Steven, all I can say is your a life saver!!! I wish this video came out a year ago. I busted my ass chasing a leak from my Symmons valve for weeks trying to locate the source of the leak. Thanks for the video, and by the way......, get the snow shovel ready.
Cool little 4way tool you got there. Ive been using a deck screw and a pair of pliers to pull it. Just found your channel recently, you make some great vids. Hopefully you guys get more rain than snow down there.
Mine was also leaking from the diverter and stained the ceiling below. The problem was I couldn't get the handle off the stem it was so corroded on. Even a handle puller didn't work. I didn't want to damage the spindle because it was working just fine, so I ended up cutting the handle off using a Dremel and cut-off disc. Replacing the diverter valve was easy. I didn't have the 4-way tool, so i just used an Easy-Out bolt extractor and it came right out. Seems to me that it only really needed a new O-ring, but a new valve was only $10 at Lowe's.
Hi Steve, I have a similar Symmons shower/tub valve and I find that when I'm taking a 10 minute shower another 5 gallons of hot water comes out the tub spout at the same time. I was wondering if any water should be coming out of tub spout when showering? The diverter is turned all the way when showering. I would appreciate your input on this.. Thank you, Ed
My problem is that the spindle within the housing won't turn. It's almost like the diameter of the housing is smaller now so it's very tight. It was a bear to get out and just as hard to put the new spindle in. I had to knock it with a hammer to get it all the way in. How do I fix this? I do have well water and was told it had sand in it. Any suggestions?
Thanks for this video. I have one of these really old valve and even though I have the water turned off, I’m still getting water dripping from somewhere. Is it possible there is enough water in the pipe that it could just be constantly dripping under the tub?
Hi Steven, My poor plumber just installed new Symmons shower/tub valve (repiped) after my plumber struggling install, water came out from shower always, even diverta turned both shower and tub side water came out. plumber said he doesn't know why... he soldered quit messy. could you please tell me what is wrong with it or suggest? I want try fix it by myself. I can trust my guy.... so sad.
I can hear a drip in between the wall even when the water is shut off(not from the main). Could this be the same issue I'm having? Would it be different set up on delta?
Watched the video. I usually install my own faucets and have always tried to do my own plumbing. This looked easy enough to do, so I tried it. I put the valve in as shown, but the water gets by the O-ring when I turn on the water. ????? In the video the valve didn't leak! Mine does!
Wait a minute! If this leak was behind the wall, how did they know there was a leak? Was it dripping towards the front of the shutoff valve or was there some kind of mold or moisture problem elsewhere? I am trying to prevent these plumbing nightmares that have taken over my life! You got some special tools there that will come in handy for me to check mine.

I was curious about the tool used too. For anyone wanting it this appears to be a place where you can get one. www.ravenproducts.us/PDFs/symmons%20tools.pdf
