Hiiii sorry for the weird volume influxes! The video I reacted to had weirdly low volume so I had to crank it up when editing. Thank you for your support and watching anyway
Amen. I've been a Who fan for decades, and love their live performances, but the original studio versions of their songs are very superior. A much more rewarding listening experience. Not sure why so many reaction videos choose live cuts of songs. They're rarely as good, usually inferior.
The entire "Who's Next" album was salvaged from the much bigger "Lifehouse" project which was to be another grand opera like Tommy & Quadrophenia. This song was a moment in the story where a certain character is coming to grips of being the bad guy, and is singing to himself in the mirror(self reflecting on one's bad choices).
"If my fist clenches crack it open before I use it and lose my cool, if I smile tell me some bad news before I grin and act like a fool, and if I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat, if I shiver please give me a blanket, keep me warm let me wear your coat... "
Roger Daltrey's vocals in this song is legendary. Pete Townshend's lyrics really epitomize someone with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde feelings, then you get Keith Moon going nuts on the drums. Also, "Who's Next" is one of the greatest albums in rock history, front to back every track is astounding.
My favourite Who song! I've seen them 3 times in the last 20 years, including their 50th anniversary concert and I've been in Pete's personal recording studio & held his guitar, so I'd say I know their stuff!
The meaning of The Who's song "Behind Blue Eyes" is about a social outcast who is struggling with their identity and ethics. Pete did write some of the lyrics from experiences in his past from social temptations. He wrote the song based on characters from a film script called Lifehouse
Behind Blue Eyes is one of my favorite songs by the who (quite probably my favorite) and one of my favorite rock songs. Both because it is aan awesome song, and also because it really speaks to me as someone wrestling with their mistakes and darkness, while maintaining a positive face to the world, and also having blue eyes myself it connects me all the more. Loved your reaction and thoughts on the song.
Ive said in another video that The Who are the best band to ever walk the earth. Yes, better than Zeppelin, The Beatles/Stones, all of them. No one was a good as them live and Townshend is an underrated songwriter and composer
They planned the explosion, but Keith inadvertently stuffed more explosives into his kit, unaware that a member of the crew had already placed the explosives.
My favorite band. Saw them first Fillmore West 1967, Then a few dozen times since. Was at the famous Cow Palace gig where Moon the Loon fell out. The best was a Berkely Community Theatre gig where they were on stage for about 3 hours and did Tommy for one of the first times.
The lyrics to this song could be a state of mind everyone goes through every now and again. I purchased Who's Next and Who Are You albums on vinyl back in the early 80's in the north of England. One of my favorite Who song is " The Music Must Change." You might like the movie " Tommy" with Roger Daltrey as the Pinball Wizard which is also a great song.😊
The version of Pinball Wizard in the movie Tommy is a cover version performed by Elton John. He also appears in that scene as the competitor. I like both versions, but Elton's version is a bit more bombastic and appropriate for the scene in the movie.
Hi Stacey! "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who is a deeply introspective song. It brings back a lot of memories for me. I was a young kid when I first heard it, though I can't remember exactly when. I know it’s part of a chapter in my life, and maybe it still is in some way. Indeed, this song isn't what you would typically expect from The Who. I used to hear it on the radio and think, "That band sounds familiar," until I finally got the record years later! I was more interested in the song itself than anything else, which is rare for me because I usually want to know everything about the artists and their music. Anyway, about a week ago, it came on my playlist, and it sounded great! It reminds me that you can fall, but as long as you pick yourself up, everything will be okay. Thank you again for a great reaction! Keep them coming! Cheers!
You should watch the movie " Tommy " based on the same album by the Who. Roger Daltrey plays Tommy Walker and Keith Moon plays Uncle Ernie. There's a lot of musical guest stars also like Elton John, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton. It is basically a Rock Opera just filled with good music.
I so enjoy your reactions. And you're spot on about the competitiveness in the band. I always saw John as the older brother type. If you dig their harmonies, check out an early tune of theirs: "The Kids are Alright." It's excellent. "My generation" is also a classic. Have a good one!
I can’t even begin to talk about all the Who goodness that is in store for you. Needless to say, you’ve barely begun to scratch the surface. The movies, Tommy in particular, were beyond words.
As someone who has always had blue eyes (and had depression for a long time) I've always felt a connection with this song and it's always been my favorite Who song.
