The Who was incredible! There will never be another group like them! It warms my heart to see a young woman discover them and fully appreciate them all these years later.
John is a Lead bassist... Not a bass player but a Lead bass player, big difference and nobody can do it like him. In fact all three instrumentalist are lead instrumentalist in how they all basically solo at the same time but it works.
This was the Who at their peak. Uncontrollable drive held together with superb musicianship. For a time they were the best, no one else came close. Keith was the gold standard for drummers despite being unstable and self-destructive, a wild man on drums and in life. Roger really came into his own around this time as a first-rate singer - not just a screamer. A legit tough guy. Nobody messed with Roger. Pete was an intellectual and world-class songwriter. John - Thunder Fingers - was one of the most inventive bass players who ever lived. The Who spoke to me as a kid growing up. The vacuum left by their passing has never been filled
Seeing the Who live was probably the best show I ever attended. I am a huge Yes fan and saw the at their peak as well but I saw the Who three rows from the stage directly in front of Pete Townshend. Unforgettable.
Love The Who, love this song. I was at this concert, it was on the Isle of Wight. it was 2am, the entire audience was stoned and The Who absolutely killed it, they were brilliant.
As a huge Who fan I really appreciate you reacting to this live performance. The Who must be seen/heard live and this was an iconic performance. They are definitely controlled chaos. It has been said they are " four leads in one group". Good job, Preston on the request!! Well done! I have watched some of your reactions and you do a great job, Stacey. John Entwistle's "Custom" Leather Skelton Suit arrived right before the show, but was TOO small. So he had to be sewn into it! The WHO played this gig at 2 AM, insane..
This is the height of their power and energy. This was how they performed the entire concert. The most dynamic concert I ever attended when I saw them in 1975. You basically have 3 musicians playing their instruments like they are lead instruments. An amazing band
This is the era they blew Led Zep off the stage literally at Merriweather Post Pavilion 1969. Robert Plant said The Who was the best live band he ever saw.
Originally written and recorded by Mose Allison in 1957. This song became a staple live performance for The Who. I also like the cover that the Foo Fighters did.
Everybody's soloing for most of the song yet they still work together. It verges on the point of collapse but just holds together thrillingly. It's as much jazz as it is rock n roll.
@@ChrisFreund-rt8rf Check out the original version of this song by Mose Allison - it is actually a jazz song, and very very different to The Who's version ua-cam.com/video/X97ykx3rO3s/v-deo.html
This is classic Who. This is music made for the larger venues becoming available to artists due to better amplification and sound equipment generally in the 1970s. The "arena shouting" of Roger, Pete's huge 'boom-bang' chords, and Keith's personality large enough to fill any huge venue made them the ideal rockers for the decade. As always, the Ox was always the Ox (John). Also worth adding, the Who did contribute to the roots of punk music, which was rising during the 70s.
Their chaos is addicting! Thats a great way of putting it. This band inspired me to play music. I enjoy them in a way so primal, it is similar to how my cells enjoy oxygen..
Growing up it was always...The Beatles or Stones? I love both. But decades later...my answer is The Who. An incredible, long catalogue that you've only scratched the surface of. You're literally only a few feet into the deep rabbit hole. And if you like bass....check out "The Real Me". Perhaps the greatest bass driven song in rock history. And Keith goes crazy in it too.
The Real Me...of their entire catelog this is the top song that Moonie could claim as his anthem. Just love how this irresistibly loveable little human cherry bomb at 5'7", with freakish strength could lay waste to any environment. And did. Gleefully. Most notorious, and poorly imitated by countless posers ever since. Nobody brought it like Moonie. Nobody. I have so much more I could say about this lunar traveler and the staggering impact he left in his momentary touch down to earth...but I'll spare the comments section a further saga and leave it at this: "somehow when you smile, I brave bad weather ". So much truth in that line. Thank you Mr. Moon, Moonie, Mandy's dad and engine that drove The Who. There Is No Substitute 🥁💜
I remember being 12 years old at my grandparents beach house. Had an older kid told me he went to see the Who last night and they were so loud. Still jealous of that kid
John Entwistle is a bass icon whose approach changed the world of rock bass. His influence is among the strongest of every bass. Rock Bass icons Entwistle, Jack Bruce (Cream), John Paul Jones (Led Zep), Chris Squire (Yes), Steve Harris (Iron Maiden), Billy Sheehan (Winery Dogs, David Lee Roth)
Geezer Butler as well, but for my $$$ rock bass all starts with John Entwistle and Jack Bruce. They influenced everyone who came after them. Young Man Blues (John) and the live 16 minute version of Spoonful (Jack) are absolutely incredible to listen to.
