Plus, his ability to "talk to fish" is much more than that. When he faced a White Martian Aquaman used his telepathy to put the White Martian into a coma without throwing a punch.

Honestly, I think Aquaman wouldn't look so goofy if he didn't have such a brightly colored suit and his physique didn't feel so standard despite being a king. In fact, that's something the DCAU and the 90's comics did brilliantly, stripping off Arthur's cheesy outfit and giving him a badass viking hair-style and hooked hand.
Actually Aquaman in the Justice League Animated Series is pretty badass, he still wears the bright green pants but he is always shirtless so its not as terrible looking. And he also gets a hook hand in the episode that he is introduced and the way he gets it is just downright badass. After being trapped above an underwater volcano by Orm, Aquaman and his son are left for dead. After managing to break one of his shackles he is unable to break the second one so he takes the symbol of Atlantis that he wears on his belt off and uses it to cut off his own hand which allows him to escape and resuce his son.
not really becuse his magic is pretty much just hydrokenesis (controlling water). The trident could probably be a solid weapon against him tho as it’s magical in nature as well, would still need to be a fight in water tho or else superman can just speed blitz him.

Aquaman is the only superhero I've ever seen hack off his own arm with a belt buckle because it was the only way to save his son. It's amazing he can walk around with balls that big.

And before you go there, we can create man made things that can survive decades in outer space but have invented anything that can survive the bottom of the ocean. And the sun's atmosphere is made of the lightest elements in the universe so it doesn't create much surface pressure.

Blue Beetle in comics/Green Lantern in the Injustice animated can make a force field capable of tanking a nuke from a side, since 80% of the initial power of nuke’s explosion travels elsewhere. Unlike nuclear explosion, Heat vision and Omega beams are essentially that but concentrated version of it. The target HAS to endure entirety of that energy intake, with little energy losses, and often continuously (and not in 0.0….1 second, like the nuclear explosion).

If I was a comic writer I think a good way to explain it would be that Atlanteans used magic to alter their physiology in order for them to be better suited for life below the depths. Meaning that above water they may be considered superhuman in terms of strength and durability, but hundreds of leagues beneath the surface with the immense pressure of the ocean weighing on top of them they physical abilities are comparable to the average human.
Since the TV show SuperFriends, Aquaman's been disrespected. Flash Point story arc helped flip that perspective IMO. Aquaman controls most of the damn planet, he's him.

Aquaman is a fuckin badass and he needs to be getting more respect I will gladly die on this hill. Don’t get me wrong he’s not one shotting the S tier characters or anything but he’s holding his own against them. After reading his rebirth run he’s solidly one of my favourite characters
The fact that he can go toe to toe 2 of the most powerful beings on Planet earth says a lot. He’s more skilled in combat and is willing to kill and he knows who to kill and who not to kill. He may not have speed like Superman but he can evade him which is enough and he knocked Superman on his ass and that makes sense because he fought Hercules who is fucking Hulk sized. And gives Shazam his limitless strength comparable to Superman himself. He even killed Poseidon in both main and injustice continuities.
Aquaman is still paying the price of his early portrayal in Hanna & Barbera’s “Superfriends” where he was greatly nerfed and basically only had “superswimming” (as ridiculous as it sounds) and “marine telepathy”. For years, he simply was the “guy who talked to fish”. While Batman had had ridiculous porteayals too, but also some that paid justice to his really dark persona, Aquaman was never seen again in other media until Smallville and later Momoa’s impersonation.
I always thought that any aquatic-based hero must be pretty tanky considering most of them live in Atlantis or some other civilization centered at the bottom of the ocean. To withstand that amount of pressure unscathed is crazy

