Power comes with the absence of love. An amazing observation from an incredibly powerful character in LaCroix. We never learn......do we?

Power does come with the absence of love. But without love, that power can't be restrained or controlled and will only bring further misery and damage to oneself and to others.

"love exists, rages within; the silent scream of endless pain." So true.

No, we never learn. We never do, my friend. And in that lay both our greatest tragedy and our greatest glory.

The saddest part of LaCroix's character is that this monologue comes from a very deep and wounded place. Nickolas' sister, Fleur, was courted by LaCroix. She was left mortal and died 'pure' at Nick's insistence; the bitterness and jaded ideals LaCroix carried with him for nearly 300 years, being expressed to Nick on over the radio.

Daathaan FLEUR married and had a son Nicholas nephew and LaCroix notice how much he look like her he had her eyes.

When I was a young teenager watching this show for the first time I absolutely idolized Nicholas Knight. I've recently started re-watching the show (I'm almost through the second season) and I'm finding myself becoming rather annoyed with Nick and having more and more sympathy for LaCroix.

Nick himself is like a young teenager - idealistic, rebelling, trying to find himself, unsure of his identity. Lacroix - that's us now. We've been around the block. we've felt pain. We've seen a lot. We have known pain, and given half a chance, we can monologue about it endlessly. We know the frustration of trying to guide the headstrong young.

    "Love.
A blip on the monitor of involuntary human response.
A hiccup of emotion when compared with envy, hatred, lust.
And just who was this St. Valentine?
    A bishop.
Roman, third century, got his head sliced off.
    Ouch.
For marrying lovers against his emperor's decree.
You see, Claudius II believed that men made better warriors unmarried.
Power comes with the absence of love.
Love drains us of our strength.
    We never learn, do we?
And you say that love conquers all.
Well not for you, St. Valentine.
    Not for me.
    Not for any of the...heartbroken.
Does love really exist in this hedonistic world of ours?
Or is it only our selfish needs, our own desires that fuel the potion?
Does she love *me*, love *me* not?
    What does it really matter?
    What hellish alchemy ever does?
    Just say no to love.
A carnival kewpie and a...electric blanket will give you more satisfaction.
    Don't give them your heart.
Like some sweet on the track roll steel wheels right over her precious body.
She's just a girl, the apple of your pie in the sky.
Valentine her good. Goodbye, my friend.
Pass your days in one night stands.
Tear apart the threads, the web of love's truth, where strings of beauties wrap your heartstrings around your neck.
    Love exists, rages within.
A silent scream of endless pain.
    A hellish alchemy indeed.
    Without equal.
Not death, not hell itself, but a precious, precious flower.
    Long withered, and gone."

Ohh, but we never actually saw Lacroix stake Nicholas... Did we? 😊 Perhaps he simply lulled him to sleep with a blow to the head... Knowing that he would never submit to Natalie being brought across... Even though it was the only way to preserve her. And Lacroix did have a genuine skill for such subtleties. Come to think of it, Schanke took a night time flight, yes? He could have met a vampire who enjoyed airline travel, and who took a liking to our gentle detective. And do we really know what became of Janette? Do we? No... No, there are enough ambiguities to allow all of them to still be alive.

    • @TheRivrPrncess
      @TheRivrPrncess 3 роки тому

@@Ghost_Os No. The actor who played Nick said in an interview that Lacroix did kill Nick. But that didn't have to be the end of the show. There was always another story to be told by another remorseful vampire. There were many viewers who did want a cure to be found and would have stayed with the show.

    • @Ghost_Os
      @Ghost_Os 3 роки тому +1

@@TheRivrPrncess True. But ignoring post series interviews, and just going with how the show was filmed, it's completely doable.

Look up the interviews with GWD. They left it that way on purpose because there was the possibility of a movie after they were cancelled, that never materialized.
