• DOCUSERIES: Across Lab...
At 1.4 million km², the Labrador Peninsula is one of the last great wilderness areas on the planet. In 2018 I set a goal to cross its width by canoe.
From the Labrador Sea to Hudson Bay it was an estimated 1700 kilometre journey that would last 83 days.
With only my dog Saku, I would travel, up and down remote rivers, across enormous lakes, and over portages that were littered with both beauty and danger.
We would witness and camp in wilderness that few, if any, have ever seen and rewind back to a time when life was simpler.
Along the way, I filmed our experiences. Now, in a docuseries format, we bring it to life for you, right here on UA-cam.

@@mariebrasic4909 Thanks Marie, start small and dream big! Give Auric and Kai a scratch for me. Take care
You not swearing @ 15:11 is admirable. Rest assured I did it in your place, brother.
This is one of breaks series I have watched on UA-cam. One day I would like to do a trip like this
@@joesouting Thanks Joe happy to have you. Hope you make it happen. One small step at a time
What a thrill to see this new episode. I'm disabled and mostly bedridden and when I watch your adventures I feel as if I'm there experiencing life. For me it's a time of glorious escape. Thank you.
Thanks, happy to have you with us Zin, all the best 🛶
we agree...feel like we are right in his pocket...♥

This truly is his calling in life the video of him retrieving his canoe is awesome.
This channel should have 2 million subscribers. At least.
One day thanks for watching
Man, this adventure just keeps gettin better and better. Thanks for allowing us the chance to experience it with you Justin and Saku
Thanks for tuning in!
Saku gets almost as exited as you when you are about to land the fish.
He does thanks for watching take care!
This keeps getting better. As you clearly demonstrate, the only way to endure what nature throws at you, is show respect . You play by her rules. Strong memories indeed.
Thanks for watching, all the best Reginald 🛶🏕
Some big water there. Good few local guys caught up with you. That was a nice gesture from them. Feed of moose. Beer. Sunglasses!
For sure thanks for tunin in Dale, take care
Hello. I am apologize for my english, it's not my native language.
Found your channel a week ago and watched it non-stop.
I am really glad, that I stumbled upon your's videos and really hard to understand why you have such small amound of subscribers.
That said, amazing journey, thank you, and will wait for next one.
Happy to have you Pavel, much appreciated. Best wishes from Newfoundland
Your English is just fine.
45:14 Saku eating blueberries just like i do. that was worth the wait
Thanks! All the best
The Like to Dislike ratio says it all. This channel is about to explode!!
How can some d%#kbrain give a thumbs down to this real life adventure? This individual probably watches the staged production called, what is it, surviving, survived or survivor? Something like that anyway.
Thanks b'y!
Weird feeling for sure being out in the middle of a body of water like that without seeing land. Epic / legit etc. stuff man.
You know when Justin is seriously focused into what he is doing when his mouth is open and he starts biting the air! I love it, makes me smile every time he goes into focus mode.
I noticed that too lol.
You inspire us and make us feel proud to be Canadian
Keep er comin, National Geographic got nothing on your series!
Thanks, Andrew, all the best 🛶
If anything, you should be on the NatGeo channel.
Speechless again Justin my brother. Can’t say it enough...only one in a million (and I mean that) could do what you’ve done. Incredible job man. Can’t wait to next one 👍
Thanks Chuck happy to have ya, hopefully we cross paths someday , cheers
Hey chuck just found youre channel man, subscribed and looking forward to watching you're stuff. All tbe best from north Yorkshire, England 👍
Really an epic undertaking, Justin. I really appreciate all the thought required and discipline you showed, keeping an imagined audience in mind, on your own, with no one else to prompt you, and in the midst of everything else demanding your attention, to put these videos together. A truly extraordinary feat! Thanks so much. Can't wait for the next installment.
Hey buddy, Let me explain something to you! I know I'm a 70 year old man now, But when I was your age I was so tough and ruff I could whip a bears ass with a broom straw! BUT there is no way in he'll I could ever do what you do!! You and your dog are 2 tough guys You both has great bragging right!!! God Bless you buddy and your cool dog....
haha Thanks for watching, all the best Richard 🛶🏕
Ya! It's finally here! 🌳🌿🌲❤
🐶 ❤ U SAKU!

