Dealerships are skilled at denying coverage for warranty items -- I think they go to school for it. But their biggest escape is in the line" that is not spelled out for coverage in the warranty". At least Nissan used that line on me. Haven't bought a Nissan since.
It’s not the dealership. The manufacturers are terrible to deal with and deny dealer claims. So lazy dealers it’s easy to tell the customer the manufacturer denied it without fighting the denial. For customer pay they only have the customer to worry about. Dealerships have warranty departments that do nothing but pitch fights with the OEM. The OEM pays under warranty and reimbursed the dealer, so if they deny, the dealer does
I just bought a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE hybrid several weeks ago (June of 2023). On the first tank of gas I babied it for break in and got over 60 mpg. 😅. My last five years I had been driving the Toyota Avalon. For my first 600 miles I have been very impressed with this car. The seating is very comfortable and it handles much better than I expected. I bought the Corolla for its efficiency and reliability and I’m a happy owner.
Excellent choice. As long as you follow Car Care Nut's maintenance advice, it will be a fantastic car for you. Namely, keep the hybrid battery cooling fan filter clean, change oil every 5k miles, 6 months, coolant every 5 years, 60k miles, etc
I've been the proud owner of a 21 corolla hatchback SE for two months now and this is my first car ever and I love the heck out of it. I call it Mr. Hazelnut since it's cute and small. It handles REALLY well for what it is. It's been a nice car to drive and I think I'm gonna keep mine for a really long time.
Never miss an oil and filter change. Avoid dealer "service". Use your own trusted mechanic and you'll have a very durable car. Remember all dealers are crooks. Dealer service everywhere and all makes are not above sabotaging your car. Sounds paranoid? Well, I've been around a long time and have seen a lot.
the best cars are girls, so it should be miss hazelnut, but yeah i want a toyota camry myself, been researching this brand for years now. very durable and reliable cars !!
@wholeNwon Your comment almost confirms my suspension about a "free" oil change I got for my Honda CR-V I had 15 years ago. I took it to the dealer and I think there was one mechanic servicing about 10 cars alone. I waited inside the dealership for about an hour and a half until the oil change was done. I went to a local oil change place the next time and they told me there was no way my oil had been changed the 5,000 miles prior at the dealership with the sludge that had accumulated. Those dealerships are mostly designed to keep the area the vehicles are being serviced invisible to the customer so that you just have to take their word that they did what they said they did to your car.
Thanks for the "water in the door" fix! I had a 2011 corolla and put 300000 miles on it. Not 1 problem ever. I gave it to the salesman who sold me my 2020 corolla. Best cars ever made!
I just helped my oldest boy buy his first car, he just got a new job about 40 miles from home and will be commuting. He decided he liked the styling of the 2021 Corolla SE with the 2.0 for the extra bump in power and fuel economy. I have to admit to being a little jealous every time he comes over.......they've come a long way with the Corolla, just a sharp little car.
Phenomenal!! Now, seeing as you're the Dad, you deserve to be rolling in something even more stylish!!! What do you drive? If nothing nicer, the '24 Corolla SE and the GR Hatchback are both fantastic. I'm also looking at the '24 Honda Civic Hatchback in MT 😃😃😃😃
I have owned 5 straight Corollas. Starting in 2007. Bought new one(s) in 2011 (LE), 2014 (S), 2017 (LE) and my latest - 2023 5-door XSE hatchback. All 5 still in my family. I sell them to my kids for cheap. Hey, I'm a dad! Not one serious problem among all 5. Love the 2.0 Liter in my XSE!

Just got a 2021 Carolla, still under warranty with only 17,000 miles on it, with taxes and everything, it ended up costing me 26,000 dollars, and got it from a local Toyota dealership, drives great, I'm loving it so far.
I just bought a 2022 Corolla Hybrid Sedan replacing 2014 Corolla Sedan - Massive new tech upgrades - New TNGA chassis has many advantages, but lower front will scrape on some driveways so need to take care.
I bought the 2021 Corolla le in May and it smells like oil at start up. Also when it rains the mirrors and windows have horrible visibility. I was driving a 2006 Lexus 330 so maybe it's a downgrade in the type of glass. I would not buy this car again.
Both my daughters have had great experiences with their Corollas. Good basic, reliable cars. I’m a Camry and Avalon driver. Been fairly happy, but they are not too exciting to drive. The Corolla has really updated the safety features and increased cabin space.
Thanx for this great video. It helped me decide between 2022 Civic and 2022 Corolla SE. I purchased the Corolla SE. The selling point for me was the engine, M20A-FKS. Can not go wrong with it, good power when needed, no carbon buildup, great on gas. I followed your advise and did my 1st oil change after the 1000 miles break in period. This is a good point A to B vehicle. Drives good, very comfortable, priced right. Maybe if we stop trying to compare it with other, twice the price, performance sport cars we appreciate what Corolla has to offer.
