My first exposure to Dave Weckl was when I was 14 and was given his "Back To Basics" and "The Next Step" VHS tapes. I wore those tapes out devouring every second of the awesomeness that was/is Dave Weckl!
When there is no discrepancy between conception and physicality, you are a Grand Master. Whatever Dave thinks, Dave can play. That is something 99.999% of drummers on earth will never accomplish. To say Dave is astounding would be an insult. This guy is superhuman on drums.
Beautifully said! I believe he and Virgil Donati are truly at the top of drumming as an instrument, a concept and an art form. They’re just otherworldly beings from the planet DRUM
@@マシュードーラン Dave has been my favorite drummer for 40 years. Virgil is on my list of favorites as well, as are drummers like Chris Coleman, Todd Sucherman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Gergo Borlia, Dave Dicsenso and a handful of others. If you aren't familiar with Dave Dicenso, check this out. Dave DiCenso: Drum Solo - Part 2 ua-cam.com/video/wEYuwADCwwk/v-deo.html
@@tortillasarenotbiceps7622Akira Jimbo rounds out my top three so if you haven’t checked him out I’d highly suggest it. If you have then you already know haha
I saw this video years ago when i was first starting to play drums, but now that im older i realize that ill never achieve this level of smoothness, groove, and creativity
So happy you acknowledge him as the GOAT! Virgil Donati and Akira Jimbo are two you should definitely check out if you haven’t. All three are basically around the same age at this point and just absolute monsters! My top three forever!
You should absolutely check out Akira Jimbo and Virgil Donati. The only two I would hold at the level of Dave. They’re three absolute alien drummers and incredible individuals
@@tomgutierrez6098He’s absolutely incredible! Planet X, On The Virg and his recent solo albums are amazing! So inspiring and such a treat for music lovers who want to be challenged and shown what can be achieved with true hard work and dedication. Those three guys are Mt. Everest and very few make it to the peak haha
My favorite drummer. Miss him playing with Chick

Never say never my guy. Nothing is impossible. It Dave years to get to this level of playing.

My No. 1 Drummer of all time, Dennis Chambers is a very close No. 2 : )
Him, Steve Smith and Thomas Lang…..absolute prodigies
Also, notice that his snare has 6 lugs & not 10. They say that the more lugs you have the better…this is a testament to how good Yamaha drums are
Ueah, he's the GOAT , ♥️
Yeah he's the best. I'm a fan, from Bonham to Bellson, but this guy.....He's the GOAT over all the other GOATS.
Agreed!

I´m fãn dave weckl,
The brecker brothers
Fredddie was his teacher. Thanks for the video
I knew it!! I could tell from his drum setup
He's probably thinking about whatever he's doing the next day....oh wait, that would be playing more kick ass drum solos.

Virgil Donati is a monster. I saw him with Alan Holdsworth and Jimmy Haslip about 10 years ago in a small club.
