- I went foraging and found this giant puff ball mushroom. I've dreamt about making a mushroom double cheeseburger from it for months and so when September came here in the UK I decided to have a go. In the film I go out foraging for mushrooms and then return to show you mu mushroom cheese burger recipe. Lemme know what you think below

Wild foraged mushrooms are great. My dad, and my uncles were good at finding them on the farm, and in other places. They were great when they were cooked up. That looks great. Cheers, Chef John. #IncreaseThePeace ✌️

@@davesandford226 We would go out behind my grandparents farm towards the river to search for them. We'd slice them up and fry them like a steak. I'd almost forgotten about them. Nostalgia is wonderful.
I used to just have little ones where I live...then I spread the giants spores.

I just found out about these mushrooms yesterday and now UA-cam's recommending your video. I didn't look them up online or anything, someone else showed me pictures of them. What weird timing. Either way, looks delicious!

I've never seen these mushrooms before. I'd probably run away scared if I ever encountered one though, really surprising that they grow to that size and are edible.
Going puffball hunting tomorrow. I live in Michigan in the states, and its puffball time now! Definitely going to try this.

@@foodbusker I have picked the big one lol .I know from my first experience last year the flesh doesn't hold its firmness and whiteness for long once harvested eaten best the same day or within 3 days max I will offer to share with friends neighbours yet they were highly skeptical last year so I gave to the Chinese takeaway !
Seems a shame to make soup with this magnificent fungi I will slice and saute with a lil oil butter garlic salt and cracked pepper
Thinking now I will then add Fresh chopped chilli and turmeric to half
and make as a Thai curry base I have coconut milk in so that will compliment well .😀
Jus remembering so adding to the story I found out later the Chinese chef recognising the eating quality (it was his first sighting of puffball ) and ate it all that night cooking it up for himself and his staff 😀

Foraging for mushrooms can be a very precarious business. I know an experienced forager who picked the wrong mushroom and now has to have regular dialysis. So be warned.
Absolutely. But Giant Puffballs are, in the UK at least, are one of the safest and most unmistakable fungi to identify. The Golden Rule is if you have any doubt then don't eat it.

Puffballs are pretty easy tho. you want a smooth exterior & white interior. I've done the spiny...but that can be dangerous waters.
Smooth, white w correct root is all you gotta know.
Back in the 80's when I was a wee'un, my dad used to take us out in the autumn to forage sweet chestnuts and puffballs. He was never (and still isn't) the best cook, bless him, so I'd eat the chestnuts on our open fire, but the puffballs... :/ Now I'm older, and I love mushrooms I'm so glad to see an actual recipe using them! I know what I'll be doing over the coming weeks. Thanks, chef!