I use the Corolla hybrid for driver education. Outstanding fuel economy along with the legendary Toyota reliability makes this vehicle a must have in my industry. Students love it.
I leased my Toyota Corolla and lease ended so I bought it only have 5600 mikes. So it was a no brained for me I’m 82. And love my Corolla. And thank you for your wonderful video
My wife and I bought 2 new Corolla's. Shes got the 2022 LE and me the SE. Her's has 40k miles now and mines at 18k. No issues at all and even thought shes got the 1.8L and i'm the 2.0L we both get exactly 40mpg at all times. We don't regret the non hybrid versions at all.
my wife got 2022 rav4 xle hybrid. super nice for her driving style and i feel safe knowing she is in it. i got a base 2023 corolla hatchback. we absolutely love them. already doing my own oil changes on them and what is great is they both take the same oil, oil filter and almost the same amount at just under 5 quarts. i ordered in bulk and am ready to go for years.
I'm pretty happy with mine. Safe, economical, confortable and reliable, everything I wanted. Also I think Toyota got the perfect balance between confort and dynamic driving. It's not at all a sports car but it handles itself nicely on a twisty road. It's a bit noisy on the highway as you say but I wouldn't have bought a hybrid if I drove in the highway too much. It's really what you say, a pretty honest and overall very good everyday car. I haven't found any aspect in which to say it's bad.
@@2004cyrus not THE most confortable, but pretty confortable, specially when comparing with previous models. Be aware I have the standard seats (that are already pretty nice) but there are others available that i haven't tested.
@@2004cyrusin my opinion the seats in the 2019 SE model are actually much better than the seats on the 2024 XSE model. I feel like somethings definitely got cheaped out on during/after the so-called "pandemic" era and with Toyota the pre-pandemic seats were designed much better. However the new ones have electric driver seat adjustments and now come with heaters at least in the latest refresh of HB XSE models.
@@Bigdaddyschnooks the savings you have on fuel are at lower speeds and small accelarations so mainly driving in town. Plus with Higher accelarations it's a bit noisy and not so pleasing while in town at lower speeds and accelarations you use The electric engine more so more quiet.

Agree. He makes a good point that all the new tech does NOT reduce simplicity or maintainability. I just bought a 2022 Hybrid Sedan replacing wonderful 2014 Corolla Sedan - Love it.
I got my LE two Fridays ago from today. I really like it because it fits my needs and lifestyle I do for meantime. Eventually, i want to upgrade for better features. This video never made me feel I regret purchasing the car that I drive now. I appreciate your honesty and knowledge
I think I know why they made the steering feel so light. It helps the feedback from the lane assist system come through without being too intrusive. If the wheel was heavier they'd have had to make the steer assist nudging heavier and more prominent.
The Corolla has always had lighter steering. A big part is it’s electric which is inherently light. I swapped continental tires onto my car and it really helped the steering and handling.
Purchased my daughter a gently used 2009 and it was the best car ever. Never one issue other than the battery replaced. She would still have it if a crazy person didn’t hit her head on at a stop sign. I’m purchasing a 2022 this year as my daily driver. Can’t go wrong with Toyota or Lexus.
I live in Puerto Rico. Here we have a 1.8l L model. That is the basic model an it's a manual. I have one and I'm averaging 34.4 mpg overall. It will not win any races but right now it great for transportation. The chassis is really great and thats something that took me by surprise coming from previous Subarus. Overall it's a great car.
For people out there who are curious about the e-CVT, AMD actually talks about one in his previous videos (How Toyota Hybrid System Work Part 3 Hybrid Transmission). I used to have trouble envisioning it until after that video and others like it, and it's just pure genius how Toyota came up with it, especially the part where MG2 powers the vehicle in cases where the gas engine would be too inefficient (ie. getting the car moving off the line), and where MG1 and MG2 are harvesting as much mechanical action as possible and turning that into electricity to recharge the battery.
I drove the 2 models of the latest Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid a few days ago on a test drive along various terrains eg highways, urban and narrow hilly roads. Honestly, I now understand and appreciate the complaints by many about the continuous droning noise when the engine kicks in. I was so hoping the the eCVT would have sorted that droning noise, I did. The Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid was even louder than the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Then I drove the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Phev, that droning noise wasn’t there at all, no such droning even though there’s a slight noise not as audible as the Toyota - a difference transmission systems altogether. I was pleased, to say the least.
There’s also two other common problem’s with 2020 Corolla’s. The electronic parking brake actuator’s squeal like a squeaky door really loud after time every time you put the vehicle in park, just like the RAV 4’s. Also there is an issue with a part called a electronic coolant bypass valve that starts leaking and shorts out the electrical inside it on these and RAV 4’s. He knows what I’m talking about, I’m sure. I just replaced mine at 90K. Don’t pay $600 for a dealer to do it you can do it yourself for about $150. It lives behind the battery near the engine. It WILL NOT throw a check engine light. It will only say engine maintenance required see dealer. This also shows up on RAV4’s In the message center on the dash and on the infotainment system.
