    • DOCUSERIES: Across Lab...
At 1.4 million km², the Labrador Peninsula is one of the last great wilderness areas on the planet. In 2018 I set a goal to cross its width by canoe.
From the Labrador Sea to Hudson Bay it was an estimated 1700 kilometre journey that would last 83 days.
With only my dog Saku, I would travel, up and down remote rivers, across enormous lakes, and over portages that were littered with both beauty and danger.
We would witness and camp in wilderness that few, if any, have ever seen and rewind back to a time when life was simpler.
Along the way, I filmed our experiences. Now, in a docuseries format, we bring it to life for you, right here on UA-cam.

Absolutely soaked these episodes up like a sponge! Thoroughly enjoy every minute and especially love how you look after your little companion so well. It just adds so much heart to your story young man. As an Australian lady, it’s also a great education about the types of challenges you face in a vastly different wilderness to what we have here! Fabulous fabulous.. just love it!

Just got home from a 4 day trip with heavy backpack and lots of walking each day. I love outdoors, but man im excausted now, and its only 4 days trip.
What you do is just over the top impossible. To quote one of the things you said in your previous trip. "they where superhuman". But you too are superhuman for doing what you do! Keep it up.

Hey Justin, I hope you didn’t take my comment on episode 2 the wrong way… I think your content is wonderful, and meant no offense. Anyway, based on the quote at the beginning of episode 3, I thought you might be interested to know that I had the great good fortune of working with Horace Goudie at a fish camp on the Atikonak the summer of 1991. At the end of the season we paddled out to Muskrat Falls and I was privileged to share his tent with him. He showed us all the old camp sites and cache points from the old trapping days, and generally showed us how it was done. He was a wonderful guy and I was honored to call him my friend and share that beautiful time with him. That was a long time ago now, but the memories come flooding back when I watch your videos. Many thanks and keep up the good work!

Great adventure as usual but I got a little confused at around 9 minutes in the video. You had to get out of the lake because of the storm hitting you pretty fast so you find a spot after bushwacking alders to set your tarp and start a fire. The day after you hang your clothes to dry but it's not the same location ? The camp is different and the lake shore is not the same at 14 minutes ? Did I miss something in between? Still a good adventure video , and wouldnt want to miss an episode 👍

    • @JustinBarbournlexplorer
      @JustinBarbournlexplorer  4 роки тому +2

Thanks for watching Sylvain. It is the same camp I just cleared some brush looks bigger. As for the next scene that's on to another camp. As you can imagine sometimes there are gaps in footage. Cpl days apart sometimes. It was difficult to keep cameras charged with continual overcast. That's the challenges of being out there so long. Later in the trip I go about one week with no footage. Main priority then is keeping SOS device charged 👍 The videos only scratch the surface of the trip. Best wishes

Justin, ... you are a superb woodsman and adventurer.... I grew up canoe camping with portaging... was a geologist student working across canada in my youth from New Brunswick, NWT, BC I love the Canadian wild. But you are HARDCORE man. 1700km, across Smallwood of 18 km of open water in the fog,... evading storms at the ickof time....man. I'm speechless. Your blow by blow descriptions, your upbeat relentless attitude, charming Newfoundland temperament and amazing videography and sound Watching you has inspired me to resurrect my kayak to find some peace of God's good earth to refresh my soul, even though I am stuck in Windsor ON truck driving. Ya-ha whooo.

IMPORTANT: Should we be concerned for Mr. Barbour and Saku's safety? I mean, all that way to go and only one episode left? Something is not right here, very worrying. Justin please respond.

I'm glad to see Menihek lake, my dad had told me about this lake he once saw back in the early 1950's when he was surveying for the Québec Northshore Railway all the way from Seven Islands Qc. Quite a nice journey you are on, nice fishing and beautiful scenery.

People talk about the wilds of Alaska but thriving in Labrador comes with its own unique challenges. Good, good series. Thanks, Justin.

Another awesome adventure, Justin. These videos are getting more intense as you push through and have to fight the weather to stay on schedule. The weather change at the beginning was intense. You went from a beautiful & sunny day, to snow very quickly.

So genuine and courageous and yet humble. Thank you for sharing. On a side note, I love the fact that you have (not all, but some) crappy gear, makes your experiences so relatable.

Ever since I took a sea kayak expedition in northern Labrador in 1973, I have fantisized about crossing Labrador by canoe. I always thought it would be physically impossible, but now with the big reservoirs....And you're doing it and letting me watch, Justin! All of the work and none of the suffering! What a treat for me! I'm forever in your debt!

You gained another subscriber. Watched the whole series so far.Took a week long canoe trip with my then 11 year old son 3 summers ago. This makes me want to pack the canoe and head into the wilderness. For a weekend, maybe a week, not 83 days ...

True adventurer Justin. Great to see you got a mention in Explorers Web 100 links to checkout (most on UA-cam too). I love it how you show the reality of adventures; the good, the bad (weather) and ugly (weather/black flies etc).
