I knew a guy who got a Hayabusa as a first bike. He was an ex-soldier who found comfort from his PTSD in adrenaline. He rode it in jeans and flipflops with no helmet. After just three months of ownership, he did a big build and turbo'd it. He would often say, "With how fast I go, no safety equipment is going to help." He had the bike for five years and when it died, so did he. At 180mph. Into a section of dense pine woods. The road was about 30 feet higher than the woods, so he chopped 100 or so small pines down. Rest in peace rocket cowboy.

my first bike was a Hayabusa. I was 24 years old. My dad actually found the bike. I'd never ridden a dirt bike or anything on 2 wheels, not even a scooter. Plenty of 20 inch BMX bikes, that's it. I learned how to ride on that bike, rode about 40 miles to take my obstacle course test to get my license. Never scratched that bike, put maybe 5k on it. Paid 8500 in 2001 and sold it for 8500 in 04, wanted something smaller so I bought a 04 GSXR1000 mladin edition. Funny, but my friend got a CBR 600 f4i I found that was like new and I loved that bike. My son got me a f4i I had been wanting a few months back. I'm planning to keep it forever
So I went way backwards. My busa was fast, it was stock, but that busa was way more tame than the 1000cc Gixxer I replaced it with. The busa was like a Cadillac. It would cruise at 150mph like nothing and the faster ya went the smoother it felt. My new to me CBR tops out at around 150 and I'd never ride it that fast.
I wouldn't recommend a Hayabusa for anyone for a first bike, but my dad wasn't crazy. He knew I would be ultra cautious with the bike. while I had zero 2 wheel experience, I did have significant experience on a race track in drag racing and oval street stock racing, some late model experience.
I had no problem with the bike. I felt comfortable really quick. The throttle wasn't touchy, even my son's new Ninja Z6 KRT has a touchier throttle and is more nervous to ride. The busa was solid and easy to ride.

I rode a 2001 Hayabusa for 13 years. Put over 40,000 miles on that bike. Kept it all stock and loved every minute. It was great for 2-up riding. Awesome low end torque.

Hayabusa has been the only bike I've ever been really attracted to since the first time I saw one, after years and years of wanting one I just started riding at 40 years old on a GSXR 600 and there is only one more bike I will buy after this one .... may the motorcycle Gods protect me 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Gixxer is a good grounding TBH, my first bike after passing my test aged 49 (here in Scotland) was a K4 GSXR600, rode that for 18 months then got a K5 Busa, honestly the Busa is easier to ride, it's taller geared so much harder to stall and you don't need to shift as much, the weight means you can be harder on the brakes without them locking up (no ABS on a Gen 1), i felt the 600 was straining at the leash all the time, the Busa is happy just to cruise along, i absolutely love it.

I rode a 2005 Hayabusa (bought used with 495 miles on the clock in 2006) and rode it 65,000 miles until I was rear ended at a stop light in NC in 2018 (R.I.P. , Busa). I used it as a sport touring platform. A few ergonomic tweaks were needed. Specifically, I installed both 3/4" GenMar risers and Heli Bars to create a more upright riding posture, and also bagged the stock foot pegs for slash cut aluminum pegs that opened the seat-to-peg distance by almost an inch. I did 800 mile days on that bike on some of my trips. Wonderful motorcycle - Calm, tractable, no surprises. BUT - if you wanted to pass someone, they got passed. Once the tach hit about 7k, you better be holding on because the whole time/space continuum thing was about get weird. I spent very little time in that rev range. You did need a judicious throttle hand in the twisties, but never once in all those miles did I ever break the rear tire loose. I'm 72 now, and this platform would no longer be suitable as a sport tourer for this old carcass due to weight on the wrists that I could tolerate when younger. Current ride is a 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT that's perfect for me at this stage of life.
Serious question, how did you deal with the wind noise? The only problem I see with sport bikes is the low windshield that blasts the air right at your helmet visor. A much lower, or a much higher windshield can solve this problem. I am curious why they don't sell a Goldwing sized windscreen for the Hayabusa, because it would make an excellent highway bike with it's tall gearing.
@@starseeddeluxe It was never an issue. I always wear earplugs when I ride, and the way the windscreen was set up on my 'Busa (Zero Gravity Double Bubble), I got a smooth non-turbulent wind stream, across my helmet. Was there noise? Yes, but the ear plugs took it out of the equation.

Really surprised people thought the Hayabusa was 'ugly'. I have always been captivated by its look, I think it is gorgeous! But each to their own of course. The Hayabusa is a proper bedroom-wall poster machine IMO, more so than say the 1400 ZZR which I also love and is apparently easier to live with.
There is no motorcycle that can compensate for stupidity. I been flying a Busa since 05. I highly recommend it. First bike, last bike, bike to ride while your Harley is in the shop. As an all round do it all bike it's a great choice. I love the bike. I'm 70 years old.
BTW, I bought Pazzo levers. Also been looking at a TTS supercharger.

