The first thing I noticed that he didn't pull out the cartridge out of the valve which by soldering the pipe he installed could have melted or destroyed the cartridge in the valve. You always pull the cartridge before soldering. The second thing I noticed that there was no strapping behind the valve and a lot of half ass plumbers don't do this because they are in a hurry. We always strapped everything we installed like it was our own. Sweating pipe and not knowing how to clean it afterwards can cause you to get electroless on your copper fittings. Its the same green stuff on your car battery. The flux if not wiped off can cause it.
@@bmjca123 The valve needs to be strapped that is why it has holes in the body of it so it won't move in and out and be secure in the wall. It's just doing a better job it its strapped.
"Electroless" thank you, I just called corrosion. Steve should use a heat shield, and encircle the joint better. A multitool and a level leaves the drywall looking like an access panel, not a jagged hole in the wall. Brian above fails to recognize what quality work looks like. Who wants to operate a valve and have slop around, how before the silicone seal loosens?
The intake pipe from my well sprung a leak Monday, I replaced it with pvc, it was galvanized and my water is hard and corroded it. Great video as usual.👍🇺🇸
One thing I've learned after soldering miles of old pipe is that the top layer of old solder has to be removed exposing clean metal. There's a few right angle drills I can think of that you could put a cut off brush into and heat the fitting while brushing. When the solders on a pipe I heat up and wipe it off with a rag or that black flame cloth. I enjoy your channel and am just getting into HVAC after earning a universal epa. STEVE. You have been running that truck for years. As someone that worked on fleet trucks I think you need to look at the time that old rig has worked for you.
do you think it helps if you have t's on the tub valve with risers for water hammer or does it not matter? I am putting in a shower and i just have pipes soldered in with street ells and my brother said i should add risers to take up water hammer
What I’m looking for is one of those videos where Steven starts asking you why he’s wearing gloves?! Those are the BEST videos! You see one of those videos, you know you’re in for a good video “momma!” 😂
Think you should have soldered the small piece of copper going into the valve itself, then soldered on the 90. Just to make sure both pieces get properly soldered the first time. Still a good job too.
Get a multi-tool (like a Fein or the equivalent from any of the major tool brands) the cuts it can do through plaster and wood will be much cleaner than using a panel saw, use a template to cut around and the lines will be straighter as well. If you're worried about it damaging wires, only if the wire is held rigid, otherwise the blade will just move the wires from side to side, it's the same technology used to remove plaster casts from broken bones, it cuts the hard plaster but won't cut the skin beneath because it can move.
Glad to see you did it right and did not use those crappy press fittings. It's hard to find quality work nowadays. These guys just want to get in and out as fast as they can and don't care about quality and workmanship by using these crap fittings
You should get rid of the truck and get a nice big enclosed trailer instead and just pull it with your pickup. Be a hell of a lot cheaper in the long run
Hi, I already watched a lot of your videos, so my shower(on the second floor) is leaking to the garage. It’s not leaking when I turned on shower and water going down from drain. But when I changed to shower head , it’s leaking , I already checked drain, overflow tube, and shower head, I didn’t see any water leaking or drip, do you know where is leaking or where can I check for leaking ?? I will appreciate
Valve is designed so you can either solder it or use a compression fitting. That being said it's a code violation to use compression fittings in inaccessible locations. If that closet had a removable access panel to get to the back of the valve you could use a compression fitting, but sealed behind drywall it has to soldered
@@stevenlavimoniere watching you lead-in a ci flange replacement was great to see, but as an apprentice in service, i doubt i'll ever need to do it. Every time i run into ci its replace, not repair, id have to be at a different job to even really work with it.
When a plumber yells "SHUT IT OFF, SHUT IT OFF !!", no time is to be wasted.

The copper is ridged enough to support the valve

Great job! Should get one of those diesel Sprinters and a hottie to run parts.
Good job Steve, the truck sounds less noisy, sounds like it's running better.
I did the exact same repair in using my propress in one minute last week :)

Oatey access panel ftw
I also wondered if he removed trim if it was a joint line, either way, access in a closet, only the owner or next plumber will know.
@@patricwagner7147 I did one like that and used 1/4 plywood hid by the shelf cleats
Why a removable panel, it should never ever leak.
@paulradice3534 so the valve will never break?
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
That short piece in there makes it tricky soldering.
I wouldn't have even cut the pipe, just unsolder the 90 & short bit, replace both with a street el.

Steve, you ever thought about scrapping the big box truck and go with a sprinter type van? You can still carry a ton of tools and better gas mileage.
Sprinters suck. High maintenance costs, and rust issues.

That 90 is so close to the valve, and solder needs to get in to two separate places.
