- Destiny 2's Lore and Story for the "Into The Light" update might feature an invasion of The Last City and a return to the old Tower from Destiny 1! If it does this could have massive ramifications for the story of the Hive, The Black Fleet and the Guardians in general! If we defeat Xivu Arath here, we will deal a body blow to the Hive. If we lose the conflict we could lose the Last City entirely.

If the Last City really is invaded by the Black Fleet, and Hive, and the Black Armory returns to do what it was founded for, then I’ll say it, Into the Light is what Lightfall should have been.
I think rather it's what Season of Defiance should have been.

Might not be a Cabal Scorpius turret, but it does look like it might've been based on their design.
The City’s defenses could improve in a big way if that happens: the Elksni’s engineering and tech skills. The Cabal’s legions, fleets, heavy artillery, and large weaponry. The Awoken’s mystical weapons, spell-craft, and special forces like the Queensguard, Corairs, spies, and Paladins that command their remaining fleets. If they officially join us, Neomuna’s advanced weapons, tech, and hackers could be a great help to any attacks from digital or incorporeal enemies. If Rasputin returns in the future as a Guardian, we could get his memories back, and slowly rebuild his assets that were lost. It could take many years, but there must be old plans of his wartime armaments and other assets somewhere in Sol. If the Warsats, its network, the combat frames, and his many armories and arsenals are restored through our efforts; the Warsats could repel future invasions of our strongholds. Rasputin himself, if he is reborn in the Light, may be a powerful force to combat the hive and worm gods.

Alright let's be honest, If there is a new disciple, I think we all know exactly who it is. The infamous Hive Knight that has been risen time and time again to prove their strength. The one and only... Kelgorath.

It would be a wonderful surprise for everyone if we moved back or at least had access to this as the next H.E.L.M/Enclave/Public space, especially for new players coming in.

If I recall Riis was completely destroyed, and Torobatl was rendered inhabitable by hive corruption please correct me if I'm wrong. BUT I can easily see some Ex Duex Machina happening after the Witnesses defeat and having the Traveler pull some crazy crap and "fixing" the planets.
@@happystate2480tbf the travellers whole thing is terraforming and making bad planets hospitable (Venus, Mars, reef etc)
Instead of planets in the Sol system we have multiple galaxies we warp between with a couple planets in each, Riis and Torobotl being the main focuses taking the fight directly to the Darkness and Hive holding them. That would be the BEST way to continue the series.
That's exactly what I've been talking about wanting with my friends for the past couple years! Super stoked to see others are interested in the concept. It would be cool if we could somehow find a way to use our Light to restore Riis and Torabatl, instead of using it only for destruction
While my excpectations are lowered, i feel like an invasion of the last city is exactly whats going to happen. One: Bungie wouldn't show this picture as the first piece of content for this update, if the picture does not represent the new content, they aren't stuipid. They are deliberatly showing us this exact picture. Two: the update is definetly using a lot of old content, and considering the last city was already invaded, the assets for this type of event have been made years ago, so Bungie could easily repurpose them for this update

But in the end we failed and the last city gets destroyed.
And the witness goes into the traveller.
Yeah when I saw a city in the Lightfall trailer at first I was like "It's finally happening!" But then it didn't and instead it ended up being one of the worst Destiny dlc's in terms of story.

I can’t help but feel that if the new content is in the last city then maybe this was part of the first version of lightfall.
Considering there are 3 live streams for this means it's big. Which doesn't make sense because it's only been in development for four or so months. Makes sense they would use scrapped stuff to fill some parts in.
I heard an unconfirmed leak a while back before lightfall, that xivu arath would invade the last city with the hive worms gods I think. Maybe that leak was true and was just repurposed for this update and without the worm gods

6-12 player hoard mode would be absolutely amazing! I'd enjoy it immensely
I feel that the initial pyramid ships came with the witness as basically a strike force to cause shock and awe. But what we didn't see was a large portion of ships held back for the moment to strike the final nail. I think this was all part of the plan and that the witness was going to try and wipe away all of the coalition. Or maybe the witness held back forces for if we got too close to entering the portal. We would then have to split forces making defense of our home harder and offense ever more so.
Ahh the classic Morgoth(Melkor) and Sauron tactic love it actually.
I doubt this is the case since it's been confirmed most of those pyramid ships are empty (as aggravating as that is).
It'd be cool if it was a ruse and the ships were full of Disciples and different enemy races, but I don't see that being something Bungie will do due to the immense cost it'd require.