I went to see a Roger Daltrey solo gig on June 20 in Boston and "Young Man Blues" was the last song of the gig. It was so great to hear it live again after all these years!
This was a perfect sample of their live videos from 69/70 from this era at Woodstock, Tanglewood and the Isle of Wight Concert. They were volcanic on stage and staking their claim as best Live Rock Band. Try The My Generation jam from any of those shows for incredible performances of them at their best. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥 Also, thanks for showing some love for John Entwhistle, one of my top 3 bass players with John Paul Jones and Geezer Butler.
There's a performance I think you would love, when at the Tribute to Freddy Mercury concert at Wembley Stadium, Roger Daltrey performed with Queen on their song "I Want It All". Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath was also onstage. Daltrey as a frontman with Queen absolutely caused epic pandemonium that night!
Bought a Mose Alison album just to hear the original. It's like a different world with the Who's version. Thank you for listening to the greatest rock group of all time!
Imagine, there was an era in the early to mid 1970’s where you had The Who, Led Zeppelin and Rush. 3 legendary drummers, 3 legendary Bass players, 3 legendary guitarists (especially Page and Townsend) and 3 great vocalists. The talent those 3 bands had was unbelievable.
I got my first Who album in 1978. By 1984 pretty much had all of them. That's the year I left for the Marine Corps, and I caught my mother are drumming to Keith Moon a lot. She was born in 1928.
There has never been, nor will there ever be, another band anything like The Who. They are the ultimate rock band. Chaotic, powerful, relentless, brutal, but at the same time, always very musical and of an incredible high left of musicianship. Greatest band ever. In my opinion of course. I loved your reaction, Stacey, by the way. ❤❤❤❤❤
What a great reaction, I really wanted the Brazilian Gabriel Herinque to react, singing stand up with the black to black choir, it was posted on Gabriel's official channel on June 6th of this year
You have reacted to my favorite Who concert video. I saw them 3 times in their prime, and they were indeed incredible. Amazing that this was 54 years ago. Ahead of their time !
I;m so glad you reacted to this. My favorite performance ever. Please consider "Behind Blue Eyes". Roger & John along with The Chieftains, an Irish folk band live at the Carnage Hall 1994. John plays acoustic bass that is beyond amazing. Thanks again, Rock On

I follow your channel here in Brazil and I would recommend a video with you reacting to the performance of the great guitarist Rory Gallagher playing "A Million Miles Away" on his fantastic 'Irish Tour 74'. Keith was the poster boy for manic personalities! Just imagine the the chaos of Keith, John Lennon and Harry Nilsson running amok in L.A. on John's "Lost Weekend".
Keith was very unorthodox and a natural improviser on the drums. He was unusual in that most drummers play in lock with the bassist but he plays in lock with Pete on lead guitar. Animal on the muppet show was based on Keith.
Just want to say, if it hasn't already, when Pete does the windmill, it doesn't just look cool and create a unique sound - it's dangerous as hell! I tried doing it with my guitar at 10% the speed and I cut my fingers on the strings as my fingers grazed the strings. He's cut his fingers many times before and even broken his finger or wrist before because his aim was slightly off. That's just so badass.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this on one of your Who reactions, but for most of his career Keith didn’t use a high hat. He kept time on a regular cymbal which added a little more volume to his playing.
John Entwistle, the Ox! He said of his live performance-Early on in the band while playing live, the other 3 were constantly competing with each other, with Keith usually winning,Pete coming in second, and Roger really trying to hang in there, and I just decided not to compete.
Here is an interesting fact about John Entwistle that comes from Pete's book "Who I am". John was a Freemason for his entire life and Pete only found out about it while driving home from John's funeral, from the limo driver because him and John were in the same chapter. I find it amazing that John managed to keep something like that a secret from the others for so long. It explains truly his skills on bass guitar which were excellent.
