- In this weeks video I continue my solo adventure on my narrowboat up the Macclesfield canal heading to the Peak Forest. I stop at Marple services for water after walking into town to get some much needed supplies. I get grounded a few times before mooring up in the rain on the beautiful Peak Forest Canal.

I know what you meen about finding a supermarket after having to use small shops for ages, it reminds me of a time I was on the Dutch canals I moored about 3 miles outside a big town and took my bike to explore, I saw a Lidl and was so delighted so got a trolley and went and did a big shop getting all the great things I had missed. I filled 4 shopping bags and came outside only to remember I was on my bike, what a struggle I had balancing all my shopping on the bike and I had to push it the 3 miles back, I was knackered when I got back to the boat. It's not all Gin and Tonic on the aft deck.😃

See I watch your blog and in seconds I’m smiling snd chuckling to myself. I honestly don’t see the dull weather as being a disadvantage. England is consistently beautiful no matter the weather. I still would be happy to trade Aus for the boat life. Just love what I see. Maybe it’s the Anglo Saxon in me. Something magical about That Mud Island. It’s just different snd alluring. Yay! It’s been a week, you crack me up. My bum would be having trouble getting in those spots too but I float quite well lolol that is a big shaft! Is that the one you found? Nice bit of wood 😂😂😂 I’m still thinking about a boat but I think I need to start with a 30ft or something. I kinda like the Beavers coz you can hook it up to your car and go on different canals and stuff not sure atm. Thanks for all your insights and information I truly appreciate it all.
Those Beavers are awesome … and a shallow draft. David from cruising the cut did a video on them 😄 we have low water levels up here at the moment hence the pumps and restrictions on the locks so a few boats getting grounded but they don’t put it all over UA-cam 😂😂😂

I quite fancy cruising the French Canals too. Have you ever thought of venturing across the Channel or to Ireland?

I’ll try to show mooring up future video. However once I’m in, it doesn’t take long to be honest … it’s just the Peak is currently suffering low water levels hence the pumps and restricted use of Bosley and Marple locks so it always makes things a bit harder being so shallow 😂🏴☠️

That elsam out of order happens quite often. That is a bit concerning. You ever considered composting and what about pump-out,can you only Emory them at marinas 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I have no space to compost unfortunately and pump outs are expensive and they are often broken … when we were frozen in for 3 weeks a couple of years ago I was able to walk my cassette to the nearest elsan but the boats with pump outs were stranded 😂😂
Glad you show the 'not so nice' bits of narrowboating. Some don't and it can give the viewers a rose tinted view! And especially as some folk will be think of living on a narrowboat. We don't live on our boat but spend the spring /summer, as well as another time of the year that takes our fancy. We also had problems getting in up there and our bum stuck out too! Love the videos BTW.

Thanks Angela, there have been a few boats grounding recently as the water levels are low, hence the pumps and why they have shut the locks so many days a week… but I like to show it all as it’s the joys of boating 😂😂🏴☠️

And yes I agree corner shops won't be helpful in providing you with a nutritional balanced diet so it's important to be thinking I guess what you eat.

I and my friend won £300 In the pub quiz and we celebrated a little bit too much with the Vodka and Beer chasers, I'm just glad I can't be arrested for driving my mobility scooter whilst being over the limit. Surprised your so low in the water after emptying your cassette. Must have taken on too many supplies. Shopping trolley might benifit from some go faster stripes . Must be time to slice the main brace keep your lips moist.😂
My sexy shopping trolley has glow in the dark stripes I’ll have you know 😂😂 The water levels up here are very low up here at the moment, that’s why they have shut Bosley and Marple locks… I think lots of boaters get grounded but they don’t show it like me 😂😂

Yes it’s very low at the moment but they pumping in water and shut Bosley and Marple flights a few days a week to conserve water but it’s very beautiful … I’m loving it up here 😄🏴☠️

Onto The Peak Forest - sorry you got stuck but the place you eventually managed to moor up, looked beautiful with lovely views.

I noticed one of your new pirate crew came from NB "Boondoogle". This is a beer made by Ringwood Brewery in The New Forest in Hampshire. I lived in Ringwood from 1989 to 2005 and used to drink Boondoogle a lot. Small world!

What's the minimum distance you have to move to reset the clock.