I’ve got a 2021 Corolla Hybrid since March and it giving me 4.1 litres for 100 km, great gas mileage it converts to 57 miles per gallon! And I found it’s the best deal compared to Prius as the price and the interest rate that you have to pay!
Car and Driver magazine, Oct 2021 issue, pg 51, they did a sound test on all the compact cars. Corolla scored the highest decibel (the loudest) on idle and 70 mph cruising.
Thank you for another great video! I have a 2020 SE sedan, and my wife has 2021 XSE hatchback and we both love our cars. I just removed all the drain plugs in all the doors so that rain water can easily run out.
I've driven new Corolla multiplex times as a rental and while not thrilling it handles quite well and is pretty quiet around town as well. I drive 2019 RAV4 hybrid with ECVT and find the electric assist makes it quite peppy in town (and off the line). ECVT is also very smooth, especially when towing my tiny camper on the highway.
I agree 99% with what you said! but you was mostly covering a lesser trim model. All models are GRREAT depending on personal needs... Corolla is a great car! I just paid off my 2021 SE! Thank you man!
I test drove one earlier in the summer and I really liked it. I found it more comfortable than the Camry hybrid. How many miles do you get on a tank of gas?
Just bought a 2022 Corolla hybrid and absolutely loving this car. Plush ride, ultra quiet, no insane rattles ever like my previous Tesla… This car has been the first car that I actually really want to keep and if I want something “fun” I’ll find another car (that’s cheap) on offer up and pay cash like I just did with my Corolla.
I got a 2022 corolla hybrid also. Love the car in everyway.... ecxept the seats!! ( manual) i think its extremely uncomfortable. Hoping it gets better as i break it in. 2 months in and over 10,600 miles😳
So are you saying the road noise to interior cabin is ultra quiet or just the engine ? And how is it at higher speeds on interstates ? I have seen several reviews on 2021 models that have rated high road noise...??? I have a 2010 corolla sport that is pretty darn quite on roads at both low and high speeds and rides smooth as well.

Just got my 2021 hatchback SE upgrade three weeks ago. I am loving it. Its speedy enough. Love driving thru corners. Very easy to park anywhere in downtown. I traded my 2017 Buick Regal on a SE Trim level Corolla, there is very very little I miss about my old Buick. The Buick was loaded , and I really don't miss much at all. I don't miss paying $75 a week for gas, the Corolla only has 555 miles and I am seeing 38 MPG. Pretty comfortable, rides as good or in some instances better than my Buick did. I would not hesitate to buy this car again. This Corolla marks my 21st new car and is quite possibly the best all around car I have ever owned.
Agreed. Corolla is a basic vehicle with legendary reliability. The new 2023 models do kick it up a notch so they made it more fun to drive. Still, it won’t outpace the Honda Civic or Mazda 3, but again, the Corolla maintains their reliability and longevity status.
"it won’t outpace the Honda Civic or Mazda 3" Ahaha, LOL Toyota Corolla currently outsells the Honda Civic and Mazda 3 with 222,216 vehicles sold this year. The Honda Civic this year sold 133,932 vehicles this year and the Mazda 3 this year sold 27,767 vehicles this year. "it won’t outpace the Honda Civic or Mazda 3"...
