Rocker drumming = Working with sticks. Jazz drumming = Stick working for you. Weckl is the best who ever lived in this genre in my opinion. Smoothness unsurpassed, fluidity untouched, feel like no other. The man is superb. My #1 for decades.
Dave's fluidity is second to none. He floats around the kit. He is my biggest influence because I keep coming back to him. So many greats, but Dave is masterful!
Dave is Mt. Everest…reach him and you can be one of the best in the world too. He understands his approach to drumming as well as he understands the music, cues, hits and fills. Only Dave And Virgil Donati currently reside on that mountain top!
Thx for doing Dave breakdown. You can tell you’re professional. Can you do a Dennis Chambers one too (haven’t scrolled your channel yet to see if you already have)? All the best drummers study jazz, whether they are well-known for it or not. Ex: Danny Carey [Tool] is a beast, but what most Tool fans don’t know, is that he is still a student of jazz (still takes lessons, at 59, from ppl that can teach him something). He even sits in with jazz bands a lot.
Thanks for checking out my Drum Breakdown of Dave Weckl! The LEGEND!

Arguably the best in the drumming business. He checks all the boxes.

Do you ever wish Dave Weckl was the drummer for Metallica? I love Lars, but I'd like to hear what that would sound like.
Metallica sucks comparing The type of music Dave Plays