Pete and Roger are still travelling around world with The Who. Some years ago I watched them in Allianz Parque Arena, Sao Paulo, Brazil. On drums was Zack Starr, the son of the beatle Ringo Starr. On bass, a relative of Pete Towswnd. Was a great show! Thanks for reacting to The Who, Stacey. Keep this way! 👏(sorry about my English errors, I'm brazilian...)
You should have seen them in concert! Roger Daltry (singer) was a regular acting in Highlander the tv series back in the early 90's as Duncan McCloud's best friend over hundreds of years (immortals)! Limp Bizkit also did a remake of this song! R.I.P. Keith!!!
I loved this reaction sooo much. I smiled watching you enjoy this and even laughed a little. Just like you can't get enough of the Who I can't get enough of your reactions. Looking forward to what's next
Incredible tune from arguably their best album, you should do the original studio version ASAP, it is THE Version you absolutely need to hear, in studio the mix is incredible and the sound pristine. Great live clip but not the song people will list to centuries from now. Give it a try when you can, enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤
One of the greatest Rock stories of all time was.... at the Monterrey pop festival 1967, Jimi Hendrix (rising Rock superstar, loved by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, etc..) was back in the States for the first time in years from London, Pete Townsend said there is no way in hell they are going on before Hendrix (thinking the Who were the headliners) Hendrix stood on a chair and said ok...but after I'm done no one is going to care to listen to you! It turned out to be true! By the time Hendrix had literally set his guitar on fire, NOBODY was thinking about The Who!!
With all due respect, neither The Who nor Jimi wanted to CLOSE. They each knew how good the other was, and didn't want to get upstaged. The Who won and went on first. Jimi "pulled out all the stops" as Pete called it.
For someone not familiar with The Who, you have really figured out quickly much of the essence of who they are. I might recommend the song "Bargain", it's like a hard rocking love song, and the lyrics really capture what it is like when you are over the moon about someone.
Once, I heard someone I knew, who struggled mightily, say, "The song says 'no one knows what it's like to be the bad man', but I do." And that person truly did... I will never forget that. EDIT: If you haven't, listen to Tommy. In my opinion, it is the greatest rock album ever made (and I am not alone in that opinion). They also made a movie out of Tommy, which is a trip and worthy of checking out as well.
Hi I think you would really enjoy listening to the "Who's Next" album! It is one of my favorite albums of all time. Some of the songs you reviewed are on it, but the whole album is amazing!😊
They aren't amping each other up--they're putting on a show! Rock stars like The Who, Jethro Tull, etc. know that you can't just give an audience something to hear--they could stay home and put on a record for that--but you also need to give an audience something to see, something to watch. And bands like The Who do that.
Thoroughly enjoy watching every new convert to the music of my g-g-generation. Hit some older stuff like "Magic Bus" or "I Can See for Miles." Cheers....
The first time I heard this song was the studio version from Who’s Next, and it blew me away! Nice reaction to a live version which really the Who live is way better than them in the studio.Check out anything from Live at Leeds.
Hi Stacey, glad that you like The Who from their best late 60's/70's period. This was a classic album. The Who by Numbers is probably Pete Townsend most personal album, Slip Kid especially. As always keep on rockin beautiful lady !
This video is from 1978, but this song first appeared on the WHO'S NEXT album in 1971. You MUST check out those original studio cuts, engineered to perfection, and often are longer as a verse gets dropped from the Live performances from time to time.
This is off the Who's Next album which originally was going to be a concept album like the album before this one, Tommy. Nobody could understand his idea so they scrapped it but used several songs and added a few more. A lot of people think this is their best album.
As always, loved your reaction . And you’re correct, these four guys were like brothers. You need to react to “A Quick One, While He’s Away”. ( Rock and roll Circus
Between tours in the mid 1970's, Keith Moon showed up at Alice Cooper's house in Phoenix Arizona and spent the whole summer in his pool house (drunk). He made the local news a few times while on a binge and disturbing the peace.
This is the show where they open for Spinal Tap. The show was building to a crescendo but Spinal Tap refused to play in support of wage increases for circus performers.
Check out their live performance of My Generation on The Smothers Brothers Show when they were really young. Pete suffered permanent hearing loss from that performance and Betty Davis allegedly fainted backstage. It's epic!
The Punk and the Godfather is a fantastic Who song from their Qaudrophenia album, and one rarely seen to on reaction channels. It's definitely worth a listen.