Thus comment right here is the exact reason I'm determined to buy another BUSA. Gonna buy again in Spring of 2025. I sold my 2021 Honda Goldwing DCT Tour. It was comfortable and reliable but at 49 years old (then it just didn't do it for me. Had an 03 and my next will be 24 leftover or a 2025.
Nice! I learned how to ride of a 2009 ZX 14. That’s been my first bike for several years. I just don’t act stupid on it. That kind of weight and power is normal for me. Anything too much less than that is not normal lol
I think the falcon name is kinda cool, with the backstory of the Honda Blackbird being the fastest bike before Suzuki came out with the 'Busa, and the falcons hunt down and kill blackbirds.

Most people don’t know that the Busa’s headlight casts the shadow of a falcon on the ground. Not sure if the Gen2 and 3’s have it. I have an ‘03 Gen 1 and I discovered this when the power went out in my area while riding home. There it was…a falcon cast by the headlight. Neat detail that I hope they kept.

The Busa is a motorcycle that is accessible to everyone, making it a true bike for the working class. Kudos to Koji Yoshiura and Suzuki for making such a magnificent machine available to the masses.
While I think the busa is cool, I’ve already tried one out in my college days. Did a 1 week swap with my buddy. He borrowed my R1 and I took his busa. Truth be told, it kinda feels clunky taking the corners and curves with that thing. So ultimately after my R1 I just decided to downgrade to a CBR600RR and that pretty much solidified my life as a rider. 🤷♂️
The older I get the more I want one. I ride a z900 and keep telling myself it has enough power as a daily rider that I don’t need the BUSA. Deep down though I think about them with envy.

I have a gen 1 since new. Black and Purple, 86K on it basically stock. runs great, tour and track days (privet). The Art of Corning by Keith Code saved my butt many times. I still ride it today. Sometimes I make squids look silly on their liter bikes or 600's. I will never sell it or buy a new one. every time I ride it, it is worth more to me than what it is actually worth monetarily.
The Gen 2 is the most beautiful bike ever built. Maybe I’m biased but that’s why I bought one. Comfortable and damn fast. Best of all worlds. ❤

Personally, I love them. They're beautiful, iconic. It looks like something out of a sci-fi comic book. I sat on one and personally found it surprisingly very comfortable for a sport bike.
However, I see people doing 80 in first gear with the front tire off the ground(or at least that's what being narrated) and went to go find an ostrich hole to stuff my head in.
I still want one. It would be cool if they could just tame it a bit. Maybe make v-twin version for us chicken-shirts.

I had the 2004 gen1.. several times going the 1400km from Austria to Paris in one go.. 7hrs45mins.. and arriving feeling fresh and in time for lunch 😀
It's an absolutely beautiful machine that just exudes precisely what it delivers..and I find it strange that people call it 'ugly'. Perhaps due to their resentment that they would never have the courage to ride one.

Got a gen2 metallic blue/grey busa in my early 30s and rode it all the way from Singapore to Songkla, Thailand (almost 1000km)...riding along those heavenly Malaysian highways..Oh man, thats the best ride of my life !

Of course I do! Right now I'd be delighted to have anything that qualifies as a motorcycle. I've had nearly 20 motorcycles since 1989. Had a 2016 636 and crashed in April 2021. For over 2 years now nothing. Not even a cage.

I bought my first busa last year. It's a 2007 and was like a beat shelter dog when I got it. The exhaust had been chopped off to dump pipes. The plastics have an access hole cut to get to the coolant tank. The speedo is partially melted because the windscreen acted like a magnifying glass. Front forks are starting seep a little. The clutch and brake lever have both been broken to about half their length. I keep a box of screws to replace them as they fall out.
After tossing some new pipes on though, it's one of my favorite bikes to date. Sure you have to throw it down into a corner and man-handle it. The brakes are abysmal and feel like you're stopping an up armored humvee that was doing 70mph. Yes, everyone wants to race you everywhere - and should you partake, you're not going to beat a modern liter bike. However, it is extremely comfortable and even with 50k on the clock has been bulletproof. This will be the last year for my 'busa, the chassis is just too far past it's prime and it's time for something new(er). The motor is likely going to be shoe-horned into my Yamaha Raptor 660 for funsies.
I've ridden a few different brand bikes over my 73 years, but have only owned three: 1971 BMW R75/5, 1968 Triumph 650 Bonneville, and 1993 Harley FLHS. I bought the BMW and Harley new, Triumph was about four years old. I only have the FLHS, and I refer to it as my 'first and last Harley'. Always have been intrigued by the sport bikes, and if I was to ever get one, it would be a Hayabusa. I just seemed to me, like the perfect meld of performance and comfort.

For normal Jo Blow, change the exhaust, consider a new seat and maybe get a gear indicator on a Gen 1 and leave it at that.

