Fantastic time for Scottish football. As an Ayr and Aberdeen supporter, I would go to a few Rangers games with my Gers-supporter pal. Loved seeing some of the greats that rolled up at Ibrox.
When he was at my club as Boss of Blackburn he signed Andy Cole and the went on to sign Dwight Yorke aswell to partner him ...anyway in a open training session at Ewood the squad were playing 5 a side and rotating the squad but Yorke was out partying and being late for training etc ..Souness had a word with him on the pitch in front of fans and Yorke upset him about something so then Souness joined in the footy against Yorke team and nearly ended his career with a thumping tackle in front of bemused fans .....Hardman indeed .......
Rangers under Souness did pre-season training at Jordanhill College. I and my colleagues witnessed their version of the 'no holds barred' version of tackling that Mr McCoist relates here. I have no idea how those blokes avoided serious injuries such as broken legs nor career-ending cruciate damage. Souness was the epitome of gallus. Jock Stein (and some lesser mortals) recognised his 'class'. Others also called him 'that magnificent Bast*rd'.

Souness was probably the best midfielder in the world for about 2 years at the start of the 80s - probably top of the tree in the UK hard tackling leaders in the UK game in the past 40 years - 3 = Robson, 2 = Keane and Nr1 = Souness- what a player. Held his own against the at peak Maradona in Italy in the mid 80s as well.
Was at Easter Rd for the game when Souness was sent off, 21 players booked etc. Souness showed exactly what he wanted from his team and led by example. Amazing to see the beginning of what was a revolution in Scottish football 🙌

Laurence, he wasn't an average manager at all. He managed in some of the top leagues of Europe. Average managers manage in the lower championship and div 1 and don't generally win anything in their careers. He just tried to change things too quickly at Liverpool and later on in his career footballers were whimps who didn't like being shouted at.

Houghton was a big loss as he was player of the year for Liverpool in previous season. Too many new players didn’t settle well so bad results. But then youngsters came through, Fowler, Mcmanaman, Redknapp.

Laurence, he wasn't an average manager at all. He managed in some of the top leagues of Europe. Average managers manage in the lower championship and div 1 and don't generally win anything in their careers. He just tried to change things too quickly at Liverpool and later on in his career footballers were whimps who didn't like being shouted at.
@@lengravy semantics.. and he didn't manage in some of the best leagues in europe.. and he wasnt successful there either.. Rangers he did well and the Scottish league was not as dominated by The Olde Firm as now.. so his achievement there was stand out.. Other than that he was mediocre..
He had to do it bcos 2 foreigners rule was brought in. Liverpool had Grobbelaar, Molby, whelan, Rush, Staunton, Hysen, Saunders, Nicol , Houghton etc. So had to sell Saunders, Houghton and Staunton to Villa and brought in Stewart, Thomas, James, Wright, Ruddock, Clough, Jones, etc..all English. Houghton was a big loss as he was player of the year for Liverpool in previous season. Too many new players didn’t settle well so bad results. But then youngsters came through, Fowler, Mcmanaman, Redknapp.
