We found something more ancient than The Witness! Asphodelia, the flower of the Black Garden.

- Asphodelia might just be a flower but it seems like it's actually even older than The Witness. It's recorded as being on a Precursor ship's manifest from before the time of The Witness, but it's also been found in the Black Garden, which implies that it might even be as old as The Traveler.

Asphodelia is the true Final Shape, what existed before the Traveler and Witness and shall exist afterwards.
That’s a ridiculous thought
@@Foxcatcher22There are trees that have outlived empires. I can believe a type of flower can beat out the opposing forces of paracausality.
@@Foxcatcher22watch this plot thought by some random is better than what they come up with.
The campaign is going to be all about collecting flowers so we can beat the witness with them
@@robbay8610 the campaign is how we find out the Witness actually has a severe pollen allergy, hence why he wants to end all life as we know it, cause it’s caused him way too much stress
If Unveiling is even vaguely accurate, I wouldn't be surprised if the Flower Game itself is named after Asphodelia
The what
@@eeveeofalltrades4780it’s been awhile since I’ve read it but in the Unveiling lore book the Flower Game is a “game” said to have been played by the Gardener and the Winnower in the “Garden before time.” In this game during the “day” the Gardener would go out and cultivate life, and come the “night” the Winnower would reap that which was not strong enough to survive. Ultimately the Gardener grew tired of this game and sought to create a new rule that would allow for more complex forms to grow while the Winnower disliked such a rule. As the story goes the Gardener and the Winnower began to argue and fight and I believe they join the game as fundamental rules, what I personally assume is the Light (Gardener) and Darkness (Winnower) respectively, and so dawned the universe as we know it. Like I said it has been a while since I’ve read the book so there are bound to be inaccuracies but I believe it is mostly accurate. It’s also from Unveiling that people think that the Black Garden is this “Garden before time.”
In the beginning everything lived harmoniously in the garden...

I genuinely love everything about black garden sm, like the mysterious and infinite nature behind it is just wonderful, on top of that its a beautiful place that only few can really get to, asphodelia grows forever into tommorow, its basically double edged as when used in tea calms the person but when touching it causes the person to go crazy, i think much like the ground it inhabits its something that goes along with the flow
I like how randomly scrolling i find this d2 lore shorts
Why can't nothing in the Dreaming City be normal?
Next you're going to tell me that air there is 60% light or something
I mean... The water is special because...
Well to be fair it is in the reef
@@rickydoesstuffthe dreaming city is literally the other side of a black hole.
@robbiestafford6889 i believe you're thinking of the Distributory, i.e. pocket dimension the awoken were created in, which is different than the Dreaming City. The Dreaming City, while one of many hidden awoken cities, is still within our plane of existence.
Can I eat the flowers?

Better question, can we turn them into exotics xD
The only thing probably running through the flowers mind is "Oh no, not again".
Ah yes the lore of
A flower
A Timeless Beauty
that’s the type of lore i’m most interested in
I think it's time we do a deep dwelve into the Black Garden and its overall implications on the universe of Destiny.
What if asphodelia is the light analog to agrago? It would have xome interesting potential metaphorical implications if you consider the common plant mycelium symbiosis
Smoky head: I’m old fear me
Big ball: nah I’d old
Flower: flower
Random flower has more lore than Suraya Hawthorne. Bungie give her some love 😭
You're starting to get into Marathon lore.
Thankyou for these!
Holy shit i didnt know this about these flowers
Byf while in a content drought: F L O W E R
Imagine if the Vex fw Asphodelia and they purposefully kept putting it everywhere simply because they liked it.
I'm curious if asphodelia has changed over time via evolution or something even without a lot of selection pressure in the garden you would see mutation and different variants unless it has been kept the same by darkness or is something else entirely
If only we could get the memories of of these flowers to see into the past…
Id pretty much assumed that the black garden is older than the witness, considering that vex can literally control time, and we have seen each of these vex, in each of their era's, in the current era. The precursor vex, the regular vex which are the most common in the game, and the descendant vex. Ive been playing destiny since 2014, so i was there when we played curse of osiris in destiny 2, where we transported through time like in that one strike on mercury.
Isn't it possible that the Vex's time control could also mean the black garden hasn't even been created yet, that it is actually from the future and they have projected it back in time to the present. Also by that logic the flower could also be really young or incredibly ancient, there is no real way to know without having a full deep dive into how the Vex's temporal abilities actually work and if there are any limits to them.
It's an interesting concept but without some solid lore it's all just theory crafting on how it works and how old it is, or if it's even old at all, it could be brand new every time someone goes there.
now it turns out they're just silk flowers
Asphodelia is a quantum entangled lifeform, existing in all places and at all times
This is something I love about Destiny: something as simple as a bush of flowers can have deep lore.
Great, you're telling me i have to learn about precursors in a bungie IP all over again?
Have you done a video explaining what actually know about the black garden like I thought it was just a vex place not having like big significance
D1
This game has so much lore!
The actual, real asphodel flower is the flower associated with death and mourning. The Asphodel fields in the Greek afterlife were part of Elysia where all souls dwelled after death
Would be near if Asphodelia had it's links directly to the Gardner, and thus symbolically represents something older than we can fathom. If the Winnower turns out to be real and our next major antagonist, we could see this represent more of the Flower Game than we initially thought
The Dreaming City exists inside a black hole. That's why Mara Sov has served as the Awoken queen for several billion years even though the Awoken were created during the Collapse only a few thousand years ago. Time works differently there. The fact that Asphodalia exists there means that the Dreaming City is one of the closest planets to a perfect existence in the universe.
Could those be, like a physical representation of the flowers in the flower game?
This is the type of writing that makes it near impossible to go further than this. We need a greater indefference again, now that the Witness is a humanoid with tangible goals.
Not eldritch enough.
a flower before time
Anyone notice arbor warden is a canister of asphodelia
There’s lush caves if you look below it
The final boss is actually just asphodelia
The flowers tell the story
Looks part roadie/camilia/dogwood. Likely blooming in earth’s spring. Well done bungie
As the world ends, you find yourself in a field of flowers. In any other story, you're in heaven or something akin. In destiny, you've come again, to the black garden.
So what you're telling me is that all of the entire Destiny story was caused by a flower 🤣
If something exists outside of time and space, then are those flowers the same as the ones in the world? Can they BE older?
Byf is the vaati vidya of destiny 2
Well we will learn more in TFS
Is plant people gonna be the enemy in Destiny 3?
Dang thats so cool.
Maybe asphodelia are the flowers that are winnowed
The flowers are the next big bad confirmed!!
Is that the same flower that grows on arbor warden?

