tutor. Really useful. Thank you.
Superb. Another mistery gone! Thanks a lot Mike.
Thanks Mike. Your videos are pure gold. No matter how well versed I may be in the subject covered, I learn something.
Thank you Neil :)
this
Mike, this video has changed my life. I have been using Cakewalk since the Sonar days and had no idea this kind of functionality was baked in.
Awesome!!!
I am brand new to Cakewalk and to music production, this is fantastic information. Thank you so much. I am addicted to your channel
Yes! I do find it fun! Just love it!
Brilliant! I've learned more from your 16 minute video than I have in the 16 months I've been tinkering w/ home recording.
Great video Mike!
Thanks man :)
@@CreativeSauce I share your videos with my students who have Cakewalk. BTW, here's my new tune in Cakewalk ua-cam.com/video/3fhD-yP7zcU/v-deo.html
I always comp my solos and just jam over and over then pic the parts I like. Save time on writing a solo
In this video you showed the brilliance of Cakewalk, indeed. ThxAloT
Thank you Mike. Just goes to show you don't know what you don't know. And I did not know how to use Comping
Oh My God! It's pretty Easy! Thank You! You're the best teacher of Cakewalk!😸😁👏👏👏✌️🎉😄
Brilliant tutorial, thank you so much!
Oh my Mike, what a great vid. Thank you so much. Stay well.👍🏻
My pleasure, thank you:)
Thanks Mike!!! I will have to watch this one again and again. I needed this one badly!

So true Doug. The practice makes the world of difference.
" all the practice done prior to hitting the record button." me too a lot.
This video exactly came out when I needed it!!
I love it when that happens!
And I thought I knew comping. 😳I learned a lot of new tricks today. Thanks for the key shortcuts!
Ooo, they make it awesome :)
Excellent as always Mike
Thank you!
Oh these draggable cross overs was new to me, thanks a bunch!
:)
Hi mike,
Nice video.
That was verry helpfull.
Thanks.
Cheers Roy :)
Thanks Mike you legend! So useful
Thanks as always mate!!
Thank you.
My pleasure.

I found this video very usefull. thanks Mike.
Great video! Congratulations.
Thanx Mike, again.. hmmm makes me wanne think if I should do my acoustics over again.. 🤔
Picked up guitar this January and definitely will need to be doing some of this thanks for the tip Mike
great lesson, thank you!
Excellent.
I always made all the mistakes you describe...
Thanks a lot...👍
Wow! SO helpful! Thank you so much for making this video (and all the others)!
This video is exactly what I needed, thank you!
Awesome video! Those comps definitely come in handy.
Hi Mike, Great video as usual. Maybe include the flatten comp option just to complete the process.
Ah yes!
Good timing! I am in the proess of recording electric guitar and was struggling with various takes.
Going to try this on a little guitar solo on a new song I'm working on. Thanks.
A great use of it!

Yeah, I reckon I may do a video about that!

Very nice

I didn't know there were takes!!!! I've been recording like a chump
3 Takes is a good number...unless you're recording Dave Brubeck...then the best one is always Take 5 ;)
How do I record an acoustic guitar in Cakewalk without using a guitar pickup but a Piezo Pickup.
Mike I have learn so much from you.
Not that I need to do it, but is there a way to use audio tracks that were not recorded using comp?

Thanks for the info... Can we apply effects on pre recorded acoustic guitar mp3 in cakewalk to make it sound better
Hello friend!
Hey MC!
Question: How do you delete a crossfade in the take lanes? I have too many crossfades and want to delete one.
As a followup you may show recording the guitar without a click and creating a tempomap with Melodyne? ;-)
I cannot edit the clip gain by ctrl+drag. I just get a copy of the selection. 😭
I keep getting Audio engine dropouts when i try to playback my recordings and it says code 9. I already increased my playback up to 300 ms but it still does the same thing. Does anyone out there know how to help me out? Please and thank you
But what do we do with all the other tracks? Do we delete what we don't need???
Here is an option: If you right click the main clip in the track you will see an option on the pop-u; menu called "Flatten Comp" which will combine all the lanes into a single lane at the top of the comp lanes which will be labelled "Comp" and will automatically be locked. You can then delete the muted lanes below.
Can I do the same with track folder e.g. for editing drum recordings?
... 👍👍 !!
Just watched this video, and it seems very time consuming. Can't you just do a drop in on the sections your not happy with, with one take, or is the transition result not as good as comping. Cheers.
For an FL user like me, the workflow in Cakewalk is absolutely terrible. 🙃
But then again, FL Studio doesn't have ANY comping features!
