A tribute to Hughie has been put up in Derby by Rams fan Kal Singh Dhindsa, a big moment for the big man, and great to help his name live on!

When Jinky Jim Smith played for the Toon,. always hoped he could do what Hughie did for the Toon. Sadly, Jimmy never lived really up to his true potential. However, fond memories of Jimmy, when he did play

Jinky was one hell of a player on his day. The only modern player I’ve seen who could cross a ball like him was David Ginola. I seemed to remember Jimmy had legs like a china doll and the injuries caught up with him.

I’ve been studying Hughies career recently for his first team Bellshill Athletic, he was an absolute legend and his records still stand to this day.

Thanks for the post. I remember as a child my father telling me that many good judges whose opinion he valued, said that Hughie was possibly the greatest player they had ever seen. My father was a professional player and manager, so he was talking about respected people in the game who held Hughie in the highest regard. As a kid I was always asking him about the greatest players ever and Hughie's name was always in the conversation. My father never told me about Hughie's tragic life and end, probably because I was only a child, so watching your excellent video was the first time I had heard of these events. Thank you.

Heard a lot of people say similar things, it's tragic how it ended, but seeing how many people know and admire him warms my heart as it shows he won't be forgotten

This is the perfect example of somebody who had it all, and when he lost it all, his life took a bad turn, what a tragic end for someone who was adored by 1000's

My Grandad used to say Hughie was THE greatest player he’d ever seen and he lived to see Best and Pele.
Strangely enough, my Grandma’s boss at Fenwicks (a big department store in Newcastle) was the person who spotted Hughie’s body on the tracks.

Gosh, amazing your grandad saw him live but that must have been horrible for your grandma’s boss being the one to discover him

I'm working on a little Tribute for him in Derby. I met his son Hughie Gallacher Jr a few weeks ago.
