I don't see why you couldn't use it outdoors , however, due to the angle of the sun being significantly higher than a strobe in the studio would be, you may not get the same results with the reflections in your subject's eyes. It should work okay for filling in shadows under the chin however (again depending on the Sun's angle). Hope that helps
