    It is a good idea to pray before doing the examination of conscience. Ten years ago I had the grace to have a general confession . All my sins from the age of reason (7-8 years old up to the present time),I was back then 45 years old. I was told by the spiritual director to pray to Mother Mary to show me all my past sins in the light of Jesus. That was the best advice. Took a good week to go over my sins.
    The best part is to confess all of them with sincere heart. Restitutions, reparations and amendments are great way to start fresh with the Lord.
    Ask your guardian angel to protect you always.

    What a wonderful video... I had not gone to confession in several decades it literally took me months to examine my own conscience watching several videos how to go about it...listing everything I could remember and when I got to the confessional last year; I couldn't remember a 1/2 the things I cried the priest said it's OK but for months I felt like I had to redo it... this video makes me feel so much better. I have been back several times this year and it feels wonderful I pay attention to what I'm doing, yes I still do some things I shouldn't buy I stop myself and change course. I'm making it a habit to go on a regular basis it's so much easier and it feels wonderful.

    Before attending the TLM, I didn't know how to properly make a good confession. We just weren't taught in the NO Mass, or from the CCD classes. I knew the basics but that was NOT sufficient. Not according to real Catholic teaching. I thank God 🙏 my eyes have been opened, my conscience has been illumined, enlightened, and my heart open. It's necessary to make a good confession, to do penance and to make reparation, and make a firm purpose of amendment. +

      @Remember Lord Jesus Pray the Rosary remember, do the best that you can. Yes the sin and the # of times. As long as you didn't omit sins on purpose, just confess them the next time you go to confession. Sometimes it's helpful to write them down before hand, but honestly I think we are quite aware of our own sins. Don't dwell too long on the previous confessions. If you weren't taught correctly from the beginning....well now you know and are more consciousess. Always ask your priest for guidance, if you need help. God bless 🙏. +

    I've listened to many youtube postings regarding confession. This is the best one I've heard yet.
    St Pope Pius X said in his catechism that there are 5 elements required of the penitent in order to make a valid confession.
    If lacking in any one of these, your sins are not forgiven.
    1. Perform a sincere examination of conscience. (obtain an Examination of Conscience and slowly and carefully read. Consider that you can sin in action, word or even thought.)
    2. Having true sorrow for your sins; contrition or attrition. (St Augustine said that not even God can forgive your sins if you are not truly sorry.)
    3. Having a firm purpose of amendment: making whatever changes you must, no matter how difficult to avoid the near occasions of sin.
    4. Confessing all your mortal sins. Do not hide any otherwise you commit sacrilege. Nor try to diminish them in any way such as by understating the number.
    5. Perform the penance. We must have the intention of performing the penance the priest assigns otherwise our sins are not forgiven.
    There is a good small booklet by Tan books "Confession Its Fruitful Practice". Get it.
    The best examination of conscience I found after reading over a dozen is the booklet "An Examination of Conscience" by Leaflet Missal Company. This list sins by mortal and venial. However, I believe some of the venial sins they list should be listed as mortal.
    Avoid all sin. It can be done, but it will require you to give up much of what you encounter in this world. Jesus said getting to heaven would be difficult.

    (the following is extracted from the book about prayer by St Alphonsus)
    Scandal is a word or act by which you are the cause or occasion of sin to another.
    A person who commits scandal sins more grievously than the other.
    Scandal is always a mortal sin.
    A person gives scandal by bad example, immodest words before others or by ridicule of those who practice virtue. Parents give scandal by giving bad example, by not correcting their children as they ought, by allowing their children to associate with bad companions, or by allowing their exposure to sinful occasions.
    You must repair the scandal you have given.
    Thus, you are bound to draw those you have scandalized to virtue by words of edification, by good example, by avoiding sinful occasions, by frequenting the sacraments, by going often to church to pray, and by listening to sermons.