Mazda 3 is more a driver’s car, corolla is less about pleasure of driving, more about economy and practicality. Both good cars, just different priorities. Sales show that people prefer Toyotas
2:22 I am interested in the deep dive of the m20a-fks. To be fair you did a deep dive for the camry a25a-fks not too long ago and i really liked that video 👍🏾 and pretty much both engines are the same, but it would be nice just to focus on the Corolla’s as I own a 2020 se manual. Would really be helpful
The fact that u can afford to buy a reliable, nice looking, toyota car pack with of all kind of safety technology should be exciting, I remember driving an old vw beetle with no AC , no Abs, no airbags, 50 Hp, no hydraulic steering wheel, no radio, no led lights, manual transmission ….. despite all that we appreciated the service the car provided to us, now that I have a corolla I love it, people is getting way too picky these days
I have been using corolla since 2006. I recently bought the 2022 model SE trim. Its very impressive model as it gives lots of safety measures. It tells if theres a car behind you before you change the lane. The semi auto pilot mode is impressive. Its perfect (or semi perfect) for daily commuters. The BIGGEST problem that I face while commuting in this car is: - It does not have space where we can keep store our keys, coins. I know there is a glove is box, but thats at the passenger side. The only storage at driver's side is the sidebox. The sidebox does not have enough space. its shallow and I dont want to store my house keys / store keys in there. Surprisingly the older toyota models of same trim level has some space on driver's side as well where driver can store keys and coins. - The second problem is, since I drive this car every single day and I shouldve thought about this before I bought this car was, there is no space to store my sunglasses. I cant store my sunglasses at passenger's side. They MUST have provided some storage where driver can store sunglasses, keys, coins etc. - I know its commuter car, and they have upgraded massively and provided us all those safety measures, semi auto pilot, bigger touch screen and what not, BUT yes when I sit in this car I find the material that they used , e.g. dashboard, space around cvt box, space beneath the seat, is very cheap. I feel like I am driving a uber or some taxi but not a personal car (not that big deal but just saying) - The good things are , its really good on gas. There is a moon roof, safety protocols, big screen for navigation and radio (so cool i love it), buttons on steering. But if you compare same trim level to Honda, we have it all. But then problem with Honda (with a same trim level) is bit poor on gas and comparatively less reliable than toyota - I request toyota car designer if they could please provide some nice little storage where driver can keep her/his some keys, sunglasses, coins would be a great on upcoming design. Much appreciate for reading this. _/\_
I don't know why they don't come standard with sun/eyeglass holders. The previous model was also missing that feature. But the latest models at least have somewhere to place your phone [wireless charging pad] that I've been doubling up as a glasses holder since my phone doesn't charge wirelessly. Also the previous generation had a much better center console design. This new one that I have in the '24 HB is atrociously tiny. It's just big enough to hold a roll of toilet paper, that's it!
I agree I still own 2005 Corolla and 22 SE model. I purchased sunglass holder for visors (Amazon) that uses a magnet to hold sunglasses, and the clip is thicker to fit on visor. I ended up placing keys on rear floor as there is no space to store them with a passenger in front. I thought of using a waste basket hanging on head rest portion of seat to hold keys too. I don't want center console to get scratched up. Below radio is spot for my phone, not big enough for keys anyways.
I drove Corollas my whole life. I just traded my ‘09 Corolla & bought the ‘21 RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid. I don’t think I can go back to a sedan. Love the RAV4.
@@rightlanehog3151 , thanks. I LOVE my new 🚙. Just bought it on the 31st of July. I had to wait 3 months for my order. Plus, I LOVE all the space. Even the back seats are super spacious. I got the Softex seats, too, so it feels luxurious and I feel so spoiled.
@@kaleimaile I recommended the RAV4 Hybrid to my neighbor a few months ago and she is thrilled with it. Your old Corolla was a fine car but your RAV4 Hybrid has more space, comfort and power while offering AWD. Did I mention the upgrade in mpg?
Agreed on everything on the video. Great info on the TSB on water sloshing around. I did pull a plug on bottom door recently and saw a bunch of water pooling out. Will pull a plug on each door now. As a 2020 SE 6 speed owner. Agreed on lots of wind noise at highway noise but tolerable w radio on and knowing its an A to B car that has enough comfort features to make the daily commute enjoyable. One thing to note, on the manual SE sedan Corollas. The one main safety feature is blind spot monitoring on the mirrors. Its been omitted completely. Thought that was an interesting omission. The lane change assist, automatic braking, etc are all still there. My guess is Toyota may be saving a few $$$ and or believing maybe manual drivers will be more active in looking over shoulders for their blind spots. The other thing that sold me is the initial turn in into corners and rear independent suspension for this generation Corolla. It actually has a sporty planted feel on the SE/XSE models through transition turns or entering into a street. So far in over 25000 miles. Trouble free! Also worth mentioning is the Corolla manuals are the cheapest cars brand new that come with rev matching button iMT. This button replaces the sport button on the CVT corollas.
Great video, thanks. Bought my daughter a 2022 Corolla hybrid a couple of months ago. Fantastic car for the money. Performed a break in oil change after about 690 miles. Pleasantly surprised to find that our Corolla was also made in Japan. She's averaging about 55 MPG with mostly highway and some city use. Would definitely buy another Corolla again.
I picked up a 2024 Corolla SE Hybrid and I am very impressed. It’s exactly what I was looking for in a car. I live in California and the gas prices are insane.
I love my Corolla. Drove my 2010 until almost 300,000k miles with one alternator change until someone wrecked into me and totaled the car. Bought the 2022 SE Nightshade in November of 2022 and its been great so far.
Good to know about the plugs on the door. I was washing my 21 apex and after the wash i noticed water slushing around. I'll "pull the plug" when i get home!
I drive a 2020 SE (auto) and I came from a 2016 VW GTI (manual). Honestly the best feeling making that transition comes from the peace of mind of having a truly reliable vehicle that’s not expensive to fix. The car handles much better than I would’ve given it credit for. Rear independent suspension helps a lot.

