Richard scores his 56th H/H match, and once again he's closing in on Bert Convy... (H/H trivia: as he reveals his answer, Richard mentions Carolyn Jones who incidentally scored a H/H match in the early days of MG '73!) Here's the updated leader board showing the 9 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 54.2% (13 wins in 24 attempts). Fannie - 46.2% (6 wins in 13 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Richard - 32.9% (56 wins in 170 attempts). Brett - 30.8% (8 wins in 26 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 361, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
It's nice that Richard mentioned Carolyn Jones since she sat next to him in chair #4 for a week in 1973 (episodes 26-30). That was her only week on the show, as far as I can recall.
This show is a testament to 'Keep it natural'. It wasn't until the girl came out with the kleenexes that I remembered there is an entire crew working this show. They all made it look so easy. Kudos!

I've noticed that Gene had a habit of calling the contestants "civilians". I can't help but wonder if he ever said that by mistake to a US Service member or police officer.
@@LynxSouth Anybody might refer to someone else who's not in his field that way. Teachers refer to parents like that, accountants to clients, actors to their audiences, postal carriers to residents, etc etc...
Gary Burghoff, no matter how hard he tries is just not that funny 'in person.' And I dunno how Brett ever did not get a beating for being so catty. Lol
Nor was he great at matching the contestants, and on more than a few occasions if he was the last one picked for a SuperMatch suggestion he wouldn’t even Try to throw out an answer
nooh you got it backwards, it's in the other videos before this one that Gene always told the audience not do so, as you can see in this video he just didn't cared anymore or they changed the policy.
The Match game was favoring men. Most of the questions for men were super easy. But for women was very hard. That is why most winners were men especially white men or the service men. Wasn't fair.
Your comment is unfair, particularly subjecting the sheer stupidity of the comment to unsuspecting viewers. Do you understand culture? The differences in societal norms in 1974 vs 2021?! Making a baseless claim is wasting the oxygen for those of us who possess thoughts deeper than a teaspoon of water....
Is this your first time watching the program? There are two questions each round. The challenger gets to choose. It's 50 /50 chance what the question will be like. They try to make them a similar degree of difficulty. Even an easy question can get poor results based on the contestants bad answer. There doesn't seem to be any bias based on the gender of the contestant.
15:27 😂😂 Gene liked that. Avery is such a good guest.

Richard Dawson. Thank You Richard. And Patti Deutsch. Ho Ho Ho. As we play the star-studded big money Match Game 74!!!
Avery was an interesting and funny man!
Yes I completely agree, along with my other favorite semi regular Patti Deutsche
Really Funny Stars/Cast !!!
... damn! ... another week of Gary Burghoff
Ok and your point is what
The look on Gene's face when Carol won the $5000 and kissed him... LOL
⭐️So great. Definitely ⭐️
It's a shame Reed Montgomery from Birmingham, Ala. and Fannie Flagg weren't on the same week.
It seems like "loincloth" is almost always a good answer for any Tarzan question.
The first of many episodes with Avery!
Rest in Peace Miss Phyllis Newman
Great episode 👍
DAMN, the women were so much prettier in those days!

I'm currently on episode 1036. I haven't seen her again yet.
Perfect answer for the Tarzan one, a Jaguar.

I always liked Avery on this show
I think ol' Reid smoked his lunch!
Both Phyllis and Gary are still with us from this panel. Also, too bad this is before they started using the stripper music. LOL

I don't understand why some people do this. The names are all under the video.
Ever wonder what became of the contestants? I found Reed on FB! He's owned a Guide Service for 40 years! facebook.com/reed.montgomery.58

15:06 I LEFT
Avery is hilarious
Avery = Gold.
Gary = fool's gold.
Very 👍 it's absolutely right
Give Gary a break. Good grief! What meanness!
You mean Brett = fool's gold
Brett was the best and she was annoying but she kept everyone awake. She was great!
She had her place there that's for sure.
@ 15:56 Looking down her blouse: "You know, he's right!"
'Wig' was the obvious answer to the Brett item
I would have said, " Innocence."
I've noticed that Gene had a habit of calling the contestants "civilians".

Over the years I've heard quite a few entertainers et al. refer to people not in show biz that way. I'm pretty sure it's even a line in some movies.

i left my heart in san fransisco is a john lee hooker song..an old blues tune..
John Lee Hooker never sang that song
He sang “Frisco Blues” which included a line about leaving his heart in San Francisco.
Hmm, it's all dead people on the panel this week, but for Gary Burghoff.
No sir, he IS dead he just doesn't know it
Actually most of the weeks shows the whole panel is dead
Why the buzzkill? It was 50 years ago, it goes without saying.
Brett is annoying
Rest in peace Jimmy Olsen
Johnny
Also Clark Kent

They chose A or B for their questions the show didn't know which one the man or women was going to pick.
