- It’s a car that eludes many and is only understood by few. For those who don’t understand what the solara is meant to be Let me refresh you on the beautiful idea of simplicity. This is what makes a Toyota so great to begin with. Being that the first generation is already rare enough As is, I truly believe the 1st generation solara will most likely become a future classic someday. There really is nothing else like it.
The Toyota Solara!
Thanks for watching!!!!

FYI...The first Toyota convertible sold in the US was the 1982 Celica Sun Chaser. It hasd a wide Targa-like roll bar with a plasic rear window. I've owned an '86 and '93 Celica convertibles, and I currently own a 2000 Solara V6 SLE convertible. Everything on it works and it's extremely reliable. I love them all.
Got the onion in the trunk, the broken soft top, timing belt issue, faded paint, bad transmission, expired tags, and check engine light flashing. What a car!
It’s for sale!!! If you’d like to buy, it the onion is included!!! Haha
I've got a 2002 model and it's the best car I've owned. I'll bet the shaking is a misfire, I'd do new plugs and wires and check the coils. Enjoyed your video.
I bought my 2007 Solara SLE ragtop new. Best car I've ever owned and I'll keep it until a decent replacement is made.
Nice video and very comprehensive
In the back the “ash tray cubby” is a cup holder that got broken. Thank you for the video. Got the same model and I love that car
The thing that pops down from the back of the console when you are in the back seat once held cup holders that would rotate out. They were pretty flimsy and a pain to get back in - possibly the biggest "fail" for the interior of this model.
There is also a small compartment on the driver's left side, about mid-way between the bottom of the wheel and the hood release, that pulls out and down that is just big enough to hold a roll of quarters. Just a quirky feature I really like. (If you aren't using it for quarters to feed to parking meters or pay tolls, it is handy for storing a roll of life savers.)
I have a 2002 Solara SLE convertible with just under 168K miles, and it is still a great car. Just replaced the top and had it painted, and I am looking forward to the next 100+K miles. (Mine is definitely _not_ for sale.)
I want one of these, and Honestly, if the future's cars are too unreliable & don't have drop-tops, i'd drive one forever if i could.
Engine vibration wouldn't happen from the timing belt unless it jumped a tooth in which case it either wouldn't run or would smoke like a champ.. likely what you have is a misfire or a bad motor mount. The 1mzfe in these cars were notorious for top end sludge issues if the oil wasn't changed every 3k miles, but if it was changed every 3k miles my last one went 400k miles.. just make sure you do the timing belt, tensioners, water pump, and plugs every 100k miles.. otherwise you're on borrowed time after 100k miles.
So what you’re saying is, The oil is sludging up and causing a parasitic loss in the valve train area and camshafts?
Trying to find an honest review was kinda hard, but I’ve managed to find one! I’m trying to see if I should get this car. The one I’m looking at has 167,000 miles on it, the car looks pretty good tho I’m still not sure if I should buy it
Muy bonito solara aunque tenga demasiados detalles y fallos, quiero uno pero lo prefiero en color beige y carroceria blanca, son carros hechos con calidad!!
no como los toyota de ahora 😪
Shame you couldn't get your hands on a clean hardtop.
Dude I just need to no about the damn fuse
Fuse?
