By 1978, Buddy Holly was pretty much forgotten about and this movie did introduce his music to a new generation. Busey also played his own guitar in the movie. Even though the end of his story is well known, as its shown in the film, its a brutal slap across the face. 'See ya'all Next Year'...freeze frame. Crawl explaining why noone would. I read a lot of sniping comments about , oh anachronistic equipment, and the many errors in the story, but what this film gets absolutely right is what Rock And Roll was at that moment in time. it wasn't perfect. musicians were feeling their way through. The audio mixes were muddy, because that's the way they would have been then. Don Stroud comes in on the off beat at the beginning of ' Oh Boy' in the Apollo Sequence but correcting himself, nervousness. This film captures the spirit of what rock and roll was then, and that alone makes it memorable.

That’s a very astute observation. And if that movie was made more recently I’d say that the prop department really dropped the ball. But considering that this movie was made in 1978 I think we can cut them some slack. Since Stratocasters had only existed for 24 yes’s at that point, the concept of vintage guitars and vintage guitar experts almost didn’t exist at that time. Even Norms Rare Guitars had only been around for three years when this movie was made. So there wouldn’t have been many ‘experts’ the prop department could have approached. But yeah, now that you’ve pointed it out it’s going to annoy me from now on.

Buddy never opened for Elvis. Elvis just happened to be on the Louisiana Hayride with Buddy. Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Buddy Knox and several other stars. Elvis was still under contract with Sam Phillips at the time. His contract with RCA was bought from Sun Records in 1956. This show was in 1955. Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent had just appeared in The Girl Can't Help It which was released in 1956. So actually, Elvis never "predated" anyone. Eddie's 20 Flight Rock was on the charts as well as Gene's Be Boppa Lula in 1956 . Elvis had been doing rockabilly songs for about a year but Bill Haley hit with Rock Around The Clock in 1954-55 . Elvis wasn't a pioneer. He never wrote a song. He never toured outside the USA. Chuck Berry laid the groundwork for rock and roll in 1955 with Memphis and Maybelline. Elvis just had better publicity because of Colonel Tom Parker.

I always felt that crazy ass Busey would be the best person to play the former president in a biopic!

He's terrible. He screams where Buddy had a soft soothing sound. Busey was the worse choice to play Buddy Holly they could have found. This whole thing is a fiasco. Inaccurate, loud and was panned by the original Crickets and Buddy's family. Maria Elena Holly had too much say-so in what she wanted left out ( Norman Petty, Buddy's manager and the producer of Buddy's first hits) that she ruined the true story.. Bobby Vee or Tommy Roe should have done the voice of Buddy Holly and a better actor should have played Holly instead of the big mouthed Busey.

@@wesleycook7687 I think Busey is amazing in the role. Remember this is a movie not a documentary. I guarantee every biopic ever made is going to have inaccuracies. You also got to look at it from the the time it was made. Buddy Holly was pretty much forgotten about by 1978 and this movie introduced him to a new generation. Fine if you don’t like the movie but it did a good thing for Buddy’s music.

Why is Not Fade Away such a punk rock song? The energy is unreal in this movie scene. I actually prefer this version over the studio version by Buddy Holly. It's wayy too clean.

Gary does a decent job as holly, only thing that lets it down is he plays just one cord throughout.. 🤣😂 shame someone didn’t teach him some cords, so the guitar playing looked realistic!

I just watch Buddy singing Oh Boy on the Ed sullivan show..and..yeah...Busey hit the nail on the head....Buddy looked kinda dorky....stage persona...but he had a rasp in his voice...he had attitude....I'm sure Busey watched that clip....

I also like how it's one take......all live...I don't know if they did other takes....Busey flubs a line or two.....but..try being another person?....playing guitar....everything being live...
..and remembering all the changes in a medley ...on point......well done ....