Interesting that you found a live version of this song Stacey, it was cool but I think the studio version would have been a better choice in this case because it has better dynamics, make sure to check it out soon. Pete wrote most of the band's songs, and while some of it is probably autobiographical, lyrically I feel this song is also quite relevant today. There are a lot of lonely, sad, angry men out there who would probably identify strongly with this song and are in need of friends, girlfriends, and general in-person social connection. For other great lyrical tunes by The Who, I would suggest the comedic/sarcastic 'Substitute' and the burn/revenge song 'I Can See For Miles.'
Great choice from you! I'm a big who fan, and this is one I learned to play myself! Your reference to John is right on! He's like the Dad calmly watching his kids misbehave, but keeping it together❤
Your everything 😂. Love your reactions 😁 I seen all theses rock bands live . I grew up in the explosion of great bands after bands. Most of the bands led Zeppelin who pink Floyd are equally great 💯👍
This is a top 3 Who track for me, as it represents everything the Who were at their best, and as others have stated, give the studio version a listen. As it's one of the few Who songs I might say is better in the studio version over any "live" performances, at least the ones I've heard. I would also recommend listening to some of Pete's demo versions of any Who tracks, as he wrote 95% of all their songs. So he would lay everything out before bringing the songs to the band to put their own stamp on, and Behind Blue Eyes like many of their best songs are so very different when performed by Pete alone as the writer.
great reaction, Stacey! This whole LP, "Who's Next" , is a masterpiece! You should consider listening to some of their really early stuff like Magic Bus and My Generation.
One of my very favorite songs by them and as a trained singer vocal performance major GRCC graduate May 1 2015 I have a four active range I sang this song many times it karaoke joints this one I get standing ovations every time Love is on The Way by Saigon Kick Dream Weaver are two others I get standing ovations for
I couldn't believe it when Limp Bizkit covered this song. This song is such a classic. Have you ever seen their performance on the Smother's Brothers variety show?
First time on your channel. Your intro reminded me of a song by Frank Sinatra called "That's Life", if you're curious about the first pop music superstar. And I see you've reacted to several of The Who's Shepperton Studio performances. Check them out as young men in 1964 with their first hit single "I can't explain". For many years, they would open their concerts with that song
This was filmed for the biopic "The Kids Are Alright." It was not used. The group was under rehearsed, and Pete thought it was a disaster. This is why he is in a foul mood during the performance.
In the early days The Who didn't make ANY money even though they were a super group of Rock because at the end of every show they would absolutely destroy all of their gear on stage. drums, guitars, amps, everything...and their hotel rooms as well!!!
Great reactions. For some bands who have been around for 30 years rather than 50, check out Wilco and the Drive-By Truckers. They’re still out there touring, and tickets won’t break the bank.
From Pete's Lifehouse project. A failed rock opera, because no one could really understand the story or the concept. One note can change the world. Pure and Easy!. Composed during his heavy Remy Martin drinking days. The songs were great and became the Who's Next album. Blue eyes to be sung by the villain. Pete''s demos can heard on UA-cam called Lifehouse Chronicles. Worth a listen if you have the time.
The song is sung from the point of view of a character from the "Lifehouse" project that Pete never really finished back in the early 70s....Most of the "Lifehouse" songs wound up on "Who's Next"
Ah, this takes me back. Again, it is essential that you listen to "Quadrophenia" in order, as it was intended. It's often quite introspective in the same way, and is without a doubt the band's masterpiece and cements Townshend's genius. You may want to consider listening to it in one sitting and breaking it up into separate videos.
Hiiii sorry for the weird volume influxes! The video I reacted to had weirdly low volume so I had to crank it up when editing. Thank you for your support and watching anyway
The Who is always best cranked up!
I would never miss your reaction. I see almost every one within a couple hours
"Join Together " "Baby don't you do it" come on!!! 🤦
@@richd66-p4o Same here your a breath of fresh air Stacey.
There are better versions out there. Also, check out the studio version.
Stacey, for your own enjoyment, you should hear the studio version...such a beautiful sound!
Yes. I'd suggest that she listen to the entire "Who's Next" album. The closest thing there is to a flawless rock album.
For real, the live version feels rushed.
Agreed. Not my favorite version, but you get the gist.
Spot On, she did not hear the proper song and mix.
Amen. I've been a Who fan for decades, and love their live performances, but the original studio versions of their songs are very superior. A much more rewarding listening experience. Not sure why so many reaction videos choose live cuts of songs. They're rarely as good, usually inferior.