Think about it: he’s able to resist the depths of the ocean’s density on his body, so he’s sure as hell pretty fucking durable against bullets and other projectiles launched at him fr whatever source. Not to mention that with the water pressure on him he’s pretty fast in water, and try to imagine how heavy the bodies of water are when you’re plunged thousands of feet deep in a heart of the ocean, which would slow a man down. Remember he doesn’t have fins like he fish constituents, therefore the weight and currents of the deep must have a negative impact on his person every time he swims. And yet he’s able to navigate the waters with little effort to the outside eye looking on. Now imagine said Arthur Curry on dry land, with the restrictions of millions of gallons of water weighing on his every stroke, which means he should be at least Wonder Woman levels of fast on dry land, if not Superman’s.*
So the thing about him being able to tangle with Superman and kill kryptonians is extremely misleading. He isnt as strong, fast or durable nor is he close. His trident is imbued with magic and is one of few weapons that can actually hurt them is why. Hes just strong enough to make use of it. But the rest is actually true, man gets shafted a lot for no reason. Hes definitely someone who earned being "king of the seas" by skill, strength and speed. Arthur is a tough SOB.

Aquaman has just got an upgrade power-wise over the last 10 years. He still can't do nothing against the top strong people in the DC Universe. The fact that he can go toe to toe 2 of the most powerful beings on Planet earth says a lot. He’s more skilled in combat and is willing to kill and he knows who to kill and who not to kill. He may not have speed like Superman but he can evade him which is enough and he knocked Superman on his ass and that makes sense because he fought Hercules who is fucking Hulk sized. And gives Shazam his limitless strength comparable to Superman himself. He even killed Poseidon in both main and injustice continuities.
I know people are gushing over aquaman… but the true hero is his trident that penetrates through literally everything.
You forgot to mention he can talk to fish...

Aquaman is still paying the price of his early portrayal in Hanna & Barbera’s “Superfriends” where he was greatly nerfed and basically only had “superswimming” (as ridiculous as it sounds) and “marine telepathy”. For years, he simply was the “guy who talked to fish”. While Batman had had ridiculous porteayals too, but also some that paid justice to his really dark persona, Aquaman was never seen again in other media until Smallville and later Momoa’s impersonation.
I always thought that any aquatic-based hero must be pretty tanky considering most of them live in Atlantis or some other civilization centered at the bottom of the ocean. To withstand that amount of pressure unscathed is crazy
Aquaman may not be as strong as Superman,but he CAN hang out on the ocean floor with thousands of pounds of pressure all over his body!

1.) He's useful in water locations or damp locations
2.) He's useless that is not water or dry locations

You can’t really tank the Omega Beams. They can do whatever Darkseid wants, including disintegration and flat out erasing you from existence.

And yet he’s able to navigate the waters with little effort to the outside eye looking on. Now imagine said Arthur Curry on dry land, with the restrictions of millions of gallons of water weighing on his every stroke, which means he should be at least Wonder Woman levels of fast on dry land, if not Superman’s.*

Makes sense considering all the pressure under the water is probably equal if not greater than the gravity on krypton
So the thing about him being able to tangle with Superman and kill kryptonians is extremely misleading. He isnt as strong, fast or durable nor is he close. His trident is imbued with magic and is one of few weapons that can actually hurt them is why. Hes just strong enough to make use of it.
But the rest is actually true, man gets shafted a lot for no reason. Hes definitely someone who earned being "king of the seas" by skill, strength and speed. Arthur is a tough SOB.
When you really think about it, the fact that he can lift an entire sub upwards out of the water both against gravity and the high pressures of the deep, he's far stronger than we actually think!
Aquaman has just got an upgrade power-wise over the last 10 years. He still can't do nothing against the top strong people in the DC Universe. Look at all the Justice League cartoons he wasn't lifting all that stuff they're talkin about. Even in the animation movies until they upgraded him out of nowhere. They made him more like name or who's always been well stronger than him. Also has the ability to fly and if we're going to go with current changes can control water. Aquaman has always been more popular because of cartoons. He was never a powerful character in the Justice League until they made him more like Namor. I mean Aquaman has never been against the surface world throughout most of its history. Until they changed him into Namor. If you don't believe me they even started calling them surface dwellers. Aquaman is talking like he was born underwater. The atlanteans were always friendly in the DC Universe. Namor is what Aquaman is trying to be against the surface World by any means if you threaten Atlantis. Namor would wipe the floor with Aquaman. Plus Namor lived longer. He was also the first superhero to fly before Superman.
When your feats include darkseid you're set
Man they need to flush out Atlantis and hir rogue gallery because having him on the surface should only be done for special occasions
