    There sure is a lot to that trans. Great build video! 👍👍😎😎✌✌

      Yeah, lots of gears. Reminds me of the SSD Trans in # of gears, but a bit more complex because of the dig and 2-speed.

    Ahhhh the controversial Transmission!!! 😲😜
    I have heard that CORRECT Pin Placement is vital, to not get clicking....
    But a thin 5mm Shim between the Transmission Gears to steady them also helps. And I've heard that a HEAVY Grease is preferred. (Much like you used!)
    Disclosure - I don't have one. Probably can't afford to buy one. But I know guys who have decades of experience like me, and they've been desperately fighting the "click"!!
    ..... Frankly I think it gives it a realistic Straight 6 TICK sound effect!! 😂😜
    Stay SAFE Bro! 😷

      Yup, I'm not going to shim it yet. I will run it first to see if I need it. If I do, then I'll shim those. Since I'm using an 11t it'll be pretty nice and slow, but if I do go up in pinion, I might get the straight axle gear set.

    Looks good, the problems with these I seen also and guy's did have the gears on correctly... I think part of the noises come from how lose the gears fit on the shafts they have a lot of play in them.

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  4 роки тому

      Yeah, I haven't run it yet... but if I still have issues after having correctly orienting these gears, I'll probably end up shimming them. I may even go for the straight axle gear set.

    Great building! If I could ask... You've done many builds. I'm looking for the highest quality build kit. "Bang for your buck" if possible. But if another kit is better... Not holding you to anything. I go years without buying. So all the info I can get before I pull the trigger helps. I've always wanted a straight comp rock crawler. But. The versatility of a trail/crawler always wins out. Just throw me some opinions if you don't mind.

      It really all depends on what you want to do and where you want to drive it. For example, regarding the rigs I have now. When I want to go for straight up performance, I grab my Enduro. When I go for trailing, I grab one of the other rigs, but it doesn't mean the other rigs aren't capable. Some are just set up differently with bigger/heavier bodies, which also makes a difference in performance. For me personally, I'm not much of a portal axle guy. They do give you more clearance, but I have a hard time with tipping sometimes because of their higher COG. Of course, lots of people do really well with portals, and it could just be that my driving style is different. One thing you don't want to do is portal with big body... which this SCX10.3 pretty much is as well as the TRX4 Defender, and the Redcat Gen8 to a degree (although it has the lightest big body of the bunch). The other factor is aftermarket options. Element, Traxxas, and Axial seem to do pretty well in that regards. Redcat is starting to see some of it as well. I say choose the rig with the axles, transmission, and aftermarket support you want. The rest can be changed to help performance or look more scale.

      Just what I needed. I was looking for high grade parts at the get go. Then started thinking I have a good assortment of upgraded trail/crawl rigs already. Then I'll still want a comp crawler. Oh, the agony.

      TBH, this guy has built and Wheeled pretty much all of the newer Trucks... He's got good advice! 😉

    Why do you prefer the brake caliper grease?

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  4 роки тому

      I just use it because I have it already, but to answer your question... it's sticky enough so that it doesn't get flung off the gears too easily, while not being too sticky to cause too much resistance.

    Wow that’s alot of stuff for the transmission.

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  4 роки тому

      Yeah, the transmission is quite involved!

  • @markclausson564
    @markclausson564 4 роки тому

    Why do you use the grease that came with it for the differentials, And then caliper grease for the transmission? By the way you use way more grease than necessary.

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  4 роки тому +1

      I think at that point, I just forgot there was black grease supplied (It's what happens when you try to rush that 1 hour of wrench time in between family time). As for the amount of grease... it eventually thins out, but I was just making sure that i got every tooth. The amount is just a byproduct of me trying to get it on the gears using that bar from the lid which doesn't do the best job of it. I really should get a brush to brush it on, which is what I eventually need to get around to doing so that I can control the amount spread on the gears a little better.

    beautiful editing! the engine 'crawlmaster sport 540 13t' is good for the scx10 iii?

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  4 роки тому

      Yes, definitely. It'll be roughly equivalent to a 540 27T 3-slot motor. 540 13T 5-slot (1850kv) 540 27T 3-slot (1800kv) 550 21T 3-slot (1800kv).

    What’s your opinion on ditching the 2nd gear for the scx3. I built my scx3 bout a year ago and now just getting back to it and trying to finish it off w electronics n motor n servos that I just finally all got this week which are crawlmaster sport 13t along w HW Quickrun 1080 esc, standard servo amd 1 micro servo for the dig. Problem is I’m 95% sure I went ahead and followed the “no 2nd gear” manual instruction but did install the dig function gear. I really don’t want to open her back up again and check just to see if I did install the 2nd gear since I already did that for the 2nd time to fix the “clicking” problem sound like 6 months ago which I did find only 1 of the portal axle gear w squared side was installed incorrectly and one of the inner transmission gears also had to be flipped ⚙️ did u install your 2nd gear and do u find yourself really using or utilizing the 2nd gear at all? I’m a casual crawler mostly inside n outside the house once in a while outdoors here in Vegas but never really ran the scx3 since I’m still trying to finish it lol 😆

    • @RevolutionX
      @RevolutionX  2 роки тому +1

      2nd gear kind of useless on this rig. It's not much of a difference from normal gearing I feel. On top of that, I mostly crawl the rig, so I have no use for it. If you only can have either the 2-speed or dig, I'd choose the dig.

    • @lstruggy
      @lstruggy 2 роки тому +1

      @@RevolutionX that was my thinking too I’m not really gonna be doing speed passes w this scx3 lol but when I built it last year I did install the dig & 2speed together so I’m kind undecided atm & I don’t wana mess w it anymore cause the transmission is also fully built the only thing not built is the frame so maybe I’ll just install it since it’s already all there lol 😆 and u think if I bypass the spectrum micro servo they suggest and just go w budget ms from amazon will it fit flush w no modifications?