This is strikingly close in concept to something I’ve had in my ideas docs for a long while now. Remains to be seen if they’ll sneak in some Vex shenanigans for extra flavor.
This does, however, feel like it should have been the prelude to Season of Defiance which was sorely missing. In the actual season, we for some reason are rescuing captured citizens with no actual idea as to how they got there in the first place. A City invasion like what is shown in this teaser would have nipped that issue in the bud quite nicely, so I see how some might be disappointed that it is only happening now, in the eve of The Final Shape.
There’s something incredible that we can call the destiny tower “our home” and have it actually feel like that. At least for me the tower does feel kind of like a home. Its genuinely a bit terrifying to see it under attack again. And while Red War had its issues seeing the City taken was something that really hit for me.

We spent the last decade protecting and guardin the last city, it would be a shame if the game ended and we never evn got to actually see the last city.
Also, an horde mode with big mob density would be great in the current sandbox, add some rogue-lite elements and I would put hundreds of hours in it!

Considering Lightfall was promoted to be this thriving neon city and ended up being barren as hell I think it's safe to expect the least from every situation from now on

@@iamboringvideos6832 I'm referring to 2 things really: The way the promotion made it seem like the city would be full of verticality and skyscrapers but in reality the patrol zone is just flat areas and they didn't have time to make a populated patrol zone of neomuni so instead just said they were in a cloud network

Imagine the upgrades the tower got. Not only did we spend like a decade repairing it but also integrating all sorts of new tech. The Coalition also probably gives it a huge boost in literally every department and with Neomuna and their "beyond golden age" gear the fleet and invasion don't stand a chance, we're too pissed to see it end like this lol.

Yes. Adding citizens that you and others save would be so cool. We work with fallen and awoken to save their people and our people would be amazing and good morale boost.
How cool would it be to have another public space in addition to The Tower 1.0 and The Tower 2.0. I think it would be extremely cool to have a public space at the base of the tower, down in the Last City where you can walk around and meet a whole bunch of new characters (or returning characters who have wandered away for a time), and then go out and explore the world outside the Last City and visit some of the buildings you see down there.
I will burst into tears laughing if it's Kelgorath leading an invasion.
Honestly, I would love seeing it as him being successful and the invasion was his idea after he was let unchained and all his failures were because of him being TOLD what to do. Like a " Let me show you what kind of threat I can become" and then he doubles down on everything that was done to us in the past.

Most interaction I've had with the people of the last city outside the tower was the live event leading up to Beyond Light. Since we got to jump from rooftop to rooftop, going down to the streets briefly and seeing actual people before heading back to the rooftops to look at the traveler.
We haven't had anything like that since. Closest thing we had was the eliksni quarter during Splicer and Plunder, but that was solely with the house of light.
I want to wander the streets at night, go visit like a park in the city. Make me have some sort of emotional attachment to the city I've worked for years to defend. Make me feel a lot of emotion while I'm down in the streets, fighting off the Hive and trying to save as many people as possible
My guess is that it could be Xiu Arath launching one last stitch effort to try and get back at us
This video made me remember how cool the Red War campaign was. I wouldn’t want to go back and deal with the old weapon system and slow movement/abilities, but if there was one thing they shouldn’t have vaulted, it was the Red War. New light experience now is so rough
I hope that we will get a destiny tv show but they make it an anthology with each piece of lore having some episodes that would be so cool.

Byf playing the classic music when talking about the tower, and continuously referring to it as our old home 😭 When that tower was our home, my biggest care in the world was how I was going to take down Phogoth. Oh how things have changed
I want to keep my excitement and expectations on a realistic level but that image had me asking the same questions; the black fleet and hive attacking? Vanguard colored turrents? Armor that looks like the sets we started off wearing vanilla D2's opening mission? I would like to see maybe the first and last mission of the Red War come back as one of the memory replay missions so people can experience it; it would also be so funny to take on Gaul with Strand or Stasis.

Well, we will see what "Into The Light" is in 25 days on April 9th. On such short notice, I wouldn't hold my breath that this is going to be massive. If it is bigger, then Bungie was working on this way before Season of the Wish.
Yeah, I don't quite believe 100% that pushing back TFS was solely because of time constraint. Since there's only gonna be 2 "seasons" or whatever they're called now, we now have each one lasting for half a year staring in the middle of the year. That's not coincidence.

Listening to this after having see the Dev Streams is so wild cause the fear was there but it’s actually happening and we’re getting these things
I also think this is an opportunity for redemption and regaining trust of the people.
Particularly because of our use of the darkness has been giving the people of the last city mixed feelings about us as guardians.
If this truly is going to happen, our goal not only would be to defend the last city, but to show the people that despite everything, we are still guardians, using an element of darkness won't change that.
Itd be really cool to see a vex disciple, like a sol divisive hydra or smth, integrated with the tech of its black fleet etc
this could even raise the question what happens if we have to travel into the traveler before this conflict is over. the question of "if we can ever return?" would be overcome by the "what will we return too?" or "are we leaving behind a group that will be defeated without us" because whatever happens it has been shown that we wont know the current events outside the travler while we are away.

