  • Hello friends!
    Do you know how many watercolor violets/purples exist?
    I counted 8 and I want to swatch them with you to understand the difference: Cobalt, Manganese, Quinacridone and many more...
    I'm also painting some roses to better explore the different violets.
    I'm so obsessed by violets that I just published a Skillshare class about watercolor Wisteria; if you are not on Skillshare, my referral link will give one month free trial: skl.sh/3JWEYQm

      The range of pinks that have reasonable lightfastness seems to be growing. Pink is pretty, but purple has always been a favourite of mine for decades. Sadly, I am now 56 and have become the poster girl (old lady) for that wonderful poem, I naturally cannot remember (see, an age thing again) 🙄 about getting old and behaving badly whilst wearing purple well past my sell by date! 😂😂

    Sorry you feel poorly, I hope you fully recover soon. As usual, a fascinating video. I learn so very much from you! I give my permission to be named as the culprit who sent the package, as I think it makes your (unnecessary) mention of said culprit very complicated! 🤔 Your roses look so pretty, and yes, it produces a much better way to show the differences. I cannot paint in a loose way at all, I am a control freak where art is concerned. I shall head on over to Skillshare and see if you can help me loosen up painting wisteria!! Please, please, please make up many pallets containing your paints by brand, or mix and match for perhaps a floral palette, an urban palette, a landscape palette etc. I think if you are waiting to use up Paul Rubin’s, it may take years! Rotate your palettes, and splash that paint around!! 😀 You own it now, so the only guilt you should feel is that some of your favourites may remain hidden away for too long. You are such a wonderful all-round artist that you need a wide range of palettes suitable for each individual painting, or line and wash etc. OK, I will now shut up, because I am, most definitely, worse than you in the hoarding and lack of use thing department. A case for “do as I say, not as I do” ❤️❤

      Thank you for this message Anita! Actually I turn around 3 palletes, but I will soon move the Paul Rubens one to the kitchen, so in the studio I will make a brand new one with my favourite colours! As per loose flowers, I think it’s the most difficult thing to draw…I sometimes fill a sheet of paper of roses just to practice, because it has taken me a long time to understand them. Have a nice Sunday Anita…

    Hi Elisabetta. Violets are fun! What a beautiful collection of violets you have. I especially love the Lavender and the Schmincke Perylene colors you swatched out. Also, your Wisteria flower painting turned out great. Have you tried the Wisteria watercolor paint from Daniel Smith? It is one of my personal favorites. Holbein makes a very similar color, called Lilac (PR 122, PV23, and PW6). It might be a good alternative for those who can't get their hands on Wisteria. Sorry about your cold, hope you feel better soon! :)

    Violet is a more official color and is apart of the color spectrum. Purple is just a color and a mixture of red and blue. Typically you’ll see more objects called purple in US General American Vernacular English, meanwhile you’ll see violet in UK (received pronunciation) and its nonAmerican colonies. The choice is up to you on what you’d use.

    violet from Gallo, with PV37, is not very lightfast, but beautiful. And then, Schmincke has Brilliant red violet, made up with PR81:2, is a pinky brillant color. Again, thank you for your videos, I enjoy a lot with them.

    I love violet shadows but strangely enough I don't really use violets in my palette. I tend to mix warm blues (French ultramarine by Schmincke is my absolute favorite) with reddish browns (redder shades of burnt umber or PBr25) and/or cool reds (PV19, PR264) with cool greens (PG7, PG18) for my darks and all of that creates distinct purple-leaning shadows.

    I love violets and purples. Pv14 from winsor and newton is so much better. Less sticky and more tinted. I love the hue of permanent mauve but I never know how to use that beautiful color and it's grabulation. Ultramarine violet by W&N was an unexpected love. I love that it is not as blue as other ultramarine violets, and that is not as strong as dioxazine violet. I use it in shadows a lot. That and perylene violet are on my main palette. Oh and by the way, I think dioxazine violet gets a bad reputation but is not as fading as ratings tell. My professional yellows and my percussion blue with excelente lightfast lightfastness faded within weeks. Before opera rose. All my pinks and reds except for white nights "quinacridone rose" whose pigment I can't remember, darkened and became warmer after a year of sunlight. My dioxazine violet did not change a bit.

    • @WatercolorElisabetta
      @WatercolorElisabetta  Рік тому

      Hi Paulina, thanks for your message! From what I understand, lightfastness of Dioxazine Violet is very variable, and it depends very much on the brands, so I guess you have a lightfast version!