Thanks happy to have you both, take care out there on the west coast!
Nothing Better than another episode from Justin and Saku after another long day of preparing produce at the grocery store. Thanks Justin.
Thanks! All the best
This video series makes me so homesick now I'd pay $50 for a black fly bite to be back there again!! This is stirring up some serious desire to get back there and do some kind of trip!
Thanks for watching happy tp bring you there b'y, all the best Shawn 🛶🏕
This is my favorite of the series. I enjoyed the fishing great choice to cross when ya did.
Thanks Kenn all the best
Thank you Justin yet another brilliant video.
I still don’t understand how you have so many views with so few likes, it just don’t make sense to me, if people like to watch Justin’s videos the least they can do is hit the thumbs up,
Well alright , Justin's on TV . Going to pop a Guinness and watch the best darn wildlife show in Canada.
Thanks! All the best
Just woke up and saw the notification. Guess I'm staying in bed for another hour. :)
Greetings from Australia!
Thanks for watching, all the best 🛶🏕
This is the first channel i have hit the notification bell for. What an amazing journey! Thanks for bringing us along Justin.
Thanks Jonathan happy to have you, all the best.
Me too Jonathan.
Awesome Jusin, you're getting me through the lunch hour at work in the hospital, dreaming of being out in the wilderness but for now I'll happily live vicariously through you and Saku...
38:36 That shot.... instant wallpaper. Incredible.
Thanks Justin!!!! Just got your book which I will read to my wife, Marie in the evenings starting RIGHT AFTER WE WATCH THIS VIDEO!!!! Keep them coming as we cannot get enough of your adventures!
Thanks Hersh I appreciate the support!
I've had to make a few lake crossings in a fog following nothing but a compass bearing. It's eery and at times terrifying, but exhilarating when you reach your destination. Even after all these years, it's still a bit magical to me. Cheers!
Thanks! All the best
Paddling at night in such a remote place has to be peaceful yet also nerve-wracking
I like this version of "When Johnny comes marching home"
Of course I’ve got to leave soon for work when the new vid comes out.... just my luck. I know what I’m doing as soon as I get home. Watching this!!! Thx man be safe out there. Cheers from the West Coast !
Thanks Jason happy to have you, all the best.
What an epic journey, as always thanks for sharing the adventure! Can't wait for the next episode, and appreciate all the hard work that went into capturing and editing this - just making this journey is amazing but to think about the extra effort required to deal with cameras and batteries and narration. Just damn. Huge thanks!
Appreciate it Alex brother we're happy to have you as always, hope all is well with you and yours
Can't wait 9 more days! This has been amazing. Looking forward to the next one.
So many great things to say about your films. But I think everyone can agree, that is one lovely dog!
Can't get enough of this Justin. I've got to start at episode 1 again just to get more until #5 drops! Kudos brother.
Thanks Grey please do it's a big help for the channel. All the best
Hey Justin, I just wanted to say another good adventure in this series. It must be a great feeling to hook those beautiful lake trout. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks again for taking us all on the adventure with you.
Thanks, all the best 🛶
So glad you had your dog Saku with you on this adventure. What a great dog ❤
What a great bear sighting. It's nice to think of those wild beasts having all that land to themselves. May it never change
for sure i hope it never changes either. thanks for watching, all the best 🛶🏕
I know it's just you, but the production is outstanding! As if there were more people involved. This whole series has a bigger feel to it. I just wish the episodes were longer. I could watch your journey for hours. I guess put together it is hours long, but I'm always sad when each one ends.
Thank Arthur, take care 🛶
Che belle avventure Tu e Saku.... Un abbraccio da Milano 🇮🇹 Italia.......a hug my friend ! Take care !
Thanks!! I've been to Italy : ) Stay safe
The adventure, the crossing, the bear, the fish, fantastic vistas, the spirit of self reliance and it goes on and on. Pure food for the soul at times like now. Certainly a one-stop-shop for a Wilderness Junkie like me!!!! Thank you a million times!!!
Thanks all the best!
I bet the old heart sank when that fog set in. Saku mowing down on the blueberries sure he isn't part black bear LOL.
hahah for sure thanks for watching Fred
Alright!!! Let’s get this adventure going!
Thanks Richard enjoy!
