I wish there was 40k content like this everywhere over UA-cam. This is exactly what us budget kit bashers need baby!!!
I'm working on more!
ua-cam.com/video/sQ_aBtFsO7A/v-deo.html
One additional cost saving measure. The Runtherd that comes with the Gretchin (the Grots) can be modeled as your Weird Boy. What's a Weirdboy look like? He's a boy with a stick on a 40mm base (which you would have to pick up separately--but hey). The Runtherd (who at present is not terribly useful aside for fluff reasons) comes with a stick with two optional tops. Ditch the arm holding back the squig, hand him a stick and you're golden. Paint him with some blue-white lighting effects pouring from his eyes and you have a fat sullen-looking Weirdboy of your very own, brimming over with 'WAAGH!' energy.
So for the best deal in 40k you can get yourself a what-you-see-is-what-you-get psychic headquarters choice, and 10 Grots (11 models sans one tournament-legal 40mm base) for
That's brilliant!
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Another is that as long as you have flamers or rockits to spare, you never need a dedicated part to turn any big shoota into a kombi weapon. :)
Built one recently by taking the front bits (tank & barrel) off a flamer while replacing them with a piston to make a hydraulic ram for my DIY commandos.
Between this video and learning the mantra of every kit is an ork kit, I think I'm just going to have to be an ork player now. Sorry Chaos daemons, maybe later.
Every kit is indeed an ork kit!
List building has always seemed so daunting to me. That’s why I just amassed a massive ammount of different types of Orks theoughout the years. Figured I’d deal with the list later. You make it seem easy and fun to mix and match different units and go to town with them. Gets me motivated to continue building and painting more boyz for the green tide.
That's the beautiful thing about orks. Just build a ton of them and the loadout really doesn't even matter. Just make units out of the ladz you have.
This is literally exactly how I expanded my Ork forces on the cheap over the years! Great content!
I'll throw in that Savage Orruk boxes are a great source of bodies to make cheap Beast Snaggaz.
I was a lucky git though, and managed to bag 3 of the Ork halves of Assault on Black Reach boxes back in the day. Man it was nice being the little brother army faction...
Another thing you can do is if you wanna add in some AOS Ardboyz you get 15 guys from that box to use as unique looking melee focused Nobz and can use the standard bearer as a Nob with Waaagh! Banner.
Now that's brilliant! I'm gonna be a Deffskull and steal that from you. :)
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Feel free to, I got it from another channel myself haha. If you have spare Meganobz killsaw bits they go great on the Ardboys bodies.
I use a lot of those 'Ard Boy 'eds on my Mega Armor Nobs (they just look better I think), as well as a few of the regular nobs. One of them I converted a bit with some oversized horns and a skull crest for my Warboss's head. Makes him look a bit like the 'Darth Vader' of Orks. I had to build two, one for him in daily wear and one in his Mega Armor which is a converted Artel W Iron Nookah wit speshul 'umie tactical rock!
Link to the Artel W Nookah ad: ua-cam.com/video/0HQuOSuT00E/v-deo.html
getting a cheap 3D printer for extra bits will do wonders if you're into that, I already have most of these kits I can buy the 2008 Boyz kit & the Gretch(maybe 2) $80 the gretchin are $21 right now & the old 11 boyz kit is around $39 as of posting this 4/21/24
i have a Space Marine Army right now & my 2nd army is Orks this was pretty useful for a newish player thanks.
I believe I've finally accepted that Imma Ork player at heart. Def gonna use this as some guidelines for sure. Starting off with the Kommandos since I have them already from Kill Team haha.
Was curious about the Kitbashed Tankbusta Squad. I'm assuming me only use 4 Rockets for the 5 man Squad since one of them is equipped with the Rokkit Pistols while another has only a Tankhammer. Just trying to think of ways to show which is which on the models themselves. 🙃
Yeah the rules changed hard on the Tankbustaz since I made this. I'm working on an update overall, and the Tankbustaz are a tough one without a lot of kit bashing.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Yeah I'm noticing that as I've thought more on. Maaaaybe could like snip the rockets off of one Rokkitt Launcher. Than cut off the barrel of their sluggas and put the previously snipped rockets on there? Just a rando thought on the matter.
Also just wanted to say ty for the this vid in general! It's content like this (and your video on Boyz) that REALLY made me wanna hammer down and start on Orks. You're a total legend. 😎
Right now I've started an ork army. Got my Combat patrol, bought grot box, and now I'm going to convert runtherd into weirdboy - that's a battalion detachment for cheap. Plus I've converted two kustom mega kannons out of two DA plasma storm battery cannons, trukk part and some random bits (like rhino parts and third party stuff).
Now that sounds proppa orky! Love the converted mega kannons.
awesome!! thats what i have always loved about the orks!! well done!