Flower Lore
What's the bet this flower lives inside the Traveler too?
While this does not pertain to the flowers, I realized some interesting symbology to the curse, as we can see the Taken Blights filling the Reef’s sky. The “eternal war”, that is Guardians and the Awoken have been fighting against the Witness and its minions for centuries now? Riven made a truly unending war for the Awoken. This war with the Witness, and the following power vacuum will most likely end. But the curse of unending war she placed on the Dreaming City? Will very well may never end (still, Guardians have done the impossible before). Riven gave the Awoken their eternal war. Truly eternal.
wow!
Love how Bungie just took the idea behind the Italian Rosalia and its meaning and then the biological and cultural aspects of an Asphodel and used the bare minimum in creativity to create the “asphodelia”.
There a theory or confirmation that the black garden is inside the traveler ? Because I’m willing to wager a large sum of money that it is and the black garden we’ve been to and seen is only a small fraction of it
I think the final shape. Is light dark life death and one big gun
Honestly, with destiny lore is more interesting than the game. It’s like sitting in a library and reading a storybook.
So the pyramid ships are older than the witness?
Can i put it in an exotic?
That's an old plant
Did he say pyramid ship before the witness? Then where did they come from?
i’m probably late to this but… collectors edition lore? you’re telling me we have to pay for the lore too? this game is p2w for both the game fans and the lore fans 😭
First and cool video 👍
You what this means; Artificial Universe or Time Travel.
And it hasn’t evolved drastically so its the perfect plant lifeform (Unless theres an offshoot of it)
Well i always thought the witness and the travelet was just life and death sort of maybe i should cath up on lore
Kinda off topic: ever heard of the twisted garden?
Flower game…?
What the fick is going on, i thought we were just killing aliens for slightly cooler gear
So many questions
hehe, byf said Ass fedelia
The amount of times I've heard of this flower and still don't see why it's important is too high. It's a flower from a place that was moved and grown elsewhere. Maybe it has something to do with the traveler but even if it does.. okay?
I assumed after Asphodelia was mentioned during the Final Shape reveal by you Byf, that it was the flower they reference in "The Flower Game"
Wait so I'm confused how can there be a pyramid ship before the time of the witness when in their origin trailer there literally seen building them unless the traveler had them make which wouldn't make sense when it states the traveler didn't talk to them.
The precursor race built them because they were blessed by the traveler, kinda like how we made Arcadia class jumpships, and colony ships after we were blessed by the traveler (ie the traveler didn’t tell them to make the pyramids, it just gave them the tools to make stuff, like it did with us). The witness was created after they tried to merge traveler with veil the first time. Did you watch any of the recent lore pertaining to the collectors edition lore book? Cause byf, and every lore channel has made multiple vids on them.
ah yes the flower that uldren got infected by taken blight and gave to his sister for attention.....and she planted that flower around the dreaming city....yeahhhhh
God damn-
i will just pee on it once i find it.
Its the first to survive the "game"
Hm plants being ilder than the gardener bit of twist but hey