I wanted the 99 when it came out and ended getting a 2022. It's a great bike. Tons of mods for it.
I'm on my 2nd Busa and love it still! Don't care what people think about it. It does the job effortlessly without complaint and is reliable. Can't go wrong!

loved my gen1!!!! made it a 1397 with brock exhaust. very good tune. sold it 12 years later. 60k miles. while i upgraded to a 2018 zx14r the bus is still my favorite
I danced in front of the Busa flame but was too frightened to take the step as a middle aged Nerb! I devoured the technical info and road tests of the then cream eg Gen 1 Busa, Honda Blackbird and Kawasaki ZZR.
I walked the Ducati path until 2008 when I finally bought a new Fireblade with all the bling I could find. It dyno'd at 197hp at the rear tyre and weighed in at 180kg. Time to go Busa hunting.
My little brother stayed pure! He has and loves his Black stock Gen 2 Busa. When we ride together it goes like a rocket sled and looks so purposfull. The best decision ever made.

Pretty much all sport bikes look the same (for very good reasons of course: aerodinamics and performance on race, speed, etc), but only the Hayabusa looks absolutely different and to me it was love at first sight: very few angular, sharp edges. It's all rounded and beautiful.
I want a gen 3 terribly love that white with blue accents they have done, definitely want to go 200mph. Thinking about trading my Africa twin in for one

Well I like my first year Suzuki made a 4 stroke, 4 cylinder 2 wheel fun. My '78 GS750E. It is plenty fast when you want. No fuel injection, no ABS, no radiator has a gear indicator and easy to ride hard to keep the front tire down.
I just got a gen 2 as my second bike. My first bike was a duke 390 bc yam told me it was good lmao! So I owe yam for my motorcycle choices

@@2010johnking i still have it. I mainly commute around the city its the perfect nimble bike. Im a little bigger at 220 lbs so shifting through all the gears in the city sometimes sucks but ill mever get rid of it. Now the busa is anotjer animal but love them both

I just watched the original “So you want a Hayabusa” this morning. To my surprise, this came out today and I’m also watching it now. Bought a Honda Blackbird a few weeks ago, but have always loved the Busa
you probably made the better decision. Blackbirds are more than fast enough not to matter and are utterly bomb proof
The Blackbird is also way more rare to see on the road. So you have something that’s much more unique… and plenty fast enough.
It doesn't have some sort of sexual allure (also it's not at all ugly), it just looks like pure power.

I've watched this particular yammie noob video three times in the past ten months!! "WHY???", you ask. Well, because I find it hilarious AND there are a lot of great facts and specs in it also. I'm a "dad rider" who loves his Gen ll FJR 1300. Nope, its top speed isn't anywhere near that of the MIGHTY BUSA but, its still a fun, fast (0-60 in 2.8 sec) big, inline 4, Japanese motorcycle, and I've loved those things since I built a KZ 1000 to the HILT way back in my mid 20's. Ive had my 1999 Hayabusa since late 1998 when I traded my anemic R1 for some real muscle-i also love my 03 Gsx R750 equally since Suzuki is the iconic Racing Manufacturer & I wouldn’t settle for anything less🏁

The Hayabusa engine and transmission has been used successfully in little cars my favorite of these. Is an old Fiat 850 Spyder it works incredibly well .

I don’t think it’s ugly at all. In fact, I’m always been fascinated by its work. I’ve always wished I could get a ride on one.

I bought a 1st gen with 1600 miles on it last summer, my neighbor had it in his garage for 20 years. I waisted fifteen years of my life riding Harleys, although to me, the Hayabusa will always be the best and the most beautiful bike ever made. Today I ride a Honda NC 750 X, I guess I'll never learn.
What Harley would you recommend as someone who never had that kind of bike? I’ve been riding scooters around 250 cc’s
@@user-zm5um8ln4e I'd say, the one you can afford, my first bike was a suzuki intruder 800, no big deal, cruisers are easy to ride.

The second gen, with those sculpted rear indicator bumps reminds me of that Mitsuoka Orochi 'fish car' which has lots of ovoid sculpted details.

You should watch the Moore Mafia video he did comparing Hayabusa vs ZX14, its a great watch. Both amazing bikes. If i recall i think he said Hayabusa is better platform to modify and race, but ZX14 had a slight edge stock.

To be fair the hayabusa was named after the fastest movie creature on the planet. The falcon I think Suzuki deserved points for that.

Suzuki chose it because Peregrine Falcons EAT Blackbirds... as in Honda Blackbirds.-its only rival at the time the beast was released. It is the finest machine with a bulletproof engine. As long as you don't, oh I don't know, install a TURBO with a kinked oil hose and put a hole in one of its pistons. Hopefully, the bearded one can make her glorious once again, again, again, and again. Loved that bike. whoops- I should've watched the whole video before chiming in like a know-it-all-all D-bag my bad. Great clip! and honestly, Gen 1 IS the only true Busa.
