His quotes as the NightCrawler were usually thought-provoking, while his conversations with Nick were comical and/or witty. No wonder Bennet was the only actor to win an award for this show.

LaCroix ended up becoming the most interesting character in this series, especially after he began his stint as "the Nightcrawler" on radio. The writers really took full advantage of Nigel Bennett's style and charisma and it made Forever Knight a far better series than it otherwise might have been.

Think it was "Caller". I to thought that.. . just the accent. "I remain a friend to all, and as always. When you have a friend in the night caller, Who needs enemy's". Makes more sense,
The idea of a Roman General alive in the 20th Century,always made for a fascinating plotline.

When the producers decided that Nick only wounded Lacroix instead of killing him as originally written and carried out, it was the best decision they ever made. Geraint Wyn Davies had great chemistry with Catherine Disher, Deborah Duchene and John Kapelos. His chemistry with Nigel Bennett, however, was the best.
Yeah, season 3 was so good because of him.
To be fair. He burst into flames and was gone.

I agree Nick's & Lucien's chemistry on the FK series was the best out of them all. The entire cast gelled well as a cohesive unit itself👍💯
He was a great character. An evil bastard, but he was always a pleasure to listen to.

Of all the evil vampires I've seen, Lacroix is the best one. Nigel Bennett was perfect!
LaCroix is more amoral rather than evil. And, having at one time been a Roman general, he did have his own sense of honour.
LaCroix was the greatest character ever.
Perfect compilation that shows how great Lacroix made that show, and how empty it would have been without him.
Thank goodness Forever Knight was released on DVD. I was afraid they would NEVER come out!
I miss his scenes from "Father's Day" and "Fever." He had some great lines in both. But this is great collection. I'm so glad he stayed all 3 seasons! They should reboot this series if only for him to come back. :)
One of my favorite shows! Part of the early 1990s "crime time After prime time" lineup! After reading Anne Rice's books, I realized that the show creators took so many themes from her books! Nicky, the violin playing, ancient vampires from Egypt! Love it!

"Lacroix" literally means "The Cross", interesting name for a vampire.
There have been long discussions on how/why he had that name. But he wasn't always a vampire. Started life as a Roman soldier and nobleman named Lucius. One thought was that the nickname it was related to the Roman penchant for crucifixion.
Amazing show and best vampire ever.

I know this is a really old comment... But if you think about it...
We never actually saw Natalie breathe her last; we never actually saw LaCroix stake Nicolas. LaCroix could have simply knocked Nick out, brought Natalie across with the skill for subtle things which few other than he possessed... And as for Schanke, alright, his plane went down... Though I seem to remember it being a night time flight... Perhaps there was a vampire on board who took a liking to him, and brought him across as well... Or simply exited the plane with him before it's rather clumsy and fatal touch down.
It was a strong, and daring way to end the series... But there is wiggle room if we want to think of our beloved characters as still being around.
@@Ghost_Os I think I love you for this comment. I loved this series when it came out and I hated the ending too and how they did Jeanette, Vashon, Urse, and especially Natalie. I'm in the process of rewatching the entire series and I'm on the last episode of the last season. I was not looking forward to watching what I initially thought was Nick and Natalie die, but I think I'll go with your theory that Lacroix simply knocks Nick out and turns Natalie. That way they're all still around and alive and Natalie is helping Nick get over his self hatred and realize that just because you're undead doesn't mean you're dammed.
@@Valeska687 Perfect way to look at it 😊 I personally feel Jeanette could still be around as well. I mean, I believe season 1 featured (possibly concluded with, I can't recall) LaCroix being nailed to a wall with a burning oversized stake through the heart. Granted, he's older than Jeanette, but still... It establishes wiggle room, even under extreme circumstances.
I grew up with the show, and always loved it. Own the boxed set on DVD and still watch it. Geraint Wyn Davies said in an interview years after the show concluded, that even down to the last minute, he was unsure; stake, no stake? He directed that episode, and the writer was apparently conflicted. I think that may have played a roll in the decision to present the "staking" in the manner in which it was. Maybe it was just an artistic decision, but I stick with my interpretation 😉

