I think this video really helped and I am taking the ACT TOMORROW!! :O My tip: Bubble the same letter if you have to guess at the end. I guessed all A's on my first test. Do not guess C, it's too common and the test writers know that. Do not bubble random letters, you have a better chance of getting more right if you guess the same letter.
I’m currently preparing to take an ACT in a week. I’m not super book smart and I’m just trying to gather as many tips as I can I plan to do some pre test but I do think this was valuable information, thanks!
4:44 I've never loved bubbling at the end, I personally like bubbling for every question since I'm a slow enough test taker as it is. If I waited until the end to bubble everything in, I'd be frantically doing it and I would be more likely to make an error. _-Also bubbling between questions can be slightly calming while still being productive :)-_
just took a practice test; roght now my composite score is 29 but i REALLY want to get at least a 34 😭 I'll (hopefully) be practicing these tips over the next few months, thank you! update: did these tips for about a week and got a 33, not too shabby!
Here is my ACT story. I've taken ACT 4x and about to take it a fifth. First time, I took it in my junior year and got a 19. Second time in my junior year, I got a 20. Third time in my junior year, I got a 22, but notably, I got my reading and English up by 5-6 pts to 25 and 26 respectively. Problem is my math and science remained both at 19 for the past three tests. The last test I took though, I got a 23. English went down by one, reading went down by 4... but my math went up by 3 and science went up by 6!!! If my reading hadn't gone down and my English and reading had at least stayed the same, I would've gotten a 25, which is what I am currently aiming for. I take it in four days and my goal is between a 27-30, a 36 would be lovely, but for me as a person who struggles to take tests, it's most likely not realistic, but hey you never know. One tip Ik is that reading and science test the same skill and they shouldn't be but at max 1 pts apart. I still haven't gotten there but hopefully soon! Wish me luck and I'll be back with my new score soon :)
@@masonbroadhead8742 Well about a week or so before I was supposed to take it, the school I was gonna take it at cancelled the test bc they were doing something else at the school that day and said they could do it the next Saturday, but unfortunately I was gonna be gone that next Saturday, so now I'm taking the one in December, and it's probably be the last one I'll take before I graduate
I really appreciate this! Currently in highschool trying to get into an academy that requires a 23 in math, and I really dislike studying. These tips are really helpful!
This video was fantastic. I especially found the per section information most helpful! I’m taking the ACT in a week and I’m definitely going to use the linked ACT tests. I also enjoyed your humor and editing style. Thank you very much for making this video!
I definitely feel like I should have studied more, it's the night before the test and I was kinda anxious about it so I was fixing to cram but then you said your tip about that so I'm just gonna look over my notes from our ACT boot camp instead of drilling flashcards lol
I personally don’t bubble at the end because i am more likely to make a mistake but I don’t painstakingly bubble each, I’ll finish a page and put slashes in each answer and then at the end I’ll actually put in the bubble that way if I decide that one of the answers would be better later, erasing is easier
watching this the night before, but this is all very solid advice. i dont know most of the math on the test, but this made me feel better about my lack of knowledge. GOOD LUCK TO ALL FUTURE TEST TAKERS!!!!
Superb advice, Rishab, especially the comment about using real tests and getting sleep (I might add -- wake up a bit early on the day of the test; it takes time to get your brain into gear).
@@RishabJain Son took his second ACT a week ago -- he had already gotten a 36 on the math section, hopefully he brings the other scores up slightly as well.
Thanks for the tips! It’s test day so I’ll share my ACT history! First ACT I took as a sophomore and got a 27. Then, I took tutoring for the math portion, retook the test, and got a 29 that June. In July, I tried again and got a 30. I’m hoping for a 34, so I tried two more times during summer after Junior year and during my Senior year. Both times, I got a 31. Hoping for the best! Thanks again.
Thank you for the help! Not aiming for a 36, just a 29 or 25 for tuition purposes, but some of your tips helped a lot. I struggle most on the math and English portion. Let’s see what I get tommorow! And also, I don’t know if this is the case for anyone else, but the sleep all night rule is actually the complete opposite for me. I feel like I get in the right mindset with just 5 or less hours of sleep if I have adrenaline from something like a big test. And my short term works wonders when I’m in the zone, so even tho I shouldn’t, I feel like I get the most done last minute. Don’t follow my example kids lol, I’ve just got adhd.
funny enough i’ve been meaning to get diagnosed for adhd, and i got like 4-5 hours of sleep the night before my act yet i was awake (probably on adrenaline) the whole way through, so maybe this is a linked thing? who knows hahah
Taking mine in 2 days. My overall goal is to get my score to at least 32. Although I've done a lot of studying and practice I don't expect to do great on this one. I'm prepared to completely fail and I'm fine with that. I'm seeing this first one as a trial run for me, through this I will learn how to A. Pace myself, and B. Learn how to prepare better. I plan on taking it as many times as I need to until I meet my goal. That's what's great about this test. You can take it as many times as you would like and then choose what test to show the colleges you're applying to. You just have to opt out of the program that automatically sends the scores to them. Knowing that has caused me to be a lot less nervous, which in turn will hopefully help me during my future ACT's.
Ive personally found that downing a monster and munching down on the peppermints they give you helps a ton, mainly because the caffeine kicks in around the last 2 tests and helps yoy maintain your energy. Also, TAKE ANY ADVANTAGE YOU CAN GET! This isnt a test about "honor and fairness", and if you minor ADHD gives you 30 extra minutes? Definitely steal that. Im a low income child, and i get 3 total free tests per year plus administrative support with stress due to my autism, and i 100% dont require either, but im definitely stealing amy edge i can get.
Although I don't have to take the test this year, this video was *really* helpful! Honestly, the English and (most) of the Math questions are pretty easy, and being an IB student I'm used to data being provided and being asked to analyze it + the ACT seems a little bit more fun compared to the SAT lol. I'd like to add that studying the night before (in most cases) does very little to actually improve how you do on a test, especially for skill-based questions. You don't just develop that skill the day before, at least in my personal experience. Good video!
For the math, get a TI-36X Pro! It comes with lots of functions, including a systems of equations solver. I used it when I took Dual Pre-Cal, and it saved me so many times.
Thanks for these tips man! I have a 23 currently and am taking the test this Sat. Oct. 28, so I am going to use your tips and see how well they work for me. Wish me luck and I'll let you know if my score improved!

