Thanks! I've been looking for a budget-friendly alternative to the Wescott Eyelighter. This looks great.

I've used a flat foamboard and it works but I like this idead better, nicely done!

Thank you! I definitely thought about scoring a couple pieces of foamcore so that they would bend to a nice curve, but I didn't want to overcomplicate the build. If the poster board had proven too saggy that was going to be my backup plan, but I found the poster board sat for several days without losing shape so I ran with it.

Brilliant idea for curved reflector. Good way to save $200. Also, if a real silver reflector fits the budget, get it during sales period. I got a silver curved reflector from B&H Photo for less than a $100 USD. Right now they are on sale for as low as $67. USD from B&H Photo online at 20 percent off Black Friday sales. But your idea is even more budget friendly for photographers just starting out and a great idea.

I think the the reflecter also gives a softer light. Very good indeed. Can't seem to get the combat splint type over here. Will keep looking.

Interesting. I would think that would be a readily available item just about anywhere in the world. Alternatively you could get a long piece of 3mm bar stock or a cheap spool of 14ga galvanized wire from B&Q/HomeBase and use that for the frame. It wouldn't be as convenient but it would certainly do the job. Good luck!

I have found some Yaay. Thanks for such a good idea. I did wonder about using a strip of Aluminum, but the splint is more user friendly I think. I have watched several of you videos now and have learnt a fair amount. I enjoy the humor too.

Excellent. Glad it worked out for you, and thanks for the kind words! I try to keep things lighthearted. Photography needn't be so serious.

I bought a (brand-new) windshield sunscreen at a thrift shop for $2.99. Works great and is much more durable than cardstock.

Yes! They used to sell those silver windshield shades at the dollar store, and back when I first concocted this idea that is what I had in mind. Alas, I haven't seen them there lately, so I went with the poster board to try to keep the budget as small as possible. Would definitely recommend trying the shade if you can find one, though.