Got to love the old, canal bridges, love'em, love'em love'em . As i come from the flatlands of the Norfolk Broads, i do not know much about the north west of england and the area you come from, so i'm getting a geography and Rum lesson all in one . Ohhh Arrrr

You always look spiffy trolley or not. My 4 year old daughter, my niece and I took a 2 hour drive south to the Alaska Range and did a tundra hike. Sunny day, just enough breeze to cool us. No mosquitoes 🥳 very steep walk. Lots of tundra flowers. Now send us some of your rain. It’s be at least 3 weeks with no rain though it would be nice to keep the Crab Apple blossoms on the tree for couple more days.

Flat bottomed but suffering from very low water up here hence the pumps and lock restrictions 😂 lots of boats grounding but they not putting all over UA-cam 😂 I couldn’t rock it as it was on stones and boulders 😩 it couldn’t move 😂😂

We have just completed the Peak Forest on our NB which is also deep drafted and tried 3 times in the same spot and gave it up. Travelled to the 2nd swing bride before moorin up
I love seeing the 'inclement' weather and real life on the cut. And the video ends where you are tucked up in the cabin with the fire toasting you is so cozy.

About 2ft 8 I think it … I have a big pro due to the mid engine …. The peak at the moment has low water levels hence the pumps and closure of Bosley and Marple flights … lots of boats getting grounded but they don’t video it and put it on UA-cam 😂😂😂

Would it be an idea to start a "Guerrilla gardening" movement amongst your fellow narrow boaters? You could plant small/tiny (a couple of square feet) plots along the canals, back off the tow paths, start a Facebook page giving locations to keep track of what/where. Maybe coordinate good locations for sun/shade loving plants and who planted what. As folks pass by, they could plant/weed/care/harvest the plants and give updates on various plots. Also give folks another activity while boating and offer up a bit food every now and then. Just a thought!
There are lots of veggies and herbs grown all along the towpaths on the Rochdale canal in Todmorden … Google incredible edible Todmorden … it was fab seeing it a few years ago … the problem is however that The canal and river trust pay contractors now and they come and chop everything down without a care in the world … for it to work it needs to be like Todmorden where the local councils are onboard and maintenance takes place… everything has gone Health and Safety mad now 😞
@@TheNarrowboatPirate Well I was thinking more in the wooded areas where you could get back off of the tow path, beyond where they normally "tend" to the tow path. Of coarse you couldn't make a cultivated plot, you'd just have to make it like one or two plants and not really disturb the soil, just make it "look" like it just came up on it's own. A potato here and there, a clump of onions two trees over,,,,,

@@TheNarrowboatPirate Yep you will find places - I have seen boats moored up near the road bridge which you'll see going over you once in Romiley. I don't know about the depth though.... I will ask my friend who lives on the canal on a boat - (you passed him a week or so ago) - he moored in Romiley about 12 months ago. Great channel you run here. Cheers!

Ahoy, we are just experiencing very low water levels on the Peak at the moment hence the restricted use of Marple and Bosley locks and all the pumps working … lots of people get grounded it’s just i show it and plastered on UA-cam 😂😂 don’t worry about it, once grounded you just get the kettle on and wait for another boat to pull you off 😂😂
Oh dear l know the feeling so well of not being able to get the backend in my boat has a 27" draft it's a real Bugger. Still you found a better spot ☺️

You certainly seem to love the Macc, but will you be coming down my neck of the woods on the Staffs and Worcs any time soon?. I often walk my dog along the towpath down to the Botterham staircase, or up to the Bratch- not-really-a-staircase!.

@@TheNarrowboatPirate Hi Heidi, Although the S&W goes through some lovely countryside, once you get to Stourport you've only got two options, go onto the Severn (not easy!) or just turn round and go back the way you've just come.

Heidi, you are the only Canal Vlogger I watch every week now. When I used to go on the Norfolk broads with my parents, when we used to get stuck on the mud, we would rock the boat from side to side, which often set us free.
Thanks for watching, I feel honoured hahaa 😃🏴☠️ there are lots of problems on the Peak at the moment with water levels unfortunately hence the water pumping in and them shutting both Marple and Bosley locks a few days each week … I was stuck on rocks not mud 😞 there are lots of boats getting grounded at the moment …. it’s just I show it all 😂😂

Your boat likely had a shallow vee shaped bottom but narrowboats have a flat bottom so it probably would not work as well.

Hi Heidi. Most prepared foods like Y foods contain loads of sugar and salt to add flavor. I have no experience with Y but would be surprised if it did not contain one or both. Maybe not a problem for you, but maybe a problems for diabetics and those with kidney stones.
Have a look at the Y foods website … it’s fabulous stuff 😄🏴☠️