    • @jeffapodaca5037
      @jeffapodaca5037 4 роки тому +5

      You must have True Sorrow (Contrition or Attrition)
      St Alfonsosu Ligorouri “sorry for sin is so important that if lacking, not even God can forgive the sin”
      Sorrow must come from the heart and not merely from the lips. It must be from motives of faith and not merely natural motives. Natural motives are things like “I’m sorry because I got caught or got in trouble when committing that sin”. We must hate sin and be willing to endure any suffering rather than offend God in the future by sin. One must have the determination of the will that one wishes he had suffered any positive evil rather than have offended God. This sorrow does not have to be felt with the emotions, but by the will. For example, a drug addict takes drugs because he likes to do it. However, if he has a sincere sorrow for his past uses of drugs, with a firm resolve to never use drugs again, this meets the requirements of sorrow. In addition, we must be sorry for every mortal sin which we may have committed, otherwise none are pardoned. However, if only confessing venial sins, it is enough to have sorrow for only one of them to receive pardon for that venial sin for which you have sorrow. Only venial sins which you have true sorrow for are forgiven.
      Defective Sorrow: This occurs when a sinner feels some regret for his sins, perhaps he will even cry over them, but he remains unwilling to put God first in his life. He lacks a firm purpose of amendment. Example: someone who will not return stolen goods, or will not stop living with a girlfriend or boyfriend, or will not delete porn from his computer, or stop keeping company with a sinful companion, will not abandon drugs or alcohol if a problem, will not stop taking contraceptives, stop watching evil shows on TV or movies. One must sincerely want to avoid sin or the near occasion of sin. A penitent who knowingly confesses sins without true sorrow commits sacrilege.
      Imperfect Contrition (Attrition): The first spark of love for God and has a firm purpose of amendment. The penitent is less moved by love of God and more by the fear of the loss of heaven, or the fear of hell. With attrition, sins are forgiven but can only be forgiven by the sacrament of confession.
      Perfect Contrition: This is when one primarily considers God’s love, although one may still be moved secondarily by a fear of God. Regret for sin is on account of the wrong done to God. Love is the principal motive. With contrition all sin is forgiven at that moment as long as the penitent has the intention of going to confession as soon as possible. But even with perfect contrition, the penitent may not receive holy communion until receiving confession, otherwise he commits a mortal sin of sacrilege. Mortal sins can never be forgiven unless the person has the intention of eventually confessing them in the sacrament of penance. Venial sins can be forgiven without the sacrament of penance as long as the person is in the state of grace and performs a fervent act of love of God.
      God will give you the grace to have true sorrow but you must pray for it: “Oh my God, give me the grace of true repentance, a perfect contrition for my sins”.

    • @Navygrl58
      @Navygrl58 4 роки тому +2

      Therese P Yes, I heard the same. Imperfect contrition is sufficient only within the Sacrament of Confession itself. Outside the Sacrament of Reconciliation a perfect Act of Contrition would have to be said which is pretty close to impossible. Jesus knew that I believe and in His great mercy instituted this wonderful Sacrament. Thank God.

      Sorrow for the consequences counts for nothing. In Confession sorrow for the loss of heaven and the pains of hell is sufficient. Before Confession must have Perfect Contrition: Sorrow for sins because you have offended the all good God. And promise to get to Confession as soon as possible.

    • @jeffapodaca5037
      @jeffapodaca5037 4 роки тому

      Besides performing his penance after confession, the penitent, if he has justly injured another in his goods or reputation, or if he has given him scandal, must as soon as possible, and as far as he is able, restore him his goods, repair his honor, and remedy the scandal. Sins of theft require restitution. You must make financially whole the party which was harmed. If direct restitution is not possible, then donation to a charity with the intention of restitution is sufficient. If direct repair of the honor or scandal is not possible, ask the priest what to do. He may instruct you to say a rosary for that person.

If I could help out with this, I would just tell he priest what happened and what the current situation is right now (“I can’t contact him or her or I don even know if he or she can talk to me anymore”). Like what the video says you have to be discreet. So maybe if it was really really serious then confess your heart out. But it depends who ever gives you the confession. If the priests says to repair then maybe, if the priest said that to me then maybe I have to to be forgiven idk.

      Here's another one: "The redemption won by Christ is superabundant: it atones for ALL sins and extends to every man and woman, Christ gave His Church the power to forgive sins by means of the sacraments of Baptism and Penance, This power is unlimited, that is to say, the Church can pardon all sins of all the baptized as often as they confess their sins with the right disposition, This is the dogma of the faith (sf, Council of Trent, De Paenitentia, Can 1)." Never give up hope. Just keep on persevering and asking God for the Grace to repent of and overcome sin.