Justin Barbour That’s was excellent man! What an amazing lake. Pulling lake trout out like you were at the fish market lol. Already looking forward to the next episode!
@@richardscarponi5613 hahaha it was wicked brother wish you could have been there to see it
True
Hello from Ontario!
As soon as this quarantine businesses is over I'm heading to your neck of woods. It's beautiful over there, can't wait to camp there.
It is for sure thanks for watching Stevan
"Let's go fishin' bu'ys."
"Ya know the waves are 6 ft."
"Yeah, well, hopefully it stays calm like that."
May seem silly, but when you see a fisherman quickly put a fish in his canoe with rapid concern, you are seeing a man catching a meal. It is one of the things I love about your videos. You are carrying supplies, but you are so hopeful and desirous of more calories. It further shows the challenge you are undertaking. Great stuff. Hang tough.
Way to go everything is real good Saku is pretty amesing on this journey!
he is thanks for watching!
The piece of gear that is impressing me the most is that shagging MSR tent. I am surprised at the beating it can take.MSR should be grateful to you. If you did it again would you take a dip net? Awesome trip.
Thanks for watching, all the best 🛶🏕 I dunno if dip net is needed but would be a big help.Just something extra to break, lose and carry.
This may be my favorite episode to date. Those boys that came in to crush some aluminum cylinders made me so happy haha. Loving the series so far this trips been something else.
haha thanks for watching Pierre, how can ya not love a few cold pops
Saku is just lovin the soft moss in the sun
So excited that you have uploaded, have been looking forward to this, your adventures are amazing!
Thanks Nat happy to have you : ) all the best.
Thank you for taking us on this amazing adventure, every minute is interesting, exciting and just wonderful. I have said it before and I will say it again that you have such a good attitude to all the challenges you face on your journey. I love your videos.
Thanks happy to have you
Know you’re not spoiled with good fishing when ya figure a 1-2lb trout is a “small one”!!! Another great episode Justin. Thanks for letting us follow along! Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks Brad! All the best
As always man this is awesome. So please let us know when you are doing a guest spot on the Joe Rogan Experience talking about your journeys!
haha one day thanks for watching, all the best 🛶🏕
Love it!
Thanks Mayur!
I love saku's reactions when you're fishing and you get one. He gets excited just as much as you do. Lol he's such a beautiful dog.
Loving the series mate 👌👍🇦🇺
Well done again. Crossing the lake - wow. And good boys. Sorry for a lure loss What a gigantic fish was that.
This is good I have been waiting for this hehehehe
Thanks Josephine : )
Excellent videos. There are times when you make me laugh out loud with your sense of humor and then there are times that I am gripping the arms of my chair in fear for you being out in the wild, especially when you are crossing a large lake in fog and can't see land. You sir, are an excellent woodsman. So very proud that you are Canadian.
Been loving this video series man. What an epic trip. Smallwood looked like a humbling paddle, but I have no doubt you appreciated it after all that rocky river travel. Can’t wait to see the rest of the series!
Legend has it that he slammed his finger in a truck door and said that's it im going into the wilderness for 83 days!!!
Hahaha
Did an outward bound course in 1980 in Minnesota. Your show is making me want to get back out in my canoe 😀
That was so dang cool how those fellas went out of their way to find you, hang out, and cook up some chow. Got some nice folks up in that part of the world.
not goona lie i idolize you justin...your journeys are absolutely incredible..what an amazing life saku gets to live too..this is as good as it gets..end of story
You are my hero. Thanks for creating this video series, its an absolute masterpiece. Keep the videos coming!
The first time I saw a bear swimming it really surprised me too. I would never have guessed they could swim if I hadn't seen it for myself. Saw it swim out to a small island on lake superior. Crazy.
Nature is chance, Randomness that is Nature.
Wow! That crossing in the fog! I think I would have lost it. You and Saki have nerves of steel.
Great videos! Please give Saku a good Pet from me. Big lakes are very intimating in a small open canoe . You were wise to exploit that window of calm water .
Thanks Clifford all the best buddy.
i usually sit on the couch and watch youtube on my laptop while my better half watches her crap on the 65" in front of me. i'm taking over the big screen for this one. i'm very envious of this trip!
Thanks 🛶Take care !