Thank you brother! I was commenting and asking for a Corolla vid for a while lol. I have a brand new LE. I wanted the SE but they only had it in the blue crush metallic color and I NEEDED a car that day… oh well. I love the the car. My 23 year old Corolla is still going strong. Everything still works perfectly. I change the oil myself . My local Toyota dealer does the rest. Win Win. New Corollas are expensive in Australia too. Entry level Corolla Ascent Sport $30000 AUD.
I am a new-(ish) owner of a 2020 Corolla SE, 2.0L, 6MT. I bought it used with 18k back in march, and since then have put 12k and am at 30k. My previous car was an 07 S, 5MT. I was hit by another car, so I had to buy a new one. As much as I liked the 07, I don't miss it. The 2020 handles amazing, and the car is fun as heck to drive. The gas mileage is better than advertised, where I can get anywhere from 45-49mpg at 55 mph. The seats are stupid comfy, and I do not regret the buy one bit. I got mine black with grey trim, and(not gonna lie here) can't shut up about it. The engine/transmission combo gives me excellent highway passing power, and the suspension is soft enough for a comfy ride, but firm enough to take corners like a champ. In short, it's an amazing car. In my opinion, Toyota knocked it out of the park with this one.
Great stuff as always. Your reviews on Corolla are top notch👌.Where I stay the Corolla is the biggest sedan on sale from Toyota besides for smaller models, MPVs bakkies, combis and trucks. We also have the diesel engine version of it called D4D. I must say it's not an entry model. They also have a way of recycling the previous generation models and call them Corolla Quest. Its about being cheaper but they also strip it of some accessories to keep the price lower. They are bought mostly by rental companies and end up used as uber taxis and the likes.
Love your honest reviews about honest cars. I own a Corolla hybrid, everything you said is bang on nothing more nothing less. It is a great driving car with a big noise ( as you mentioned) problem. My only other concern is the Tyre width (195) on hybrid compared to (205) on gasoline only. I changed it to 205 and it makes a big difference. Once again great review, keep it up.
Simple answer: Yes! I bought the 2020 Corolla Hatchback around this time last year and love it. Despite being only one class up, it’s such a large improvement over my old 2008 Yaris Hatchback that I had for a decade. More power, space, tech, and better fuel efficiency. Plus it looks amazing in the Midnight Black Metallic paint that sparkles and looks like outer space in the sunlight. I did tons of research and considered others like the Civic and Mazda 3, but my Corolla was the only one on the lot at the time and I had to buy it up fast when my Yaris needed ~$1500 to pass annual inspection. I only wish the Hybrid Hatchback was available in the US, otherwise it’s near perfect!
Have a 2019 corolla SE, automatic, 1.8 litter, 70,000 miles, expenses in this car so far are oil changes and air filters , car drives like the day came out the dealer with 9 mikes in the odo.. not bad for an economy car getting 38mpg combined I am personally very happy with it, Im sure u will be too if u get one
I find it interesting-Canada has different model options. I’m a “month” away from getting my new 2022 LM corolla, manual 1.8L. I basically didn’t want any fancy features, but wanted a manual transmission. (And my last vehicle is a 1991 model, so this base model really feels fancy!) Very pumped to get this car, and have a reliable, enjoyable well maintained car. It’s gonna be the first car I own from new, and I can’t wait to take maintenance to the next level
I bought a used 2014 Corolla L with the 4-speed Automatic and 77k miles, 2 years ago (from a Toyota dealer). A couple days after I bought the Corolla, it was upshifting very hard when going up hills, at highway speeds. It's the kind of hard upshift that you know will eventually cause an expensive repair. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from, but they were never able to diagnose the problem. The problem would go away temporarily if I disconnected the battery for a few minutes. Last year I took it to another Toyota dealer garage and they reset the computer. A month later I flushed the transmission fluid several times until the fluid came out clean. The problem has not come back yet. I read through a forum that said there is a module under the transmission pan that needs to be replaced if this problem happens. The forum said this is somewhat common for 2011-2013 Corollas with the 4-speed automatic.... and the 2014 L model has the same setup as the previous body style. I was very mad about this issue and I would have never bought that Corolla if I knew this was going to happen. In fact, I spent a good 2 months researching which Toyotas were the best to buy before I bought this car. I asked the dealer if they would take the car back and exchange it for another car, and they basically told me no. There really needs to be a 2 week exchange clause because this isn't the first time I've bought a card from a reputable dealer that had a major issue.
Enjoyable and very informative video, been thinking of changing from my Citroen to a Toyota Corolla and currently doing research which usually takes me 6 months or longer. You make things a lot easier with your straight forward review/information. Cars in Scotland are expensive(31.5k dollars for a Corolla Icon 1.8 VVT -i Hybrid) so you don't want to make a mistake. Glad I found your channel, keep up the good work.
