Glad to see you inside something outside of the big 3. I didnt think you cared for them. Looking forward to your other videos on this truck.
It would be on par with the 3/4 gas trucks if it had a full floating rear axle. Also nissan has been very conservative with their specs for the XD and many people feel comfortable going 20, 30% above suggested numbers. I mean biggest issue with a heavier trailer is usually not moving it but stopping it and this truck has one of the best brakes out there!
Having owned three new Titans throughout the years, I will say first hand that the truck is definitely underated. Great trucks indeed.
people feel comfortable going 20 or 30% until they cause an accident. Then they will get investigated and jailed for going above the manufacturer's number.
@@Baebon6259 please cite a case that supports this statement.
This truck is on my short list. I went to my local dealer and they only had the normal Titan. I give that truck a A+ in driving. A C- in payload. The XD is a big step up in payload.
Go ahead some dealers have deals remember not many of this sell as the big three and toyota but that's why you can get off price deals
I'm still enjoying my 2016 Nissan XD Platinum Reserve.
Me too
Great video full of information about the new 2020 Nissan. I think if I was in the market for a 1/2 ton pickup I would definitely check out the Nissan Titan XD. Thanks JD for all the information and review.
I have a 2008 Titan and still runs like a champ 👍🏽
The same
Willi Claus 👍🏽 great truck
Very reliable. Great work truck (if all you need is a half ton truck)!
Got a 2012 pro4x, bullet proof
Fantastic review. Got a 2017 XD Pro-4X and its a very capable truck for what it is.
I still love my 2017 XD Diesel!
Love my '17 Diesel also!
@@solidlift me too
I have a 17 Diesel as well. Love it. Very comfortable!
Looks like a lot of 17 diesels here lol. Love mine also!
These are the head lights Ford owners wish they have rather than a bunch of a little dots
Love my 2019 XD PR diesel with the exception of the 26gal fuel tank. Started with same version in 2016. This diesel is actually quieter in the cab than the gas version.
true its very quite
Nissan definitely does it right on the their interiors! Looking forward to seeing a good burnout and some donuts!
Awesome, can't wait for the follow-ups. I want to start overlanding, but I need to be able to pull trailers. Not many trucks on the market have the off-road bits and the payload/towing numbers. If the Power Wagon had the payload rating of the Titan XD Pro4x then I would go with a Power Wagon. GMC 2500 AT4 is close, but the rear locker is automatic which can cause unsafe situations offroad when you need to go slow. Ford offers the F-250 FX4 and F-250 Tremor, which have everything I would want but I'm not a big fan of Ford. Nissan Titan XD Pro4x ticks most of my boxes. I can't wait for the rest of your review videos. I've been eagerly awaiting the review videos from all the UA-cam car channels I frequent.
I have an 18 gas XD with 40k miles now and it has been a great truck. Definitely under-rated. I hope one day Nissan jumps in with both feet in the heavy duty segment.
They're halfway there already with their NV 2500HD vans.
Love my 2017 Titan XD, it's what i use to tow my travel tralier
Looking forward to the next video. Please put a trailer with some weight on it . Those of looking for the XD will want to know if it really has what it takes vs comfort and convenience
I love my 2018 Nissan Titan XD diesel I do not regret getting it and I’m thinking about getting this new one too maybe one day
Love my 2014 Titan!
I love my 2019 PRO 4X great truck to own!
So far everything mentioned is very impressive.
Great review- I have a 2017 TITAN XD PRO4X DIESEL AND LOVE IT but the dash in your truck looks great - can’t wait to hear the follow up reviews 🍻
I bought my 2018 Titan ProX4 because of its hauling abilities and warranty
I love my titan pro 4 x......best truck I ever owned of the big 3....I will buy another titan again....
Big 3 are garbage.
been seeing these on the road a lot lately. they look great.
I wonder if nissan is gonna eventually gonna get into the heavy duty segment.