Thanks so much, as always Justin! Love your adventures, your videos, your connection with Saku, the water & the land! Hate waiting for the next episodes, but it’s well worth it! God bless, and thanks again 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Thanks for watching, all the best!
Love your video's Justin. Sorry I Havn't watched this till now. I am so far behind in watching my videos. My dog passed, and I Havn't felt up to doing much, including watching you tube. But I'm trying to catch up now. Had her 13 years and it broke my heart when she died in my arms. She was like my kid.
Unadulterated. Total brilliance.
Thanks!
Hands down one of the most epic bushcrafter, survivalist, extremist, and adventurer! You have taken us to amazing places and I know a sat phone means nothing where you have been. From PA You and Saku be well my friend.
What a epic journey, its so hard going upstream with all your stuff, phantastic Saku, you are a lucky man.
Cheers
Hayo
Thank you! All the best
Just amazing Justin I absolutely love it. Thank goodness you did this trip before all this drama. God bless you 🙏❤️
Thanks Eileen!
That dog is living its best life
He is thks all the best!
It must have been a surreal feeling to be in the middle of such a big body of water without being able to see the shore!
We sure laughed when Saku got out of the water and shook himself so hard he looked like he was going to fall over! He sure is a great companion and travel buddy!
Looking forward to the rest of the journey!!
Thanks b'y , all the best !
Over the years I have heard so many great stories of fishing on the Smallwood system, Always wanted to go, so thank you for taking me on your fishing trip.be safe...... Dan
Thanks Dan glad you enjoyed it, hope you can get there some day all the best
Those Lakers were certainly impressive! I guess that’s what it would be like on hidden lakes with way less pressure on a species. What an experience!
What a treat!!! A Justin Barbour video. Some of the best adventure on the tube. Thanks, Justin and say hello to Saku for me.
Thanks for tuning in!
That was the fastest 45 minutes of this week, better than any tv show. Thanks for posting Justin and look forward to the next episode in two weeks. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks for watching, all the best Leonard 🛶🏕
Thanks so much for what you do Justin. Always look forward to your videos. Cheers from Winnipeg B'y, now giver a flick and get some mud trout.
Thanks Bill!
Excellent! Only one thing is missing and that is the "love it" button. A simple "like" does not cut it!
Thanks! All the best
Thanks for taking me along for the ride
Thanks glad you enjoyed John
I've been on the ride a long time, and really all I can say is Wow! Not really anyone that can tell the story of adventure any better that this. Always a special treat at the end of the week.
Thanks, Gerald! Happy trails
That was so often crossing a very large lake in the fog. I wish I was there. I like the suspense that surely nothing could go wrong!
I am notorious for skipping through long videos. Not yours. I hang on every paddle stroke. Beautiful trip and you have real skill with self filming. Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks for watching, all the best 🛶🏕
You are a legend pal. Finally buying a canoe this week thanks to you.
Thanks Colin enjoy!
Watching this under quarantine in Ontario. Soothing to see the vast, wide open wilderness. Living vicariously through this series and and looking forward to getting back into the bush once the parks open again. Yeoman's work my friend. Keep it up. Got all my friends watching you also. Love from Ontario
37:10 to 37:23 is the best Canadian conversation ever. I love it! Hello from Québec!
Oh gosh, what a journey! Just made it from Ep 1, 2 &3...and had to stop to buy your book...now on to Ep 4! what a joy.
I gotta say, this adventure is right up there with Jim Baird and some of his trips. Nothing can compare to being there in person but its good to know we have people like you out there bringing your stories back for us to enjoy. Hard to wait for the next episode but it's worth it. Thanks
still say land and sea should do an episode on u and saku.It would be great and people would love it.
thanks berndog!
I just light up when I see you have posted another video, thanks for these, really enjoy watching, that intro tune gives me goosebumps every time I here it, and I am all the way on the west coast of BC, take care
Thanks, all the best !
Thank you again for sharing your Labrador excursion and the great fishing. Wishing I was 20,years younger.

Another amazing episode in this series. You are definitely this generation’s Ray Mears. We get to enjoy the beauty of the vast wilderness up there by vicariously watching through the lens of your camera. Cheers Justin on another great episode.

So glad you rolled the dice and went across the lake! Gut feelings are the one!
