WAIT. STOP. ARE YOU TELLING ME I'VE HAD THE SOLUTION THIS WHOLE TIME?! FOR YEARS NOW?!! I've hated the Canon camera connect app with a passion, and I wished that they've created a smoother. There's no solution in comparison to Sony, where you're able to use their Xperia phones as an external monitor, and I've never been one to travel with an external monitor in the first place. I'm literally going on a trip in a few days and I'm definitely going to try this out. Thanks so much Kyle!
In addition to the Xperia phones I think Sony has a Monitor and Control app that works with select android or ios phones with select sony cameras. it's basically what Kyle is describing but built in for Sony cameras.
This is one of my favorite gadget as well. But my problem with it is probably something most people don’t even care about 😂 It’s a battery drainer. Everytime I go out to film with my Sony a74 it always drain the battery of my camera quickly. And also the battery life isn’t as great as advertised. About 2 hours per charge. I would really like to hear anyone’s thoughts about this and any tricks if you have to overcome this issue. 💛🙏
Clean. Simple. Told me what I needed to know without any fluff. This is exactly what I want from a UA-cam video. No notes. (And, I usually have LOTS of "notes." Thanks.
So glad someone is talking about this little gadget. It's been my secret weapon for years! I like to use it on shoots to beam the screen from my laptop to an iPad teleprompter on the camera.
I can't believe I just found out this can be used without the gimbal.. I had this laying around unused the past 2-3 years but I'll go get and test it asap now haha Thank you!
I've had this thing in my closet for two years now. I've only used it twice since I got the Ronin RS2, great video and great hack. I'll be using this from now on, thanks for sharing!
Appreciate your calm voice and speaking style in your video. Also, there was no request whatsover to "subscribe, like, hit the bells and all the whistles" that typically every youtuber thinks they "have to say".....made me immediately subscribe! :)
Same can be done with the Zhiyun Image Transmitter in case anyone wonders. And.. another fun option: a monitor and a rather long HDMI cable (although I wouldn't go much past 10 meters with that setup ;P)
Awesome content man. Thank you for helping the filming community. I’m getting ready to launch this channel and I’m super stoked!! From a beginners filming standpoint with experience in post, I must say, seeing your equipment gave me a sense of another stepping stone to look forward to when I grow my knowledge and experience. Thanks again ❤
Famtastic idea. Never thought of this use case. Appreciate it. Also, well done to get to the stage where you are at with just 67 videos. I know from own experience it can feel disheartening at times but I think its a great achievement and I enjoyed your video/
We are so lucky and fortunate. These are good times! Thanks for the video. I don't even use Canon, and Sony has a good app, but this is good information.
How good is it! I’ve been using mine for a two camera setup and have my phone mounted on the camera I’m operating. True but, I wish it did do focus touch.
So, I gave this a go and there are a few things to be aware of. 1) The USB-C and Mini HDMI cables that come with the RavenEye are just long enough to reach the left side inputs on a Canon camera (as shown in this video) when the RavenEye is in the camera hot shoe by itself. Further than that and you may need to invest in third party cables. 2) The shoe on the bottom of the RavenEye doesn't have a lock, so it can slide out of the camera shoe if you're not careful. 3) With the RavenEye in the hot shoe, there's no longer a convenient place to mount a wireless mic transmitter. So the transmitter has to dangle from the side of the camera, or you will need some kind of multi-shoe adapter. 4) Viewing the video preview on the phone is nice, but awkward holding a phone in your hand while repositioning and composing an image. Ideally, the phone would have a cage or mount so it too could be mounted to the top of the camera and used as a monitor when composing, then removed when you want to carry it with you. As for the Ronin app and wireless transmission, it is better than Canon's Connect app (no surprise there, really). Smoother video transmission, no lag. Nice having waveforms, histograms and false color modes. The one shortfall of the Ronin app is focusing, as you pointed out. The Canon Connect app supports touch focus, and you can change focusing modes too (eye tracking, spot, etc). Usability wise, the RavenEye is strongest I think when used for b-roll (without audio) and when standing multiple feet away from the camera and you need to see where you are positioned in frame and triggering record on/off with the camera already set to the appropriate focus mode.
Dang!! Just started my solo filmmaking journey and was thinking there has GOT to be a better way than the stupid Sony app 😂. Definitely going to cop one of these now!
hold on..... I just realized my raven eye has been sitting in storage and I've been trying to figure out THIS EXACT PROBLEM..... omg thank you for this video
This is so sick what. I've been contemplating getting a field monitor because nikon's connectin app is just as much crap as canon's apparently. but for solo filmmaking a field monitor didn't really seam the best solution either. since it's pretty much the same pricepoint.. I might just get the raveneye. thank you so much for this!
I simply couldn’t believe it when I spent 2,500 bucks on a camera-the excellent Sony a7 IV- and the remote control app was so incredibly finicky. I really will consider this option.
I also have Sony a7 IV and it’s such a pain to use the app honestly. It keeps disconnecting… So frustrating especially while working on productions 😓😓😓
@@markkempton4579 It's ok for filming fairly close to me and if I don't move the phone around. I'd rather have it than not have it. The Monitor+ app seems to do a little better and have a little more power, too. But if I could have a Sony camera just like the a7 IV but with internal ND and a rock-solid broadcast to my phone, I'd be in UA-camr heaven.
Ok well now I feel stupid. I’ve had this thing sitting in my camera bag not using it because I just found that with the Gimbal it was too tricky to film myself as I often need the camera on a tripod. It’s now on the charger getting ready to use
Definitely into this configuration! I spend so much time getting shots wrong and resetting hahaha. Even useful for talking head shots where I get up over and over again to stop and start new segments. Good tip man 🤙🏻
Awesome video and visuals, Kyle! For anyone looking for an even cheaper option, the monitor+ app works amazing as well. I use it with my Sony a7IV all the time on small productions and as a solo creator
This is why I am kinda excited to see what dji do with a mirrorless camera. I'd love to use my drone controller as a wireless monitor / gimbal controller when not using the drone.
This is brilliant, thank you very much! Didn't even occur to me to try this, all I need is a short HDMI and I'm away! Question if I may, your EVF recording, was it done in the Mimo app? Thanks again, subbed.
Excellent stuff, not that I film myself much, but have one of those Raven Eyes that I have only tried out, but never really had any use for. Will definitely mess around with it again, try to find some use for it :)
Great video, great tips. But some Feedback!: Your audio is almost painfully "sharp". it seems like every single "SSSS" sound is elevated of some sort, i dont know if it's your auto gain setting or sound processing/dynamic range compression, but especially between min 1 to min3 it's painfully sharp almost. Might be the mic. Those lav mics arent supposed to be handhold :/
Dude! Game-changer for me. I have struggled with the canon connect app and essentially gave up on it. This will be awesome. I wonder if you can trigger a shutter in photo mode?