Well folks, I have not bought a brand new truck since 1980. ?? Does that comment give away my age ? Ha ha
FYI, we are not rich people and this covid has put a strain on our finances ( three month layoff, but recently re-hired). And it may sound stupid but, we went car shopping. Ultimately decided on a Nissan Maxima and made the purchase. But then oh hell! During that transaction the salesman let me test drive 2020 XD. So now, just three weeks later I buy the truck today. Everything in this video is true IMO. So I will keep BT/BRV posted after a few weeks as to how I really get along with my new Nissan XD.
How are you liking XD?
I'm thinking of picking one up.
Thanks.
@@mikeriv60 according to my dealer, a customer ordered 5 trucks. All with everything you could get without being the platinum edition. This one came in to late because of covid. It was the red headed step child on the lot I guess. So, November 24, 2020, after two months of them calling me twice a week , they came up with a much lower price and ‘0% financing. Yes, I really like everything about my truck. The bells and whistles are terrific. Lots of room, long bed, and plenty of HP.
I’m a bit of a hot rodder, probably will have a turbo on it by next summer. A friend of mine is in with Street Outlaws in OKC, to do the work. I believe you would be very happy with a Nissan XD.
Made in America!
What kind of fuel economy did you get with this truck?
Nissan's box truck division is ND. Does ND have a diesel engine that could be used in the Titan.
On your drive I saw academy and raising canes .... you must be in Texas lol
let's see if the Mercedes-Benz 9-Speed is dependable, only time will tell. So far looks promising
The truck sounds good
Just bought my first foriegn vehicle the titan. And I had them all ,never going back. Great v8 does ride sweet my only complaint would be she can get thirsty. But the sound of that v8 is worth it does all you want and yes best price for a new truck.
It's really not foreign. Built with American parts in Mississippi.
Funny how people think the big 3 are really American.
Ram is FIAT.
Chevy builds many of their pickups in Mexico and Fords pickups have very large foreign content in their trucks and they are always sending jobs over seas.
People need to get away for thinking big 3 care about the USA. Funny Honda builds something like 6 car lines in America. Probably more then all the big 3.
Yeah they can be especially the first generation. I have a 2008 Titan usually average between 12 and 16 MPG. My wife had an a 2017 Armada and that was much more efficient, up to 22 miles per gallon on the highway 👍
Why does this video look like it was shot in Orlando/Kissimmee?
Eager to hear more of your thoughts. I'm kind of a closet Titan XD fan.
Has the steering feel changed any? My biggest complaint about my 2019 is around parking lots the steering is very stiff and at speed it’s a little too light, especially for towing.
It's got the largest standard screen in it's class man just saying sounds better
It’s no smoother. Other than some interior and exterior bits…and the deletion of the diesel, nothing else was changed. Chassis and suspension are carryover. BUT….if you drove only the diesel before, the diesel does have a different front spring setup. Otherwise, the suspensions are exactly the same from 2016+.
That makes sense. I drove a 2016 with the Cummins and truthfully I thought it was a very smooth riding truck!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the frame is not the same as the titan. It is heavier duty and beefed up as opposed to the Titan. Love your content your videos helped my Dad and me to find the right truck to match our fifth wheel. keep ut the good work.
It comes from the hd van line
Yes, completely different, much stronger.
Just test drove a ‘21 Titan XD gasser and it felt great. Power was there, shifts were smooth. Then I drove an ‘18 XD with the Cummins and the shifts were hard and erratic. Horrible transmission.
Lost me at, “eliminated the Cummins Diesel engine from their lineup....”
I used to machine the engine block there in Columbus Indiana for the Vanguard engine. They kept having problems with the engine having a catastrophic failure. So it was not the same engine that they put in the dodge Cummins diesel. Two totally different engines.
Love the vid
They should’ve still offered the Cummins.
if you get a chance id love to hear what you think about the new Dodge "Warlock"
It’s the same as a 2018 truck with a different look.... and now you like it?
