  • My top 5 tips on how to make better looking Ork boyz.
    1. Use multiple kits - stormboyz, lootas, bikers. Old WHFB kits if you can track them down.
    2. Build better poses
    3. Use the waist ball joint
    4. Use third party bits
    5. Cut up arms at the shoulder to repose

As someone who picked up the combat patrol orks, I can tell you that you can make the duplicate ork boyz look great with little to no effort of kitbashing. I'd heavily recommend using some spare deff dread ork icon parts as masks for the ork boys. The look really cool when used that way.

I positioned my arm in that position. It wasn't comfortable but I could do it. I agree with the point though, but it's not impossible to position your arm like that. I'd suggest if you want those arms up in the air, the trick is to keep the hand inline with the head or forward of the head.

Tip for converting kommandos or blood axes. Some 1:35 kits or 1:42 kits of soldiers have pouches and backpacks, helmets that can be looted. Wehicle and soldier accesory kits for scale models is a good place to find gibbuns, bits and bobs.

An excellent video and I'm also a new subscriber. I've been collecting Orks since I was first introduced to the game in 1991 and these are great tips.
One of my biggest pet peeves is Orks that are modeled so hunched over that they seem to be looking at the ground. This can be alleviated during basing by putting something under the forward most foot to rock them back slightly.
A 6th tip would be to clean the mold lines off the models thoroughly. Mold lines and the connection points to the sprue left on the model show up very easily once either the primer, a wash, or drybrushing is applied over them. A set of metal files and a mold line removal tool are worth their weight in gold to remove these. Be careful if you use a hobby knife for this process as it can ruin the model and/or injure you. Bits of plastic can fly off the model and into your eye or the eye of anyone nearby, too.
A good set of flat snips helps with removal from the sprue, especially if you only use them for this purpose.
An optional step, but one I do with every model I am prepping is to drill out the barrels of their sluggas and shootas. Sure, it adds time to the prep of 90 to 120 Ork Boyz, but it makes them look so much better once painted and on the table.
I swear that the dice seem to roll better for models that have their gun barrels drilled out.
Doing those two things really takes your painting up to the next level and they are both easy to master. After 120 Ork Boyz and several units of Gretchin, you'll have it mastered, too!

    Tip number 6.
Get some plasticard, one of those combi-packs with several sizes are ideal. Preferably two thicknesses of plastic tube as well where one fits in the other.
With that, you can make armour plates, shoota barrels, entire choppas, glyphs and much more with just simple cuts and some imagination.
Cut a small bit of tube, put it on the other, you get a step. This is useful for adding strength and good looks to custom weapons handles and/or barrels.
This together with greenstuff leaves zero missed possibilities. One can make anything orky really easy.

    • @Klomster88
      @Klomster88 4 роки тому

@Lord Inquisitor Shadowlord Ah yes, styrene.
That name always confused me, since it reminds so much of polystyrene.
But that's the stuff! Go nuts with it. It's always good to have some styrene/plasticard when making models.
You never know when you want to add something, build a box, or a house, or a choppa, or an entire tank.
      Good luck :)

This video for example is one I've had jotted down for my orksentials series and you're literally hitting a bunch of my notes as you go so I'd say we think very much a like sir! I'll hold off doing anything that crosses over anytime soon as much as possible.
this was a very well considered and planned episode, executed perfectly! Keep them coming at this quality and there will be no stopping you mate!
Very excited for your next video and seeing your channel grow!
We should definately do some collaborations!
Tell you one thing I found interesting, you saying to choose 3rd party or official heads and stick with it. I hadnt really ever taken that stance myself but you did argue it well and made me consider your point and even made me stop for a moment and wonder if I myself might regret not doing that, but then I have SO many different heads from so many 3rd partys that I just feel my boyz are full of variety rather than all hailing from the same great grandaddy, but then I play freebootaz so a rag tag band is kinda the point for me!

Yeah the black reach Orks are great. I forgot to mention in the video but the set of 3 boyz contain unique choppas and sluggas that aren't found on the regular boyz sprue, so are another useful resource.
There used to be two boar kits for WHFB, savage Orcs and regular Orcs. Sadly the regular one has been discontinued (real shame, it's a fantastic kit) and the only one left is the Savage Orc kit. The choppas are great for snakebites, but would look too low-tech for other Ork armies.

      Welcome to the hobby!
I'm not a 40k tournament player I'm afraid (yet) so I can't say for definite. I play 40k casually rather than at tournaments, but I'm wanting to change that when the pandemic is resolved. Somewhere like DakkaDakka or on a channel like Vanguard Tactics would be the best place to ask I think.
For official GW run tournaments I know that you'll not be able to use 3rd party models. Managers do have some discretion in stores but really it's best to assume you won't be allowed to use them.
For 3rd party tournaments I cannot imagine there being any problems. I've only ever been to one and had absolutely no problems (the opposite in fact - people really liked the 3rd party models), but I've no idea if that's representative.

Saying that arm with the chopper didnt look normal while talking about a fantasy game makes no sence

Anatomy still needs to make sense though, and his point was more about the fact that the arm was pulled back way too much.

Tip #4 - That's why this video has dislikes; unless it's an offical Games Workshop tournament then mix & match as you like. Gaming in Warhammer stores with 3rd party parts!? No problem. Adding 3rd party pieces to GW kits!? Heck yes. Again; only tournaments need to be 100% GW products, regular gaming no.

If games workshop tournaments ban you for having third party kits, then thats fine. Eventually nobody will play in tournaments, and games workshop will not only lose their custom in miniatures to 3D printing and 3rd party groups who produce models at acceptable prices, unlike the sick joke territory GW are leaving behind for even worse pricing - but they'll lose the custom for the tourney's too. It will eventually be overtaken by 3rd party tourneys as the participation rate for GW stuff falls off a cliff.
This is our hobby, not a GW printing press, they can suck a fat one and deserve to go down. The fans will take it from here.

I don't think it's particularly worth to make ork boyz so unique because you're simply going to be making so many of them. Sculping sucks, resin work sucks, and honestly most of the other plastic ork kit arms look better on themselves to keep them looking distinctive and unique from the line troops.
If you're making a kill team or whatever they're called, go nuts, but it's a bit too ambitious otherwise.

man... with this video we could almost think gw stuff is cheap... but no sry, we can't do that. We can't buy more and more for gw mistakes.

Good tips, body twisting and arm posing in particular, man why dont people use this on their figures!
Us not using them made GW take it away from the new primaris line... See what you did you nitwits!