that part you mentioned about a cabal, a splicer, a corsair, and a guardian all working together as a team is what Destiny was built on. the last stand at Six Fronts, or Twilight Gap, are those kinds of stories that made people give a damn about this story- heroes who did these great deeds we can really understand, legends. this is the time we can make more of those heroes, who can become the backbone of stories for years to come
I honestly don’t like that the most we’ve ever interacted with the last city has been when it’s an active combat zone or in literal ruins. It’s a bit wild that this is our home city and there’s never been a social area that’s inside it when it’s actually normal.
There’s part of the city we can see in crucible maps, and there was that one temporary social space during the season before beyond light when the traveler reawakened, also I dunno if you’d count it but there’s also the Eliksni quarter we’ve seen a few different stages of.
@@magnusthered9635 That’s what I’m saying the temporary one is pretty much the closest we’ve gotten and the eliksni area is like the first pseudo social space but it’s literal ruins of the Last city Botsa district repurposed to house fallen. We’ve never had a regular multicultural human filled building within the city, and even then we’ve literally never seen the central city where everything is highly developed.
I think the pyramid tech is basically going to be spawners for different enemy types. I could see it having the cabal cloning tech. It woupd basically be the excuse why different enemy types and factions come in waves in s horde mode.
If they are making or upgrading old city locations then maybe this is a sign that the Red War is returning? Would make sense to do both together
Something also to think about the future of Hive leadership, Alak-Hul still is alive and out there. His Ghost was never destroyed upon his death and we never had any foothold or any need to even stay in Oryx's temple, so keeping his body under lockdown and/or moving it like Savathun's is not believable at all.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that massive segment of the last city that appeared during the travellers awakening live event during arrivals. Yknow, the giant uniquely designed segment of the last city that was built from scratch and then only existed in the game for five hours. Ive been waiting for them to bring it back, and i think that might be whats gonna be used here
Generally when Bungie has released key art like this for updates/expansions it's fairly representative of what is actually contained within, at least in terms of the setting, so I am confident there will be an invasion of some kind. That said, I am like 90% sure the repaired tower is a continuity error; it wouldn't be the first time we've seen the tower looking repaired when it should not be (Beyond Light's F2P promo material, Midtown crucible map). I'd love to be wrong because I do really miss it, but I'm not getting my hopes up when I have already so many times.
Idk speaking the collectors edition of the next expansion comes with a statue of the tower so it would make sense it would show up in game
The ItL image reminds me of a front cover of a comic book. It's dramatic, but once you turn the page it could turn out to be a simulation, an alternate universe or a dream.
It would be great to see Eliksni and Cabal allies during the activity, fighting by our side against the Hive
Byf, have you seen several cones of Hive green fire at the edge of the Last City? We’ve been attacked when defenses are low and Guardian pride and egos are high. For example, at the end of Destiny 1, we’ve accomplished so much in 3 years conquering The Vault of Glass, Crota’s Brood, Skolas’s pirates, Oryx and the SIVA Crisis. We should have been more vigilant in our pursuit of guarding our home and the people inside the City.
y'know, Torobatl (however you spell that planet) would be a good d3 planet. Part of our Post-Sol Guardians of The Galaxy phase lol.
The scorpius turrets honestly look like a cumulative effort of the entire coalition. You have a Cabal design with Eliksni-styled armor plates and power, and of course the Vanguard logo. I didn't expect to be so excited about a little turret, but hey, I'll take it!
Also, I think Xivu will be our enemy here. She may have been banished, but she still has her worm. She must make war, or be consumed. I think she'll be at the forefront of the invasion, simply because she cannot afford not to be.
I hope the tower being in the background on the image, repaired and all, means that we'll return. It'd be a great opportunity to introduce new players to it before we see it in the Final Shape. Maybe having 3 iconic weapons on the cover would imply some roguelike mode where we're given weapons to use?
I was so sure before Lightfall’s release that it’s intro mission would mirror the Red War and destroy the ’new’ tower, have us fight in the last city before going to Neomuna, then return to the rebuilt old tower. This picture looks exactly what I had in mind
assuming we do get a few missions or an activity that takes place in the last city where we fight off Xivu Arath's brood, I hope we end up fighting alongside the Lucent Brood as well. I mean they have plenty of reason to want to protect the traveler so it would be cool to see that.
Someone else has probably already mentioned it, but the Tower already looks like that in the Midtown crucible map, which is where the art seems to be based on. Looking back at old UA-cam videos it seems like it has always looked like that.
I think a rougelike horde mode set in the city has high potential and probability. Thanks to D2 vanilla, a couple crucible maps and that one removed raid. There is a tonne of city assets to make maps from. Then there is like 100 different horde mode activities made throughout destiny to draw from and take code from.
Combining all of that into a fun horde mode would be amazing. Would be a perfect chance to re-introduce old weapons and armour as well
I would hope thats its not just hype imagery and we get a eh activity. Having to hold off a full scale invasion of the city and then take the fight into the travler to the witness would be AWSOME. Would be a great way to build up to the big finale
There is a precedent of enemies being around in controlled areas that aren't really a threat to the last city. Possibly Drifter is setting up a big practice horde mode for upcoming invasions the same way he does with gambit.
I believe this version of the last city is a moment captured in time that we will find within the traveller and the witness will be forced to call it's ships in to follow us "Into The Light"
GOSH I hope we actually get to go down and fight against large hordes of enemies in the Last City!