Nice truck review but love watching you drive around one of my favorite town’s Corpus Christi Texas .is it true that they are going to start making the ram heavy duty trucks here in the US
I have been looking at Nissan Titan XD for the past year. I was hoping for the 5.0 diesel to continue on. You did mentioned the ride quality has improved which my back will appreciate. What is the maximum towing would you recommend for a travel trailer? 7,000 pounds? Keep your videos coming and will be watching your videos this week.
I have a gasser XD and pull several different trailers with it- 7k pounds is nothing. I pull a 10k fifth wheel camper with mine and it does great. Much heavier than that and I would look at a diesel at least if you were towing that much on a regular basis.
Cody Lake
Thanks for your answer.
Haha 7k? Bro there’s guys on the Xd forums pulling 11k lb fifth wheels with this truck. This truck is super underrated. It’ll handle more than it’s rated for
I thought they were going to stop making those things
My dream truck
another Titan PR spotted at 3:12
The lease on my murano ends in Nov. I will be looking for a ½ ton truck to pull a 7k lbs work trailer. Would that fit the bill? Or should I look at a domestic truck? I like the F150.
This one will run circles around the f150
The Titan is a Domestic truck
Yup, titan built in murica!
Wish they still had the diesel.
The 5.0 Cummins ended in 2019.
Coming back in 2023
I hope Nissan has improved on their paint and body quality, I’ve had a Titan and Armada and both of them had the common Nissan racing stripes on the roof and hood where the paint fades, I like the power and ride of them but not sure if I’d buy another
Do you hand wash your car or go through a automated car wash like at a gas station?
@@chriscall3425 mostly hand wash
@@toddgriffis896 thanks for replying,, I have a buddy and his theory is the 100mph blower that is unfiltered, is basically sand blasting and does that to car and trucks that do their car washes at gas station drive thru's. Could make sense?
So off topic of this vid, but since you are a Texan and have a large 5th wheel, figured I would get your take on this. While shopping for a trailer, i was curious about how big can you go before you need a CDL. From the TXDPS website, -Class A - Permits the holder to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle or vehicles towed exceeds 10,000 pounds. - so if I am reading this right, my 2020 silverado 3500 has a GCWR of 29,700, so if i pull a trailer over 10,000 I need a CDL?
CDL is it's for business or commercially in Texas. Non-CDL Class a or b if it's recreational. I made an entire video on this.
My only gripe is the paint is soft and I have more chips than normal
I have an '18 frontier, same issue.
This is more of a pretty boy truck. I love the Pro4x for its lack of chrome inside and out.
Great looking trucks.
Same could be said for a Ford platinum or ram limited
@@miket.9172 Agree
The titan xd needs to be a proper HD or cease to exist. They don't need a dually, they don't even need a full 1 ton, they just need it to tow in the 16-20k range. The 11k on it right now is literally beat out by half tons, and while you don't agree with manufacturer ratings, they are certified to tow those weights, by the same standards this truck is held to. The normal titan is a fine half ton, but the xd is a joke at this point.
People who complain about the tow rating on the XD miss the point of the XD. Yes, there are half tons that tow more than the XD, but you tow 10,000 lbs with the XD and then go pull 10,000 lbs in an F-150 and you will feel much more comfortable and confident with the XD. This is because the XD is essentially a 3/4 ton truck with a half ton engine. It weighs significantly more than an F-150 or other half ton, and therefore is less likely to be bullied around by a trailer. At the same time, the frame, breaks, and suspension are also much beefier than other half tons, so you have better stopping power, will squat less, and have more strength and rigidity. According to Nissan, every year 75,000 buyers graduate from a half-ton to a 3/4-ton truck, and at the same time, 75,000 buyers also switch from a 3/4-ton to a half-ton. Essentially, this means that every year there are 150,000 buyers who can't seem to find a comfortable fit with either a half-ton or a 3/4-ton, leading Nissan to believe that they might be better suited to something more in the middle of the two classes. The solution Nissan cooked up was to put a half-ton's engine in a 3/4-ton truck. What you end up with is a truck with the towing capacity of a half-ton, but with the towing confidence and stability of a 3/4-ton.
And it's not FUGLY! Previous editions were just ugly, at least from the front.