Amazing. Simply amazing. Just started looking into orks. I'm 100% doing this
My homie sent me this after my wife got me the Combat Patrol for Xmas and I’m following it exactly to get my first army off the ground, thanks so much!
That's awesome!
Can I ask though do you have to kitbash the kommandos to get the tankbustas and burna boyz and stuff? Like I wanted to get the kommandos so I can also play Kill Team with my buddy so if I wanted to do that and have the 1000 point army like in the video would I have to get another box of Kommandos?
@@qutaybahimran7029 no no no, that's the beauty of it! You build the Kommandos with whatever loadout you want. You use the spare parts that come in the Kommando kit for the conversions!
Awesome, that’s what I thought I just wanted to make sure, I’m really new and super overwhelmed but again this video is an excellent break down on how to hit the ground runnin so thanks again!
Thank you for recommendation! Started my orks army with some scratch bashing (now I have Battlewagon, gunwagon, deffcopta and grot tank).
Instantly subscribed thanks to that intro. Take all my teeth
excellent advice!!!! thanks Boss!!!!
I've had the Black REACH set 20 boys 5nob 3 defcopta 1 warboss for a few years, then I got a grecen set 1 kilcan
That's a great army start! That's the base of my personal Ork army as well. The new Battleforce would be a great next step for you, or even last year's Killdakka Warband if you can find it.
Thank you! I was thinking of getting into the hobby and this was exactly what I needed. Subscribed :-D
Thanks for being here!
finally .. ! the video I was looking for .. why is it that other channels don't seem to get that new people need this ! not that other stuff .. this ! This is real 40k education . thanks bro.
You got it! Cheap 40K is my jam, so expect more!
Looking to get back into warhammer. Spent most of my child hood playing and fell out of love. Started with nids which was a mistake then chaos and then found my true calling with orks. Played 3rd edition ork codex I believe.
But I’m gonna get the 10th and start fresh. Love some of the new squigg related stuff so gonna base an army around that ❤❤
Welcome back to the Waaaaagh!!!
please do updated version of this please :)
Working on it!
NIce vid! Also the spare Runtherd can easily become a weirdboy or a mek with Kustom forcefield just using his own stick
Great video! Thanks
I think this is a good way to start Orks.
But Orks is certainly one of the more expensive armies to start with.
I mean under $300 for 1,000 points might be cheap for Orks.
But the new battleforce boxes for example give you 1,000 points worth of army for $210. In one box, without any tweaking or kitbashing necessary.
which battle force boxes do you reccomend?
Cool army, thanks for video
Played my first game of 10th against Orks about a month ago. Bought the Ork Boyz box the same day. Glad I found your video to use as a shopping list to get a new git's Waaaaugh! started!
Welcome to the Waaagh!!!
Fun video, thanks!
This is amazing! I was given like 100 boyz and I'm in process of making them storm boyz and nobs.. bought the commandos ×2 do great ideas
Im considering getting back into 40k. I still have most of my orks from 3rd edition
You should do it! They are all still usable in the game!
Buy a box of Mek Gunz. Buy a Trukk. MAKE ALL THE MEK GUNZ!
Add regular Grots as crew as you see fit.
Orkz iz da best; 'cause it ain't 'bout winnin', itz 'bout takin' fingz apart!
Thanks for a fun break down of the options.
Making new fings is da best part of da hobby!
I've only played WH40K a few times, mostly kill team and a home-brew version with kill team sized armies we played before kill team was a thing, but Orks are definitely my favorite in lore and play style!!! Go Green for 10th Edition!!! 💚🐸💚
I built my Meganobz box into 1 Warboss in mega armour + 2 Big Meks in mega armour with custom forcefields (3HQ units in one box). Yes, one of them looks like a tellyporta blasta, but he's basically carrying a giant energy reactor on his back
That's brilliant!
Great video, I have done something similar making tankbusters from the new boy kit.
That sounds cool! Would love to see them!
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta I can post some photos on your fb post. I have just primed them / assembled them.
I just bought a box of old boyz, kommandos, and Lootas from my FLG because of this (I already have a Combat patrol and Grots).
Excellent Waaaagh! Next purchase should be some trukks.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta I'm going to loot an unfinished Chimera for the first truck, as they're Blood Axes. Maybe loot another from an old Rhino. It is both cheaper and more Orky.
@grozwald dats a right proppa big mek dere! I like having a dakka jet kit for the bits to orky up all da loot as they come with so many extras. Rhinos, Chimeras, Goliaths, and the AdMech hover transport all make fantastic trukks.
Just heard about this in the poorhammer guys, new to the warhammer stuff, just for the name alone I had to subscribe!
Comment for the Skull Throne
Would Goff be a good choice for a clan? I’d like to eventually get and build their big character ghaz.
