- Today, I'm unboxing the Chanel No. 5 Holiday Advent Calendar! I already knew what was inside since I shared a preview of the contents but there were still a few surprises both good and bad! Overall, I am very happy I decided to forgo other holiday launches to purchase this calendar instead. Most of the other holiday makeup (Dior, Pat McGrath Labs etc.) will go on sale in a few months but the Chanel calendar's value has already increased since it sold out so quickly. We may not look at luxury advent calendars as a value set, but what you get should still be luxurious. Cheap stickers, bookmarks, and flip books aren't it. Chanel can obviously get away with it though, and I am absolutely floored. Thanks for the video, super interesting.

The stickers are stupid. Your sweater is really pretty. I would just rather buy a bottle of perfume, and skip all the packaging. Some of it seems like a 10 year kid would enjoy. They should have just made a little advent calendar for little girls, with the stickers.

Update: I saw someone actually do the math and figure out the price based on comparable items Chanel sells and they figured out the price for the perfumes, lotions, and soaps based on price/oz…. And it was like just over $200 in value
The emperor's clothes in a calendar. Chanel should be ashamed of themselves. Their greed knows no bounds - stickers, an empty pouch, children's bracelets and pins, samples they give out for free, a booklet with pictures of No.5 bottle??? They are taking the absolute pi*s. The sooner people realize this the better.
You could not have said it any better.... And to think this is my favorite brand (everyday is full face of Chanel day for me). This advent calender is a disgrace!
With yet another price increase within 4 months I’m pretty much finished with them. I will be hard pressed to buy any bags from the boutique. A medium classic flap will now cost over $11,000 Canadian!!!

100% agree with you. No companies should ever get to this stage where they can sell cr*p for nearly a $1000. I'd rather purchase the full sized perfume and the lipstick separately if I need it and donate the saved money to a cancer or childrens charity, instead of making chanel even richer for selling stickers, tiny mirrors where you can only see one of your eyes and a booklet of chanel no5 bottle drawings?...what has the world come to?! Each to their own tho.

Erin for Prez! i honestly believe this calendar is SUCH a GREAT reflection of where Chanel has gone - cheap garbage with a super high price tag. Quality control was drowned in the Seine.
I wouldn't say she was selling it, she was just being professionally polite which was very smart of her and also self protecting. Someone recently unboxed this speaking their mind no filter and got blocked and video taken down by Chanel. This lady elegantly showed her disappointment but politely and clearly stated it was overpriced and admitted she knew what she was buying without trashing the company.

$900 for a cardboard box.... has Chanel lost their mind? I still cannot believe this was marketed towards adults. Most of the items seem more appropriate for a little girl's advent calendar. The snowglobe is adorable, but I feel Chanel should have just produced large ones and sold them.

The best thing about this calendar is the packaging ... I love the large cardboard perfume "box" however not a fan of the items inside ;( Was expecting a bit more from CHANEL .. great video regardless, thank you Erin!

I’d far rather purchase a lot of full size products than have that amount of cardboard, string, stickers etc. I have a few of those wee things which were gifted to me with my purchases, I am very disappointed in Chanel for putting such a high price on this item especially as it’s full of freebies & stickers! ❤️

Thanks for sharing! I really don’t understand this calendar. It’s not the cost - it’s more that some of the items don’t seem worthy of the iconic brand. Then again, I thought that the Factory collection was off brand, too, even after I read and understood the reason behind it 🤔

I think maybe the plan was to recreate a child's advent calendar but make it No.5 themed... which is weird because no child has $825 to spend or even likes the smell of No.5! The calendar itself is beautiful but they could have done a better job with the contents, they had plenty of room. xx

lol yes! I will give it the white glove treatment from now on! I think I had a real reckoning "come to Jesus" moment during my last makeup organization/declutter video when I found all of the holiday makeup I had purchased from the previous year and completely forgotten about. At some point, once you have enough makeup (most beauty UA-camrs/product reviewers do) anything you buy is pretty wasteful unfortunately. It's all relative, I would much rather invest in the calendar this year since it won't be available again versus spending probably the same amount of money on holiday makeup that I won't ever touch after I post my review. That's just my perspective! xx

Wow, Erin I applaud you for 'taking one for the team' and purchasing this - even as a collector - to show us. I know it's No. 5 themed because of the anniversary, but it would have helped the value a bit to have a small bottle of No. 19 in the 19 box, and a small bottle of No. 22 in that box and maybe one of the Exlusifs in another box. I have loved Chanel makeup since the early 90's, but all those stickers??? Oh MY! Thanks again, Erin for the unboxing.
No.19 and No.22 are beautiful and very unique perfumes.

