  • Awesome gears, great turning and great for comps, not so great for trails though.

The overdrive changes your final drive ratio. Your final drive ratio is always based on the fastest set of tires. We run into the same thing running the t-case OD flip in a TF2. It creates alot more heat because of this added labor on the motor. Great video as always man.

Your right EXO, wow big improvement on steering!! Man that lose of sidehilling is the deal breaker for me. Where we drive there is a ton of sidehills to get to each rocky section. At one point I thought you installed a sound kit for valve tick!!!!

LOL I am wondering if thats my rubber bands making the shifters rattle, I may try to loosen them up and see.

Hi Joe, Nice video. Wish that TGH would also make a more moderately geared set of overdrive portal gears in the range of 20%. Thanks.

They do. He installed the WILD version, but they also have a MILD one that's less overdrive. Check the link in the description.

On extremely steep climb , having the rear underdriven helps the rear axle from trying to drive "under" the rig helping it not to flip over...I don't necessarily think it'll climb steeper but definitely more stable.
I ALWAYS prefer underdriving the rear as for overdriving the front because the closer the axles get to "freeway" gears to more torque-twist you have to deal with.
Same with going down hill...the front slightly dragging the rear prevents the rear from coming over the top and allow the front to lead.

I agree with you. There's not enough UNDERDRIVE options, for any Rig other than the SCX10 One.

@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks Oh...the TRX4 has overdrive and underdrive option.
I think...maybe the Axial doesn't have underdrive is there's not enough room in that small diff-case for a bigger ring gear.

@@tomlucasrccrawlers9108 yeah, like I said, only SCX10 One...
I think with today's technology, someone can machine a tiny Ring Gear with one more tooth. The Traxxas Underdrive Gears are about the same physical size.

Saw a video that explained the clicking, behind the bell housing those two gears that are held in place by pins . Each gear has a squared notch and a rounded notch on opposite side if you use the rounded one clicking stops.

Good info and nice breakdown! I'm a fan of around 18-22% overdrive up front on most of my serious crawlers. All in preference and where you're driving!

I think that this clicking may be caused by gear hitting the gear selector. All that slope in between selector and gear may cause to tension up and lose the drivetrain and hit eachother. Easiest way to check it would be putting some cushion on selector teeth...

I'm so mad, got their mild 25% and now with the tires back on and the driveshafts off the front is kinda tight and noisy. The stock in the rear is smooth. Took everything apart again and see nothing wrong. I'm at a loss now 🤷

After I locked out my hi gear it got quiet didn’t see a reason to use it crawling I used the factory lock out spacer and used a nut to snug it down...try the 1.7 ratio really helps gear it down

I went to buy the gears through your link. I definitely can't afford them. They are listed as $1,000,000.00. What's up with that. I added them to my Cart and the price didn't change.

I really don't have any use for an overdrive setup. I like running my drive train, a little on the sloppy side. After trailing and rock crawling with an over driven rig, I didn't like the way it tracked.

would be nice to can shift a overdrive in first gear and second gear without overdrive.

I have a capra and found that those gears hurt climbing. To much over drive. I have found that around 20% works best for climbing.

I like the Hot Racing versions as they are less, I've heard about a new set of gears from TGH with less od in them so that could be an option

    • @dougnoble8720
      @dougnoble8720 4 роки тому

@@ExocagedRC Yes I use the hot racing gears and the over drive gears for the differential. Took some work to get the gears in the diff to mesh right. Not sure if I got a bad set or they aren't exactly the same as the 6 bolt sc 10ii gears. Look the same. Going that route it climbs real well.