I take my ACT tomorrow morning! i’m so nervous, i’ve watched at least 5-10 of these style videos! this is my first time taking a test that can confirm my academic future (that’s not in school)! these were great tips!
A tip I learned is that, if you are going to wait til the end to bubble ur answers, use the last 5-10 mins to bubble in. When they give u a 5 min warning, stop doing the questions and start bubbling and once you finish and have a good amount of time left do a couple more questions and guess the remaining ones. (learned this the hard way)

Hi!! So I had a question relating to around 8:31 in this video. Are you suggesting that we read the whole passage throughly for the writing section and then answer all the questions or do you mean something else? Thanks!
On the pasages, it is better to skim through them for 15-30 seconds on your first read. Then read the questions, then read for understanding on your 2nd read of the pasages

Good for actually cuz i took a practice test and i got a 20 and now my dreams of getting atleast a 33 is now gone
@@ihopeatrainrunsmeover3351 Did you retake it?
Good luck! I’m taking my first practice one tomorrow. Let us know how you do on it Sam!

so glad that it helped! also glad that this video is finally picking up on views!!!

I definitely feel like I should have studied more, it's the night before the test and I was kinda anxious about it so I was fixing to cram but then you said your tip about that so I'm just gonna look over my notes from our ACT boot camp instead of drilling flashcards lol

Glad it was helpful!
just took my June ACT using the reading section trick I got a perfect score, thanks Rishab 🙏
what was the trick?
Yea I got my reading score up 6 pts
I personally don’t bubble at the end because i am more likely to make a mistake but I don’t painstakingly bubble each, I’ll finish a page and put slashes in each answer and then at the end I’ll actually put in the bubble that way if I decide that one of the answers would be better later, erasing is easier
thanks so much bro! I just took the test and got a 34 on it, all my thanks goes to you for these tips!
watching this the night before, but this is all very solid advice. i dont know most of the math on the test, but this made me feel better about my lack of knowledge. GOOD LUCK TO ALL FUTURE TEST TAKERS!!!!
How did you do?
Superb advice, Rishab, especially the comment about using real tests and getting sleep (I might add -- wake up a bit early on the day of the test; it takes time to get your brain into gear).
Absolutely!
I just need a good score
funny enough i’ve been meaning to get diagnosed for adhd, and i got like 4-5 hours of sleep the night before my act yet i was awake (probably on adrenaline) the whole way through, so maybe this is a linked thing? who knows hahah
@@meltx I just took my hopefully a good score I just picked what seemed right
@@akai3974 i took mine this past saturday as well! i did the same too dw, hope it goes well for both of us :P
what did u get??
Knowing that has caused me to be a lot less nervous, which in turn will hopefully help me during my future ACT's.
let me know what you get
How was it
@@niveyahh2206 Not too bad, got a 25. Not as good as what I was hoping for but I now know what to practice. I'll be taking it again in September.
@@Nateflys 25, I'm taking it again in September so hopefully I can get closer to that score goal.
Same man. Have you been studying yet c
For anyone who might still want to use the test guide books, your library might have some for ACTs, SATs, or even APs!
Thank you so much! I’m taking the ACT tomorrow. I’m hoping I can bring up the 21 I got. 😔