i can see it now, the Cabal allow us to call in turret defenses. orbital strikes for enemy outposts or incinerators for backup. the fallen splicers can disrupt enemy spawns, movement or weapons while a servitor can apply overshields and small fire support. the awoken can be various footsoldiers that hold down areas or open portals if we need to retreat to an outpost or attack an enemy position. i doubt it can be that ambitous but a guardian can dream
Season of Plunder was my first time back playing since Curse of Osiris to this day I have never put more hours into a season including Season of the Wish
I’ve invested so much time into this world. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Neomuna is still such an odd place.
I think a lot of us are forgetting we are STILL in the lightfall year! Into the Light is the end of it and connects into The Final Shape. Not everything happens at once like a movie. Since it does have a seasonal format, one thing needs to be don’t at a time. We don’t know the time frame in-game either. We don’t know how long it’s been from the start of lightfall to into the light and the final shape. Could’ve been a few months
I remember having a conversation with my friends and they were so confused that there weren't just guardians in the last city, because it's never been explained well in the "base lore" (aka free to play and not a novel worth of reading) that conversation opened my eyes to the fact that the destiny lore, if you don't have a lore daddy like byf to explain and read everything, is very inaccessible and daunting at first
I may have missed it, but you seem to have overlooked the simplest explanation for the black fleet. The Witness could just be powerful enough to control them even from inside The Traveler

I wonder if the VoD prophecy wall be resolved with Into the Light.
I’m hoping that maybe while they’ve been rebuilding the tower they were able to salvage a weapon from our armoury, and that weapon was the khovostov, red death, young wolfs howl, it would be a really cool way to bring back an exotic from d1 that we haven’t had comeback yet
Assuming this is what this means that means all 4 of destinys original enemies have invaded or attacked the last city directly and the third time its happened in D2 alone, the battle of 6 fronts was the fallen, Red War was the cabal season of the splicer was the vex and into the light would be the hive and possibly the taken aswell?

Would be dope if it’s like that helldivers objective where you have to escort civilians to safe areas and defend them but instead wait for a ship to transport them while defending them from enemies. Each group of civilians saved increases rewards at the end

It needs to be an open area for us to explore. If it is The Last City, we need to be able to explore it like we explore other planets and such. The interaction with certain citizens could be patrols or just regular talking points. We need to see our knew allies, The Cabal and The Eleksni along side The Queens Gaurd, fighting against Hive. We need to see something that happens rarely. Something like seeing Ikora flying in and using her Warlock skills to wipe out a group of on a roof top or Shaxx and Saint-14 team up to take down an Oger. To me, seeing things like this would make it so imersive
If into the light involves a major brawl between the city and an invasion of hive and pyramids in a combined arms all out war with the cabal and the house of light then honestly I’m more excited for this then the final shape

I feel like this was going to be season of defiance with some sort of spices and it got split up and the ending of it got changed (we got to attack their fleet instead of defending our position)
I would love a new gamemode where we need to fight the Hive and save civilians, with us being able to call in reinforcements in the form of Splicer Snipers, Cabal Turrets and Soldiers, and Awoken Corsair Soldiers. Sounds very Helldivers 2-esque, but it's the kind of chaos I wanna see an invasion of the Last City have.
To be honest, I feel like something Bungie could have done is stripped a layer off of TFS to make this "Into the light:" thing. Maybe this was going to be the start of the expansion. Could make it so there's more content than we think.
But I also think it could, on the flip side, be about as big as just adding the tower and some arcade-like city-set shooter games or something.
I was thinking the same, what is going on? So we finally got around to fixing the tower just in time for the pyramid fleet to invade and destroy? I heard some streamers asking why the weapons are glowing and I thought straight away.... Barrier shield piercing. Looks like a hoard mode. Could be fun.

Us potentially ending the Osmiyum dynasty has got to be Humanity's (and Guardians') greatest achievement, Imagine ending the arguably longest running dynasty/ direct line of rule in the universe, un-interrupted for billions of years.
Bonus points for them being children of the Dark being defeated by children of Light.
Horde mode activity that story wise is an attack from Xivu Arath. Story wise it’s a 1 time attack maybe