Sony has a awesome new and free app for that. Monitor and Control App its called.
In addition to the Xperia phones I think Sony has a Monitor and Control app that works with select android or ios phones with select sony cameras.
it's basically what Kyle is describing but built in for Sony cameras.
Breathe bro, everything's gonna be alright.
Bro I tried using the camera connect app yesterday , shit it hot garbage
Wait xperias can do THAT??? 😳😲
Self filming is work! Loved this video and I just ordered one. Brilliant.
I'm in love with the color grading here. Well done
Exactly my thoughts. Beautiful.
Dude. Your storytelling methods are supreme. You got a sub from me man. Nice work.
This is one of my favorite gadget as well. But my problem with it is probably something most people don’t even care about 😂 It’s a battery drainer. I discovered this hack by accident when trying to solve a similar problem. You made an elegant video to share it with all of us. Kudos!
The best UA-cam algorithm surprise of the decade
Thanks man ! Great tip
I really like the color tone of your videos; it gives me a great feeling.
Clean. Simple. Told me what I needed to know without any fluff. This is exactly what I want from a UA-cam video. No notes. (And, I usually have LOTS of "notes." Thanks.
This just came across my algorithm and I definitely agree! The raven eye is seriously underrated. I love how small it is
So glad someone is talking about this little gadget. It's been my secret weapon for years! I like to use it on shoots to beam the screen from my laptop to an iPad teleprompter on the camera.
THANK YOU! As a Home DIY guy that solo films everything. I completely gave up on the Lumix S5IIX app. SO from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU!
I can't believe I just found out this can be used without the gimbal.. I had this laying around unused the past 2-3 years but I'll go get and test it asap now haha Thank you!
OMG mare you are a expert, we never thought of these. Well done and thanks for sharing this for the world photographer and video guys. Cheers
I've had this thing in my closet for two years now. I've only used it twice since I got the Ronin RS2, great video and great hack. I'll be using this from now on, thanks for sharing!