You know whats exciting about my 2020 Toyota Hybrid? 61.6 MPG in the center of the speedometer !!! I also only get on the freeway maybe once a month. If I had more highway miles I sure it would be more. I also love the simi-self driving on the highway. Set the cruse control and it even applies the brakes to slow down when needed. Just make sure you keep your hands on the wheel and be ready to use the brakes if needed. I had the water in the doors issue once and had to take it into the shop about a year after purchase. But we had downpour raining everyday for over a week when it happened.
Highway driving should actually be less MPG - It sounds counterintuitive, but Hybrids gain more regenerative power in urban stop/start drivings. Agree with your important point about ease of highway driving - with caution of keeping hands on wheel and ready to apply brakes.
Watched this video 6X, really wanted a new Corolla,5 dealerships had NONE,with all allotments taken, in addition they all added the “FLUFF” $1400, dealer fee, which I will not pay. Started looking around, and CARVANA had a 2020 LE with 17,00 miles for $1985 + tax ,Title , registration The same car this Morning with 21K is $28,994 + Tax, Title, Registration. That’s how much CARVANA has increased prices. Well 3 months ago I bought the 2020 Corolla, out the door was $2420.00, couldn’t be happier! It is a true GEM of a car, in ECO mode ( I LOVE TO HYPER-MILE) IN City/32 HWY/ 42 ,Put some CONTINENTAL Tires On it and cut the noise by 2/3, (Still had the original EOM tires ), I love this car!
Just bought corolla touring sports 1.8 hybrid. What an fantastic car, economy, handling, features, perfect for everyday use. How many miles you reckon I can get out from this? I never want to give it up.
We bought the 22 hybrid for our commuter. Love it. very affordable. Out the door under $27K with the extended warranty and prepaid service. We didn't want a prius and got tired of waiting for the RAV4 Prime to become available so grabbed this. Expect it to be very reliable long term. A nice basic simple interior. Sure it could be quieter but not a big concern. peppy enough on the freeway. We planned on using our Highlander for longer trips but this is quite comfortable. One problem is the front end is so low we scrape the bumper on steep driveways. Previous car was a 1990 protege.
I bought a 2013 Corolla (1.8 bolted to a real transmission) and a 2016 Sienna (V6 bolted to a real 6 speed tranni) with the lowest miles i could find !
it would be interesting if you could make a video on the main differences between a regular CVT and an E-CVT. Also, a video comparing maintenance/utilization costs, overall reliability of hybrid and non-hybrid models would be interesting! Thank you for all the great work that you do!

Awesome info!!! I love my 2016 Corolla LE. I bought it with 39.000 miles. I love how it drives on eco or Sport mode. I will change the transmission fluid once I hit 60.000 thousand miles. Definitely.
6:00 Most important thing said in this video! The vast majority of car buyers AND automotive publications still DO NOT understand this fact 20 years after the Toyota hybrid drive went on sale!
I purchased a 21 Corolla hybrid.. Love the gas mileage and hybrid tech. A no nonsense car.. Love it so much, purchased a 22 Sienna for the wife and kids. Thanks for making these videos AMD..
What a great video 😃 I just bought a 2019 hatchback xse, I love it! Yes and I agree it doesn’t drive like a race car, because it’s not, I’m very happy with how it handles, love the gas mileage, it’s very comfortable and looks great. Thanks again for such an informative video. 👍👍👍
I have 2022 Corolla Hybrid Sedan - Yes, I love this video - very honest and good assessment of what Corolla is an is not. The change in 2020 was big. Changes since then are minor.
AMD......your videos make me want to run out and get a new Toyota, but the problem is, I currently have two Toyotas and they are both running great. So I guess I’ll wait several more years to buy a new Toyota and even then I may wait several more after that depending on how the car’s condition is at that time lol
Just last week, we bought our first Toyota: a 2017 Corolla LE. It only had 8000 miles on it! Pickings were slim, and we felt lucky to come across it. Perhaps the cvt is a little annoying, and the steering feels heavy, but the car has been amazing so far. It’s not a luxury sedan, but it has Bluetooth, so it’s al good.
Love this comment as I’m about to trade in my 2017 Corolla LE (got it around 2 years ago at 30,000, now it’s touching 140,000 and still has 13k is positive equity) for the 2022 Hatchback SE Manual. You have to order them and pay the shipping fee, so I’m still waiting and about to hit the first month of waiting. I honestly didn’t know I had the cvt!! And the steering is heavy but it’s not crazy heavy… I prefer heavy but I guess I’ll get over it.
@@TheBadioo I thought the steering was quite heavy for such a small car, but it’s seriously a minor gripe. Here we are, a year on, and we’re knocking on 20k miles. We take it everywhere, it’s a brilliant little plain car.
@@metallikat05 I’m going to miss her. I definitely treated her nice, and even though I added 100k mikes in basically a year I would say she drives better if anything.