I just got everything outlined above and a weirdnob to start out along side the codex and deck. Can’t wait to start painting this weekend.
Goffs are currently the current go to with orks, but because of ghaz they'll pretty much always be dolid
Could I ask your advice on a kitbash? I haven't done anything custom yet, but I love the idea of making it look like the grot on top of my Warboss in Mega Armor is the one calling the shots, a la Master Blaster from Beyond Thunderdome. What sort of parts would you recommend getting to accomplish this? I thought a mask or a diver's helmet to cover the ork's face might help, but I can't find any parts the right size, not to mention the price of some 3D-printed bits off Etsy. I'm thinking about using the grot head with a flight cap on from my Stormboyz kit, but I might want to use him on a stormboy too lol
That sounds like an awesome idea! I agree with the head swaps, I would get the Loota/Burna kit (which you want anyways because it's the best for extra bits) as there are multiple facemasked heads in it that could be used. Other alternatives include the Nob and Meganob kits as they both have wacky heads that could be a good option. Using random bits to make a "speaking tube" from the grot down to the Warboss's ear would be great, too. Then the grot is the "voice of Gork and/or Mork" that the Warboss keeps hearing.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Not a bad idea! Would those heads be big enough? Warbosses are bigger than Nobs and I'm worried about the helmet making his head appear shrunken.
Mad max orks, awesome!
Would you have a list on which parts from each set get used or something like that, I wanna do this but having a bit of trouble following the mix and match of it, just which units get built from their kits and which ones get mixed.
Here's the first installment:

Any chance theres a step by step guide on kitbashing these models? Im new and this is my first army so i want to make sure i do it right. Great video, super helpful. Thank you
For clarification, i mean like a7 in komados goes with arms c4 and c5 type deal. I understand the heads are creator’s choice
Absolutely! Working on a step-by-step long form video for kit bashing orks.
Awesome i cant wait for it. My minis just came in the mail today and i cant wait to put em together

Interesting video. As someone who is new to 40K is this still a good way to get into Orks?
Great question! No, this video is from the prior edition (9th) of Warhammer 40K. I have made an updated one for 10th, and even that is going to be obsolete soon because the new Ork Codex is about to be released. The safest bet right now is the current Combat Patrol box, and if you can find it, the Beast Snagga Stampede army box from the holidays. Otherwise, hold tight for the new releases.
how much army points is in the combat patrol box?
I subscribed 👍
Glad to have you!!
I would love to see more lists and tips about what comes with more stuff than needed and how to easily get more bodies that aren’t just 3D printing them
Here you go!
ua-cam.com/video/sQ_aBtFsO7A/v-deo.html
It's the 2018 box you're talking about right with the 11 boyz?
Correct!
amzn.to/45My5cC
Following this now. All good until the Tankbusta unit. The available Rokkits have different arm to body fittings. The two Rokkits from the CP box don't fit on the Old Boyz bodies (CP are push fit), same for the Kommandos, the Rokkit arms dont fit on the Old Boyz. Happy with getting the Burnas etc but just watch out for the incompatible Rokkits.
You just take the whole model into the Tankbusta unit. So 2 CP guys, 2 old boyz, and the Kommando and that's your unit. Put regular boyz back into the other squads.
Hey, would be awesome if your respond all g if not. But i own the conbat patrol old one and box of old boys and i ordred the stomoa box what would you recommend as my next kit
Meganobz for your warboss to lead!
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta thanks a ton ordering one now. Thanks for spreading the wagghhh
I think at this time Necrons were probably the cheapest armor you could get to 1k points, especially if youre shopping on ebay for those starter set halves. Although not as fun as this 1k point list as this has many unique sculpts. I think for the same price as this ork list you could probably get 1.5k points of necrons. Especially if you're running 2 20 man blobs of warriors which is 500 points by itself.
Where did you get the fifth rocket from in these sets? I’m only counting 4. 2 in the cp, 1 in the boys set, 1 in the kommandos set.
There's only 4 rokkits in a Loota squad, you have to have 1 Mek.
Not sure when exactly this video came out (it says 1 year ago but at the same time it could be 23 months old :) ) , so maybe a lot changed (im new to 40k) but the list above is now on 895pts?
1x Warboss in mega armour 80pts
20x ork boys 170pts
3x Deffkoptas 100pts
1x Deff dread 130pts
Nob with waagh! banner 70pts
11x Gretchin 40pts
5x Burna boyz 60pts
5x Tankbustas 110pts
10x Kommandos 135pts
Or I missed anything?