Nissan eliminated the diesel because Cummins stopped producing it. They were hoping to sell it in some commercial vehicles, but nobody wanted it.
Seems like this is a 5/8th ton truck.
They ended the XD in 2019. Couldn't compete with the Dodge, Ford or Chevy Diesel trucks. At least that's what the Nissan dealership told me when I was looking at trucks.
They dropped the diesel in the XD, but you can still buy the XD in the gas version.
I don't understand what Nissan is trying to accomplish with the XD. It isn't close to being as capable as other 1/2 ton trucks, it doesn't offer anything you couldn't already get or do with the 1/2 tons already available. What is the purpose of it? Why choose it over any other 1/2 ton? If I were looking to purchase a Titan, I would just buy the regular Titan.
Well, it is feature rich for the price. It does exactly what other 1/2tons do and in some cases does it better. It has far more safety features and standard options. It has a significantly larger frame than the standard TITAN and some innovative options the Big3 haven't implemented. I don't think there should be a regular TITAN. Just make them all XDs. And it gives people another choice.
Drive the two and you'll immediately notice the difference, especially if you're pulling some weight behind you.
Similarly equipped, you can get the XD for less money than any domestic half ton and it is far more capable. That's where the value is.
Interesting
Sorry but there is no changes to the suspension bud, same exact setup since 2016. Doesn’t ride any different
I doubt the interior is on par with ram! I feel like you’re too nice and positive in your reviews
No, it really is as nice. Go sit in one
The zero gravity seats are legit!
Looking forward to these videos; however in my opinion; the word "nice" should be specifically and permanently banned in any review. It is a nonsense meaningless word
Im just curious what the towing and cargo capabilities are and usually titans are thirsty trucks
I took my 2018 Titan on a 950 mile road trip and averaged 19.8 mpg. I know there are some that will do better, but I was satisfied with that.
@@ronaldpoley4357 I've never heard of anybody getting that kind of mileage out of titan my uncle's Cummins xd doesn't do better than 14mpg
@Kyle Pokorski I failed to mention that mine is not an XD, just the standard Titan with the 5.6 V-8. Mine son bought his about 6 months before I did and his mileage is very similar.
Nice truck. But because of Nissan having financial problems. I shied away from a warranty standpoint.
XD
Great video but not a Nissan fan. Sorry...
Corpus lol
I'm sure it's a very nice truck but the front end is just so unattractive
Still looks like a older F150 but not a nice.
Great......Another half ton that someone will be pulling a fifth wheel with. Shocking.
Well Nissan advertises it that way and comes with a gooseneck kit.
I've seen some very light 5th wheels that can be towed by a half-ton.
Andy Radcliffe It’s not a true half ton. It’s a class 2b. Been hauling a 5th wheel for 4 years with the diesel XD
Hideous. Probably the ugliest truck ever made.
Ridgeline and Gladiator hold that title.
It looks very nice....dang if this is hideous to you, ugliest truck ever made lol...have you seen a new Chevrolet. They are upside down and fugly
J Q1985 The new Chevy is ugly, for sure, but some versions look okay. But the Nissans, in every iteration, are worse. It defies me that anyone would buy them. Besides being obscenely ugly, they’re pretty much bringing up the rear in every category except price.
God i love my 2018, gets complements everywhere i go, stout engine, love how it drives and tows my trailer.
Ewwww gasoline power 🤮🤮🤮 had something unique and wonderful going for them with the cummings engine and japanese tranny. But now just another garbage nissan that'll break at 70k miles
I'm sorry JD, but that is the ugliest thing I've seen yet.
Some say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Uh-uh, nope. It may drive great, haul the mail with abandon, but at the end of the day, y'all can't fix ugly.
You wanna what the most ugliest current truck is? The current Chevy Silverado, it’s FUGLY! That Nissan Titan by far is a great looking truck!
@@Ybshy FUGLY! Yep, Gerard, y'all nailed it with that definition.
Giddy up.
Ah the Titan has to copy the look of gmc, ford and Ram to actually sell.