Have to disagree with you about the fun that I discovered in driving my Corolla. Turning radius - great; weight distribution - great; low to the ground so it feels as if you are driving a race car. Took my SE hatchback to Watkins Glen International for 4 laps. Got up to almost 90 on straight aways & it hugged the curves like nobody’s business. Even when I hit the speed strip when I took curves, it did not shimmy but stayed on course. I was shocked & amazed as was the lead car, who I matched speed with. He gave me a thumbs up at the end of the four laps.
That is great to hear - I have also found it is way more fun that I expected. AMD's point is still valid that it is a good honest car not trying to be a Maserati.
It's all about the low center of gravity that's been engineered into all TNGA cars. This means they corner very flat without the need for stiff suspension. I love the way it drives 👍
Yes, the clutch pedal noise is something you live with. Not an issue, just a little sqeak when pressing on the clutch. I have a 2011 Yaris with 255k miles and no problem.
Almost bought the Corolla SE Sedan but after driving the Camry SE I decided the later was more comfortable and more room of course. Surprisingly the gas mileage of both cars are quite similar despite the Camry having a bigger engine and weighs more. As always great video AMD!!!
2019 SE sedan here. Previous car was an a4 avant that i drove for 3yr 11mo 3wk before it threw a connecting rod and destroyed itself. Sure the a4 was a monster in the snow, and a laser on the interstates through the rockies…but i love my corolla so much more. The audi was always a black cloud over me. And while the corolla isn’t a ferrari it is indeed a joy to drive. It is intended to do the job as you said, but it far too often gets poo-poo’ed because it’s unapologetically economical. And it is *very* economical in every sense lol. This is a car i will never sell or give away. It’s a rare gem that’s intended to be maintained by the owner. And that’s in short supply these days.
Thank you a lot for the tips! Last week, I purchased my first Toyota car...A 2021 Yaris 1,5 Hybrid (Dynamic Edition in Netherlands) and you help me a lot to understand better the Hybrid system. I guess is pretty difficult to find and review a Toyota Yaris in the US...
We have lost the Yaris but hopefully it will come back some day. The fuel efficiency of the new model is outstanding. Did you know they sell an AWD Yaris Hybrid in Japan?
@@rightlanehog3151 I was not aware of that! It sounds interesting and weird at the same time, to have AWD on a Hybrid Yaris. I think that the GR version might be AWD, but this needed in such a powerful version. Regarding the fuel efficiency is indeed outstanding, since at the moment I am driving with an average 100-110km per hour, with the average consumption to land around 4lt/100km. Its amazing how many technological gadgets this version has...
@@athanasiossamalekis1665 That Japanese Yaris AWD Hybrid also offers independent rear suspension to improve the ride quality. For the record, they also sell an AWD Corolla Hybrid hatch and Touring Sports in Japan. I think this is odd because Europe has a lot more bad weather than Japan. For a small CUV, the new Yaris Cross also provides incredible fuel efficiency. The smallest Toyota Hybrids on sale over here are the Prius with FWD or AWD and the FWD Corolla sedan. For several years we had the Prius c which was very similar to a Yaris Hybrid but it is gone.
@@rightlanehog3151 I had a look at Yaris Cross in the dealership. It did not feel as "Yaris" at all, sitting in the car . My father also plans to order a corolla 1,8L Hybrid Hatchback, Active-Plus version. In Europe, with the gas prices around 2 Euro per liter, driving a Hybrid or Electric car is the best solution.
@@athanasiossamalekis1665 I think we are more likely to see the Yaris Cross come to North America than the Yaris hatchback as CUV sales are an incredibly high portion of the market especially in the USA. If I was buying in Europe today I would choose the Corolla Touring Sports (1.8 Hybrid) over the hatchback, the TS offers more rear passenger leg room (equivalent to the earlier Avensis) and much more cargo capacity while providing the same fuel economy as the hatch. In my part of Canada gasoline is around $1.45 per litre which is an all time record. I will let you do the conversion from Canadian dollars to euros as an informal research project. ;-)
I had a 2012 Corolla as a rental car one time it was fairly comfortable great on gas and still for all that simple of a car when I stepped on the pedal it got up to speed fairly decently for what it was. I've always been a fan of them.
I rented a 1.8 Corolla (Gas) and was pleasantly surprised with the power heading over Donner Summit in the Lake Tahoe region. So much for thinking I need to purchase an SE.

My dealer can find a dozen reasons not to fix something under warranty but they can find a dozen things to fix as soon as the warranty goes out
It’s called stealership for a reason! 😂
@@lukesmith981 time for Amazon to start selling cars!
Dealerships are skilled at denying coverage for warranty items -- I think they go to school for it. But their biggest escape is in the line" that is not spelled out for coverage in the warranty". At least Nissan used that line on me. Haven't bought a Nissan since.