Love the video mate! It’s refreshing to see such quality content on a smaller channel! Keep up the great work and good luck to you!
Dude your videos are getting so good!
bro your color correction is out of this world!
I'm in the same predicament that you were in!! And I completely forgot about the Raven Eye!
You're a legend Kyle, adding one to cart now XD
Wow. That's such a flawless and affordable solution. Thanks for sharing. You earned a sub.
this video was really well done. Bravo!
Iv wanted a solution like this for so long! thanks for the tip man.. also like your film style, pretty pleasing to the eye 😃
Thank you for this! This will come useful as a solo videographer. Not just for filming myself but as I setup for filming
No Wayyyyyyy I have this for months and never knew this :))) OK getting out of the house now to check this !!!!! thanks a lot for this
I’m thrilled you actually gave me new info. This sounds awesome! I’m going to 100% keep this in mind
Awesome video! Looking forward to trying this out
Very cool piece of gear especially for us solo creators. And surprisingly affordable too! Thanks for sharing.
Same can be done with the Zhiyun Image Transmitter in case anyone wonders. And.. another fun option: a monitor and a rather long HDMI cable (although I wouldn't go much past 10 meters with that setup ;P)
Wow, I’ve had the RavenEye in my gear this whole time and had no idea I could use it like this! =) glad I found your video, thanks!

From a beginners filming standpoint with experience in post, I must say, seeing your equipment gave me a sense of another stepping stone to look forward to when I grow my knowledge and experience. The connect apps are such a gimick honestly. I'm so excited for this!!!!
Suggestion aside (which is really useful) --- my god what beautiful color grading and cool style with the music. Never seen this before
This… is… amazing!! Thank you, Kyle!!! Subscribed!!!
This needs to blow tf up what an incredible video and gear tip too.
thanks for your tip and really nice music selection :D
brilliant solution Kyle!

This is amazing. I was wanting to get a second screen, but this solves that issue!
This is such a great tip for travel filmmaking!
I used my Raveneye for this purpose more than the actual gimbal when I had one. So helpful.
Great video. Love the vibe.
This was bloody awesome! I've had this damn raven eye for a while (with my RS3) but never thought about using it like this.
OMG, how good! Thank you bro!
Going to try this on my next solo shoot. Great suggestion, and even better content. Subscribed!
We are so lucky and fortunate. These are good times! Thanks for the video. I don't even use Canon, and Sony has a good app, but this is good information.
Bro you just saved me some money, I didnt thing the raven eye works without the gimbal, huge thanks
HOLY SHIT.
As someone who had officially given up on the self-filming issue, this is absolutely game changing.
Thank you!
Camranger
I like your choice of music.
How good is it! I’ve been using mine for a two camera setup and have my phone mounted on the camera I’m operating.
True but, I wish it did do focus touch.
This is incredible!!
lovee the colour bro! keep creating 🤙
Thanks for the tip! Love the shots you captured btw!
Dang man! I’ve had this for years and never thought of this 🤦🏻♂️ thanks for this life hack
Had mine sitting in a bag for years! Now I am gonna try to use it.

EXACTLY THE SOLUTION I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO JURY RIG FOR 2 MONTHS!!THANKS FOR THIS GOT A SUB FROMME!!
Let me just say....your color grading is beautiful!
Wow! What a fricken legend. Subbed
Dang!! Just started my solo filmmaking journey and was thinking there has GOT to be a better way than the stupid Sony app 😂. Definitely going to cop one of these now!
Yes, the Raven Eye is so underarted!
Thanks for this tip, very helpful!

This is a great tip! I wish I’d thought of that before buying an Accsoon wireless system.
Great video. I am ordering one today from Amazon with your link
Awesome Video and well edited 😊🎬📸☕

I love that you showcasing something that most of us gimbal users have already. You have a new subscriber!
Using this toy too, amazing piece of gear. But main thing I want to say - you live in AMAZING place.
Great video. Entertaining regardless of the subject matter.
Beautiful scenery as well !

Amazing Video and Knowledge. Thank you for this tip!
Love my Raveneye but more importantly who does your colour grading??? Is it you because it’s incredible 🔥 some of those shots are breathtaking
Great tip. Had this for the longest time and barely been using it.
This is 🔥🔥
Thank you for sharing
wow I still have a raven eye and never used it but are in the same predicament, that is an awesome idea wonder if that works with Sony
Very insightful thank you
Great video! I gotta use this thing more!
Awesome. I'm going to give this a try on my sony camera.

Can you buy the raveneye without the gimbal?

Hi! Thanks for the video!
Did dji have focus control now?)
Great solution! Thanks so much for sharing this. 🙏🏾
Glad it was helpful! Such a cheap trick to make solo filmmaking easier
Great video!!