Mark your calendars for October 28th, that will be the launch of the holiday makeup collection! 😍I hope you enjoy seeing the calendar unboxed, it's truly a special collector's item. Only 890 of them sold in the US which is why it sold out so fast. I don't think it's possible to justify the outrageous price tag but in an attempt to play devil's advocate, I must point out that the extremely limited quantity has helped to increase the value of the calendar. It's already selling second hand for over twice the price which is usually the case for Chanel items. While most of the other holiday makeup launches will go on sale in the next few months, the calendar will increase in value in the eyes of a collector. I think the advent calendar should be seen as more of a novelty item, like a Dior puzzle or Hermes pop-up book. It's not the contents inside that give it value, it's the calendar itself since they don't make them every year. I'm happy I went ahead with my order but I completely understand the criticism as well. What do you think?! xx

I didn’t think Chanel would be a good value calendar of course, they are expensive so that’s to be expected but I’m in complete and utter shock. When you started to take the tissue off, I gasped because of how beautiful it looked. Stickers and paper ornaments? It just seems to be aimed at children. Chanel really missed on this occasion. It didn’t need to be all mini products which would have been nice but ornaments that are of really good quality that will last and are exclusives. I can’t believe they get away with this, its as though they are taking the high paying customers for fools. Disappointing and I’m so glad nobody I know bought this. I did love the review though, you were able to stay enthusiastic and positive when I’d have been livid but that’s why I watch you ❤️
My god, this advent calendar contains as many stickers, childish bracelets and paper stuff as some advent calendars targeting teenage girls, but 10-20 times more expensive!!! Erin is so sweet to try to make the best out of the situation...but I can tell this calendar does not bring her joy...

When you think of everything they could have filled it with - skincare , make up., different perfumes with greater variety .. I’m shocked that they will put this out for that insane price . You are my go to person when it comes to Chanel beauty. I love collectors items and hard to find items. I’m fresh out of college so my bank account can’t quite afford an item like this YET, so for now I’ll settle for watching you open this baby up. Thank you Erin! I really enjoyed watching this! The more I think about the items inside the calendar, though, the less sense this makes to me. I get that with an advent calendar (as opposed to a value or gift set) we’ve been essentially conned into thinking we’re paying for the ✨experience✨ of it all but I’d be so upset if I splurged on this calendar and opened up pack after pack of stickers. It all screams throwaway quality to me. The snow globe and little perfume bottle keychain were cute but not $825 cute, to me anyway. Thank you for posting this!
This is like the high end version of the Sephora advent calendar. I can't believe they put stuff like that in a box that's almost a $1000.
You did a fabulous job keeping your composure and staying positive. I kind of feel like Chanel is seeing just how idiotic we can be, rushing out and buying their products without using any of our brain cells at all. I mean, this is disgusting in my opinion. There are fun calendars, silly calendars, but this one is a slap in the face. Next year they’re going to give us their used tissues… and people will line up to buy it.

It actually makes me angry that Chanel is so full of themselves that they are making a joke of this. The price vs what they chose to put in this is a joke, they know it. I don't fault anyone for choosing to spend their money anyway they want no issue with that at all, but it leaves me angry at the brand. And I agree, Dior, Guerlain etc they are all doing it. There are advent calendars that are actually great value ( or at least good value - Charlotte Tilbury is a good example), and a fun way to test and try out many of a brands best items (in smaller sizes)...I definitely enjoy this unboxing and your very thorough review.
After seeing this review, I'm positive I will spend my Christmas budget on something else. I have no need for stickers and miniature ornaments, lol. Thank you for showing it!

If you would take the inside of the box and remove the "Chanel" name, it would be a gift for some kid with some testers and stickers prob not worth more then 19usd

I loved the gorgeous huge perfume box packaging. Erin, your husband could get in touch with your SA at the boutique and buy small items throughout the year and refill your calendar for either the month leading up to your birthday or for next Christmas. It makes a beautiful display for your office/filming room.
Not as bad as I initially thought, but of course could have been better. The full size items were nice and a few of the gifty items like the snowglobe and pin were cute. The outer box will look great displayed for sure. I opted for the Dior Rouge Dior Minaudiere Limited Edition Lipstick Case this year. Thanks for the unboxing!!

Loved the unboxing and your reactions :) I would never purchase it myself but if you are contemplating of other advent calendars i would love to see the Dior one and the Chantecaille which has several full size items in it and seems a good value.

Hi Erin, if you have a planner you can always use those stickers to decorate a planner quite nicely. 😉😘❤ A bit expensive for planner stickers. The box is the best part of the calendar for sure. Great decor for a beauty room !Enjoy your purchase!

I saw this one yesterday in Iceland! This is definitely a collectors item and I think most of these luxury calendars are. I feel like some like the cult beauty one are way more interesting and actually meant for people to discover new products and use them, they aren’t cheap at 200/300 either. Honestly, this kind of feels like a rip off and I can’t imagine the profit margin they are getting on these.
I agree! There are much better calendars out there for people interested in the products! I need to check out the Cult Beauty but I've seen LookFantastic's calendar and that one does have a value. The luxury calendars are for show only :/ Not the best buy unless you are a collector. xx
This, exactly! I was racking my brain comparing the (minimal, I’m assuming) production cost versus retail price..it’s mind-boggling. I frankly don’t see the value even if you are a collector.
Enjoyed the video Erin! The least Chanel could have done to respect the collector's sentiments, is to replace at least 2 of the sticker boxes with an eyeshadow and a blush, even if mini sizes! I think all major brands, Dior, etc should send their advent calendars to Erin in PR, so she could do the unboxing honours!!! 😆
Thank you for showing this, I love the overall large box of the advent calendar. However, there is so much packaging that is kind of a turn off. I'm glad you were able to get your hands on this.

Erin, some of the gifts are pretty cool- like the ceramic item, snow globe and a couple of other things. I think you could probably sell some of those random items like the stickers, bracelet and pouch and make some of your money back.
Overall it was slightly better than I expected but still that price tag....😲

Of course you are going to purchase it. I would’ve too if I had a channel like yours. You will for sure make most, if not all, your money back for being the first to unbox this.