You need a lawyer to read these dealership contracts.

Enjoying my 2022 corolla LE as my first car. Not luxurious but I'm not complaining. Has everything I need and a decent MPG.
I think I know why they made the steering feel so light. It helps the feedback from the lane assist system come through without being too intrusive. If the wheel was heavier they'd have had to make the steer assist nudging heavier and more prominent.
That's true
That’s not true…
I'd rather have stiffer steering like the previous generation. These knew wheels are extremely light.
Weber State auto tech has a good video on the eCVT, where they actually show you the two electric motors spinning.
I second this. I watched Weber's video on the ECVT and it's absolutely mind-blowing how genius it is.
Your going to learn more as the miles climb higher in my opinion.
I’ve got a 2021 Corolla Hybrid since March and it giving me 4.1 litres for 100 km, great gas mileage it converts to 57 miles per gallon! And I found it’s the best deal compared to Prius as the price and the interest rate that you have to pay!

The BIGGEST problem that I face while commuting in this car is:
- It does not have space where we can keep store our keys, coins.
I feel like I am driving a uber or some taxi but not a personal car (not that big deal but just saying)
- The good things are , its really good on gas. There is a moon roof, safety protocols, big screen for navigation and radio (so cool i love it), buttons on steering. But if you compare same trim level to Honda, we have it all. But then problem with Honda (with a same trim level) is bit poor on gas and comparatively less reliable than toyota
- I request toyota car designer if they could please provide some nice little storage where driver can keep her/his some keys, sunglasses, coins would be a great on upcoming design.
Hi AMD, when the corolla cross gets released, I would love a review on the vehicle from a technical point of view. Keep up the great work.
Same and like is it more corolla or RAV4 inside?
That is coming very soon I hope
@@TheCarCareNut Looking forward to the review! Keep up the amazing work.
I drove Corollas my whole life. I just traded my ‘09 Corolla & bought the ‘21 RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid. I don’t think I can go back to a sedan. Love the RAV4.
I think you made the right choice, that RAV4 Hybrid is more practical and much easier to enter and exit.

Oh shit. I need this car lol
Lucky daughter!
55mpg with the cost of fuel right now sounds real nice
Good to hear that.
Buy your god child a 2022 toyota corolla ME…👻👻👻
I picked up a 2024 Corolla SE Hybrid and I am very impressed. It’s exactly what I was looking for in a car. I live in California and the gas prices are insane.
California prices are higher than the US national average, but low compared to Canada and most other countries.....
I love this guy's honestly 👌👍
Not just honestly but in depth knowledge of the brand as well. Great job!
I love that Toyota allows him to speak freely ✊🏼
He knows if he was a liar, nobody would watch him 😅
@@sn5837 I wondered about that. I think he's a little hard on it. I don't think it's as rough around the edges as he says.
The Corolla and Prius seems like a half baked TNGA cars. Get the Camry or RAV4.
How's the acceleration? I'm considering trading in my 2017 Corolla LE for a 2022 Toyota Corolla SE (auto).

My 23 year old Corolla is still going strong. Everything still works perfectly. I change the oil myself . My local Toyota dealer does the rest. Win Win. New Corollas are expensive in Australia too. Entry level Corolla Ascent Sport $30000 AUD.
Great and Congratulations ! ...am curious to know if your corolla is automatic transmission or manual as well as the total mileage on it ?
@@bobbyyounger7632 My Corolla is manual. $88000 kms on the clock from new. Oil change every six months. Still looks and drives like new.
Great review! I would like to hear your thoughts on more Toyotas!
Yes, buy it. I didn’t even bother looking at the video and can tell you to buy it. It’s only probably the most reliable car out there.
Do they still make a Yaris?
@@senseofstile You can buy older/used ones, but I believe they stopped making new ones last year.

I am personally very happy with it, Im sure u will be too if u get one
I find it interesting-Canada has different model options. I’m a “month” away from getting my new 2022 LM corolla, manual 1.8L. I basically didn’t want any fancy features, but wanted a manual transmission. (And my last vehicle is a 1991 model, so this base model really feels fancy!) Very pumped to get this car, and have a reliable, enjoyable well maintained car. It’s gonna be the first car I own from new, and I can’t wait to take maintenance to the next level
The nice thing with a manual 1.8 engine, means it doesn’t have valvematic
Thank you for this video!!!! The dealership wanted a stupid amount of money for the water-in-the-door issue.
This is a fantastic monologue. Speaking off the cuff, spontaneously. I've driven this vehicle several times; quite competent for what it is.
Love your very honest opinion on this car... Keep it up...

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. These Toyota videos from a an honest expert are super valuable to owners.

I will let you do the conversion from Canadian dollars to euros as an informal research project. ;-)