@@Ghost_Os ooo!! Yes! Yes! Jeanette is still alive too! It's cannon, for I have declared it so based on this impeccable bit of logic! Lol. Thanks for cheering me up. I just finished up the last episode and I might have to restart the entire series again with these new interpretations in mind.
@@Ghost_Os do you have any ideas on how Vashon and Urse might still be alive too? I loved them as well. I really enjoyed their father/daughter relationship. You really don't see that to much and I would get all excited when they had scenes together.
The one thing I really liked about Lacroix was his complexity. He was not just a one sided or one dimensional character, he was a complex personality, there are so many different shades to him - evil, vulnerable, romantic, arrogant, intellectual, sensual and of course charismatic. His relationship with Nick was equally complex. They had a sort of love/hate relationship, but ultimately Lacroix did care and worry about his son, and I think in the end Nick did reciprocate. Perhaps losing everything helped them mend their fences in the end, though I really doubt Lacroix could ever bring himself to truly end his son's life.
Of all the things I saw Lacroix do on that show, I remember how shocked I was too see that he was whipped by his daughter.
Often overlooked, this series was awesome and with one of the most memorable and charismatic villains ever.
It's no wonder that Nigel Bennett won an award for this role.

Never understood Why Nick and LaCroix was at odds when the show first started. I mean in the flashbacks they got a long for Years then on the first Episode They wanted to kill each other but when LaCroix Comes back in Season 2 They become good friends again and don't want to kill each other no more.
Imagine if lacroix met spike, damon, and klaus. We would reach levels of snark never thought possible. lol

This is how Real vampires talks. Old and unique words used in his quotes. Vampires should talk like lacroix or lestat from interview with a vampire or from queen of the damned. They should sound enigmatic ad not gay as them from twilight. It's just my opinion though nothing to take serious. Fk 3

To be free, Nick had to kill Lacroix. It was there the whole time, and we don't know, maybe he did it in the final scene of the last episode? But by then, the series had lost its charm, at the end of the second season, they had to wrench the series into a hard turn, Schanke died a stupid, unrelated death (passenger jet explosion mid-air) to exit, and they brought in a new girl (the Commissioner's daughter) and new types of vampires.

WHY wasn't this made into a video game!? Xbox One, PS4, and high level PC's would be the perfect platform. Not only that but Telltale Games would have a field day with the story. Look what they did for, "The Walking Dead," and, "Game of Thrones!"

I always thought that Forever Knight would be a good show to remake. Not to detract anything from the original series but I thought it would be interesting to see that show with a continual storyline format rather than an episodic one

Same here. It was, and still is, a great vampire show from a day before it was trendy to think vampires were cool. (f#%in Stephenie Meyer)

I really miss those old and classical vampires. What have they done with the vampires these days... a sparkling vampire, wow.. edward really gives the wrong idea of what a real vampire looks like.
With sparkles - how can they be the dark, broody, tortured souls like Angel & Nick?????

This show should have ran as long as Law n Order, awesome show. I started to really hate Natalie though.
Season 1 was good. Season 2 was great. Season 3 had some poignant moments and good character development but as a whole was subpar relative to the other 2. It's been 23+ years. I forget if there were any stories of behind the scenes issues. I do remember there was a network change. It went from a major network to syndication networks. But I agree with the other poster they had lost their way with the storytelling.

@Phelan Schanke wasn't really replaced. The show was done and then was brought back. Not all the original actors were available.
@@aliciaborth3016 no, i heard that John Kapelos wanted to leave because he got tired of being Schanke. So they had to stage his death and bring in a new partner for Nick. I found all the new characters ok in Season 3, but I did not really like how things ended for Nick, Natalie and Lacroix. That was simply too melodramatic for my taste. Even though he wanted to find mortality, Nick would never have resorted to this insanity, and he definitely would not have asked Lacroix to stake him. He may not like being what he is, but Nick was never the type to be suicidal.
THey should remake this show.
+Claire Grimeng I kept hoping they'd do a spin off Lacroix series....although I'd wager Nigel Bennett may be getting a little long in the tooth for that now (pun intended), and I can't picture anyone else in the role.
Just saw Nigel Bennet on Dark Matter a few weeks ago as leader of a gang of criminals. I think he could still pull off LaCroix.
Gaelin Wade: I think he could do a spinoff but not on the schedule of the lead. But that's one of the strengths this show had. This show had some of the best background/setup writing I can remember and I don't think I've ever seen a show-stealer like Nigel Bennett as La Croix. He's better in the shadows than he is when he's in the spotlight.
When I had VHS copies of this show, Highlander, that old Fox show Werewolf: The Series, and other obscure horror-fantasy-sci-fi on video, I didn't need anything else on TV.