This song was a moment in the story where a certain character is coming to grips of being the bad guy, and is singing to himself in the mirror(self reflecting on one's bad choices).
It's a lyrical masterpiece. As a composer, Townshend has very few equals.
"If my fist clenches crack it open before I use it and lose my cool, if I smile tell me some bad news before I grin and act like a fool, and if I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat, if I shiver please give me a blanket, keep me warm let me wear your coat... "

Fantastic Album
See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You - Isle of Mann 1970. Absolute perfection.
Isle of Wight?
I miss Keith. He was such a one-of-a-kind human being. Completely mad - but wonderfully unique.
I thought it was about Roger.

Such an iconic rock band. when they made The Who the mould was broken.
Pete wrote everything. Try My Generation on the Smothers Brothers. Keith blows up his drums.
Townshend's deafness in one ear was caused directly by Moon's excessively fueled drum kit explosion as seen on the Smothers Brothers
They planned the explosion, but Keith inadvertently stuffed more explosives into his kit, unaware that a member of the crew had already placed the explosives.
My Generation from Live at Leeds or the video of it from the Isle of Wight are superior versions, though that was entertaining!
Not quite everything, just the majority. John wrote quite a few of their hits as well.
This song is a masterpiece. The mood at the start, and then the rage towards the end reflects the lyrics perfectly.
you can't beat The Who. The live version of bellboy where Keith Moon sings is a real gem!
My favorite band. Saw them first Fillmore West 1967, Then a few dozen times since. Was at the famous Cow Palace gig where Moon the Loon fell out. The best was a Berkely Community Theatre gig where they were on stage for about 3 hours and did Tommy for one of the first times.
This was another great track off their album “Who’s Next”.
I was born in 1971 to 2 twenty year olds & the Who was 1 of my moms favorite bands…I feel grateful for that 🖤🤘🏻
The lyrics to this song could be a state of mind everyone goes through every now and again. I purchased Who's Next and Who Are You albums on vinyl back in the early 80's in the north of England. Out of the Who's incredible discography, this is my favorite.

Entwistle was one of the greatest bass player that I ever got to see.
Keith Moon had a huge happy go lucky personality 🎈. Care free and loved his life
I loved this reaction sooo much. I smiled watching you enjoy this and even laughed a little. Just like you can't get enough of the Who I can't get enough of your reactions. Looking forward to what's next
You really must start getting into the two Who rock operas. They are both masterpieces in my opinion.
Tommy is amazing show a masterpiece. Saw Tommy it was unbelievable
Great choice another fave

One of my favorites from The Who
Next-MY GENERATION from The Smothers Brothers Show-some of Entwistle’s Best playing

John Entwistle, bass extraordinary, wrote and sings Boris The Spider, if you'd like to do a bit of John as well as the other members.
Keith Moon . Legendary drummer and mad man .RIP . John said he he saw his main purpose in the band was to babysit the three unruly children
Once, I heard someone I knew, who struggled mightily, say, "The song says 'no one knows what it's like to be the bad man', but I do." And that person truly did... I will never forget that. Studio version. Some songs just need it. This is one.
The Magic Bus from Live at Leeds.
Hi Stacey, glad that you like The Who from their best late 60's/70's period. This was a classic album. The Who by Numbers is probably Pete Townsend most personal album, Slip Kid especially. As always keep on rockin beautiful lady !

Stacey, you should check out their 1965 Shindig performance of Can't Explain. Gives an early glimpse of their potential.
Awesome song! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, as always!
Hello beautiful Stacey. Great reaction as always!
You should react to see me/ feel me or naked eye live at Woodstock, in my opinion the best who live performance.
This is off the Who's Next album which originally was going to be a concept album like the album before this one, Tommy. Nobody could understand his idea so they scrapped it but used several songs and added a few more. A lot of people think this is their best album.

Miss them so much. 😢
Between tours in the mid 1970's, Keith Moon showed up at Alice Cooper's house in Phoenix Arizona and spent the whole summer in his pool house (drunk). He made the local news a few times while on a binge and disturbing the peace.
Listen to "Love Reign O're Me" ( Yes, Pete wrote Behind Blue Eyes" about himself.) Saw them live in 1976 not long before Keith passed.
This is the show where they open for Spinal Tap. The show was building to a crescendo but Spinal Tap refused to play in support of wage increases for circus performers.

The best live version of this song is at the concert for Kampuchea in 1979
Great reaction! This song is from the abandoned Lifehouse project and is from the point of view of the antagonist, or villian!
The thing is, keith moon wasn't joking about O.D. ing

Along with You Better You Bet, my favourite Who song.
Agreed, studio version for this one.
Their the best song
You are the most intelligent UA-cam reactor I've seen!

You really need to watch the documentary "The Kids are Alright" if you want to get a vibe of The Who
Ah, this takes me back. Again, it is essential that you listen to "Quadrophenia" in order, as it was intended. It's often quite introspective in the same way, and is without a doubt the band's masterpiece and cements Townshend's genius. You may want to consider listening to it in one sitting and breaking it up into separate videos.