This video was last edition (9th) and all points were updated for the current edition (10th). I released an updated video: ua-cam.com/video/C1HpmBL1uIM/v-deo.html
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Awesome. Thank you and will watch it now
Combat patrol and kildakka warband ez
Killdakka Warband was the Christmas box from 2 years ago and is NLA. Even if you did find one, it has *terrible* synergy with the Combat Patrol.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta o yeah that’s make sense thanks i wont to buy them but now no thanks
Does this work anymore with some of the unit size and composition changes of 10th?
Great question! On first glance it does except the Tankbustaz requiring the pistols and hammer now. I think making an updated one for 10th is a good idea.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta That would be much appreciated! I’m a noob to 40k I ordered the combat patrol. I guess you don’t have to pay extra points to have the rocket launchers and stuff in your boyz anymore?
@comradezy correct, now there's no reason to do the conversions. I've been playing with a couple of different new 1000 point lists for 10th for as cheap as possible.
Is this all still valid for 10th edition? Looking to buy into an army for the new codex but want to grab any of the old kits for kit bashing before they aren’t available any more.
Great question! We're not sure because the Ork Codex just got announced yesterday and it will be ~3 weeks until it's in people's hands. I can say that if you don't own the current Combat Patrol yet that you need to buy it ASAP!
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Thanks for the reply! I’ll be grabbing the current Combat Patrol ASAP. Sounds like I need to wait to see what can be kit bashed for 10E after the codex has been out in the wild for a bit.
Would love to hear your thoughts on existing or new options for kit bashing once the dust settles.
@@Case909 you can never go wrong with the older Boyz kit (contains 11 minis), the Nobz kit, and the Lootas kit. They are all chock full of spares.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Good advice! I will look out for deals on those too. Really love the Kommandos so probably getting that Kill Team starter set to for something else to play! Jumping fully into it! 😁
@Case909 the Kommando kit is probably the best looking Orks ever made. They are so good!
Would this work if i chose Goffs instead of Death Skulls?
Great question and the answer is yes! Clan doesn't lock you into rules anymore in 10th Edition, so paint them however you want.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Thank you!
ORKS IS DA BEST
How do you convert the boss nob into a nob with wagh banner?
Literally just glue the boss pole included in the kit to his hand. Easiest conversion ever!
Does anybody know how to do the ork boyz kitbashes??
Here you go!
ua-cam.com/video/sQ_aBtFsO7A/v-deo.html
Are you able to do a revamp of this video? I'd love to start Orcs.
It's in the works!
I guess I fell into the trap, because I already built my 20 boyz from the Combat Patrol as they are, but can't you board all those shoota boys together on a trukk and have them shoot from the back as trukk boyz?
The advantage of Trukk Boys is the ability to disembark after moving, allowing a huge charge range. You want Choppa boyz for that. It's okay, just chuck the shootas all together in a single squad that can sit on your home objective.
Oi diz mezzage izz apruvvebd by da warbozz
Go second hand...get yourself 1000pts for half of that.
Can't you accomplish this with two combat patrols of any army?
Yes but no. Most Combat Patrols come with an HQ you can only take one of and are not balanced in doubling the units. The point of this is a complete, well rounded army that can do any of the missions.
@@DaRedWunzGoFasta Ah. You're talking for tournament or non-crusade use. My mates and I treat this like a simplified version of DnD if I'm honest. So not a perspective I had thought about.
Nope! LOL!
ORKZ are the master of kitbashing in this game! Undisputed! Untouchable! Unbeatable! WAAAGH!!!
i dont understand if this is legal rule wise or not, i tought that you can only use what comes in the box of the units
It is very legal. A lot of units come with the same basic trooper. An ork boy is an ork boy, the only difference is the weapons for the data sheet. I'm showing you how you can leverage all of the weapons in the boxes for maximum return on your dollars.
Alternatively you could buy half of a custodes
GW Already made this video obsolete with the Boarding Patrol box set! You get everything on this list for EVEN CHEAPER now. Awesome video though. Thanks for making it.
I'm tired of people thinking about Warhammer in terms of price. Yes. Warhammer is very top heavy with unit prices. That is undeniable. GW's profit margins are insane. But there IS a value proposition for the player, and that is clean tables containing almost zero weirdos, and highly invested players who love the game. If the game was cheaper, it would attract a bunch of weirdos like DnD did. Call me elitist, I don't care.
Another thing that bugs me is people who think getting into Warhammer involves buying a whole 2000 point army right away, and isn't something you build up over time with single purchases. I'm tired of my favorite stuff being over-run with twitter weirdos demanding changes. I hope GW raises the prices even more, in fact.
The boarding patrol? You mean that box that was only released for a limited time? I understand that the boarding patrol is objectively better value but you can't say something is truly irrelevant when the company takes away the item that is superior
@@cainfagan3982 My local Game Store still has multiple of these boarding patrols. If they were limited run, they aren't doing a very good job lol
I love Orks.. But gimme Brian nelson boyz all day, any day - over the new trash.
