  • Famous Physical Therapist's Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck present a simple test one can do to determine if one of your legs is longer than the other. If one is longer and you are getting back pain or sacroiliac pain from it- Bob and Brad will show you a simple solution. A longer leg is referred to as a leg length discrepancy.

A simple test you can do to determine whether the problem is functional or anatomical is to lay on your back with your knees bent and your heels lined up. Then put something flat across your knees. If it's slanted, you have an anatomical problem. If it's level, your problem is probably functional (muscular, pelvic, etc...)

See my issue is the leg is literally shorter. By a centimeter or so. No issues with hips it’s just the way the legs are. Idk what to do about it though. Just accept that my left leg will always have smaller muscles and bear less weight than my right?

    • @scottk1525
      @scottk1525 6 місяців тому +1

@@seansull From what I read, if you're under 1 cm, the difference is negligible and unlikely to cause you any issues.

After 5+ years of chronic hip, knee and back pain, turns out my lower leg bone is longer than the other which has caused me a lot of grief even as a child but mostly as I got older. A wedge has been out in my shoe to try it out and the lain hoas gone! I still have inflammation I the knees and so on but I feel this will now correct itself when I get orthotics. Not all legs length issues come from tight hips, some can be because the bones are longer.
I'm so thankful someone has picked this up as I was getting so low and feeling g suicidal due to the pain and affect it was having on my life. I couldn't hack it. But I kept fighting to get answers. Surgery isn't always the answer, it's just one view. Things can look so different when you look from different angles. Speak to everyone and dont give up ❤

I have one shin (leg bone) longer than the other. I had an accident when i was 8 years old (i am 31 now), i broke my left shin and it grew almost 3 cm longer than the other. 6 years have passed while wearing an 2 cm "wear lift" in my right shoe, my right "latissimus dorsi" muscle is swollen and i feel tension in my neck with some minor hearing loss in my left ear. I do not know if this is the right call, the two specialists i have consulted told me the same thing, to increase the height of my heel in time until i reach 2.7 cm. I am really desperate about my condition because surgery (shortening the left leg bone) is out of the question, there is no one that could take care of me for more then 1 month and the recovery could take up to 6 months. I am constantly on the move, either im filming or at the office, it would be impossible for me to stay at home or in a hospital for that long!

Had leg braces as a child, late walker & had special shoes. Absurd no one asks about such issues on medical forms. I could have a fallen arch pantomiming a limb disparity.
I appreciate the prop, it can help distinguish. Appreciate the time frame of compliance to understand.
Referrals to a PROFESSIONAL to be fleeced for incompetence is in ineffective inefficient systems is weak advise. Need more tracking of medical compliance/patient interest focused info with this type of advise.

Hey Guys, I've been having extreme pain in my right knee, for about 4 months now. I did not injure it, I have put on a few pounds, but if that were the reason for the pain I assume both knees would be in pain. Anyways, about 2 weeks ago my left knee did start to hurt. Then I wondered if it could be my arches. So I tried one of those Dr. Scholl's Foot Stations at the local store here and it did confirm my arches were basically flat. I purchased a pair of insoles that provided support and the pain in my left knee went away. But the pain in my right remained. Ok, I told you all that to ask this, could one leg shorter than the other cause knee pain, and do you think I'm on the right track with these shoe inserts? Thank You, and Sorry about being long-winded!

I broke my right leg in the 7th grade and the fracture went through my growth plate, it didn’t require surgery and they said the fracture most likely wouldn’t affect my growth. But since then... about to years later I got ozchgood shlatter in my left pretty bad... about a year later that started to die down but then my hip starting popping, the pain would get so severe I couldn’t do any physical activity for days. I didn’t receive any medical treatment for any of these and after about 2 or 3 months the hip popping went away. So now to current time... Im in 11nth grade, very physically active and weeks ago I didn’t have any problems... I ran a long a long distance and I felt a sharp pain in my inner left hip/pelvis area, I been having this problem for weeks and the pain will go away and come back each time I do an activity. This has been by far the most aggravating of my previous conditions and the problem is have no clue what it is.... the knee problem and hip problem were easy to identify but this is not since I’m only 17 and most hip problems come at an older age... I don’t know if the cause of this was my fracture in my right leg from 4 years ago or if it’s overuse or something worse. PLEASE HELP !!! I would appreciate it !

If I walk across a slope where the slope is downwards to the right I do not have any problems. However. If the slope is upward to the right I get really bad sciatica. Any suggestions as to possible causes? Could my right leg be longer than my left causing leverage on my pelvis etc?

I have a question I never I had this problem before. But when I looked at a full length mirror that my left leg/ calf is slightly bigger than my right. The difference is much, but if really look at it you will notice. I don't know what's the cause of this. Last summer I played a lot of intense basketball and my knee started to so much after one game of ball. Maybe that might be the cause but I'm not sure. The pain has been gone in that I haven't played basketball for months but my lelft leg/ calf is slightly bigger than my right. Do you know what might cause this.

    • @Flipodahippo

physicaltherapyvideo no problem, but from what I just mentioned being that my left leg/calf is slightly a little bigger than my right. Is it a concern even though I don't feel any pain. Also the difference is only noticeable when you really pay attention to it. Then theirs the fact that I never had this problem before in my life. Thanks.

I'm so CONFUSED. Not to sound ignorant but if my right hip is HIGHER than the left---doesn't that mean that my right leg is longer??? I've been advised to place a foot lift in my right shoe, I'd hate to be doing the wrong thing for so long. Pls advise

    • @NaishaS

The legs are the same length but the hip placements are different. Therefore if one leg is higher, that leg doesn't reach as far down. Therefore, extra height is needed

Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I have had back problems pretty much all my life, one of my legs is shorter than the other. My big question is about 6 years ago, my hips started to pop. I mean inside the groin area, while I move my leg and it's unexpected. I do not know what that is or means. I've researched for months and nothing. The "Pop" used to be somewhat painful but now, I welcome them and they absolutely indicate my stress level is lower and my pain level is lower. Any insight or idea what this could be?

I may have one leg shorter than the other even though the difference is invisible. I realized it because I am a runner and lately, every time I run on asphalt which is going down from left to right, I am very uncomfortable in my right foot. If the terrain goes down from right to left, that's not a problem. Also, I have dead skin on the outer side of my right heel and on the inner side of my left heel....I am still confused whether which leg is longer....do you have advice for this kind of small difference that affects running? I use Vibrams five fingers. It's the only shoes that are more comfortable... Thank you.
