Lost In The Yukon - Epic Canoe Trip Down Remote Big Salmon River In The Yukon Territory
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лис 2024
- In the summer of 2023, Ashley and I (Keenan) drove to the Yukon for a summer of adventure and to canoe down the Big Salmon River. We would end up traveling hundreds of kilometres through the wilderness, winding our way through the mountains. We would have some amazing wildlife encounters, small rapids to run, log jams to overcome and storms to weather but it was the trip of a lifetime. We have spent many summers in the Yukon and all we can say is "what an absolutely amazing place to see and explore". This trip through remote Yukon Territory was one of the best canoe trips we've ever been on. Hope you guys enjoy the video....we are so excited to share this adventure with you.
Also wanted to say a big thank you to Doug at Nisutlin Outfitting for his help this summer. If you guys are planning a trip to the Yukon and the Big Salmon, or many of its other rivers are on your paddling list, Doug is an absolute awesome guy to deal with and can help you accomplish your trip. Thanks again Doug for your help and conversation on the road trip. We hope to see you again next summer. nisutlinoutfit...

Thank you! That’s a great compliment. 🇮🇳 🇨🇦
What a memory. I canoed down the Big Salmon River 50 years ago. Thanks for the memory.
Wow that’s incredible. It’s so remote now I can’t imagine 50 years ago. What an experience.
How GLORIOUS, AND BEAUTIFULLY PRODUCED. Having Ashley read was a stroke of utter brilliance. There is no other youtube canoeing adventure that tops that, just Splendid. Thank you. I am so glad to see Ashley we couldnt know if shed lost desire to go with you, we always think the worst......what a joy to see all 4 of you. I wrote this poem year's ago.
Alone by the River,
Gazing high to the peaks,
The fresh mountain wind in my hair,
My soul is restored, my spirit renewed,
For its God that I feel when I'm there.
Absolutely beautiful poem! Ashley certainly hasn’t lost her desire to go on these trips. I’m just able to get more time off work so I’m out there a little more. Thanks so much for your extremely nice comment.
That's a beautiful poem
WHAT an amazing channel. 10/10. Many thanks from England.
Wow, thanks!
Based on the filming and editing, id say you deserve a 0 behind that 26. Hello, UA-cam Algo, this channel needs more subscribers.
That's really nice of you to say. I think as long as we continue to make better videos good things will come. Enjoying the process of learning. Best of luck with your UA-cam channel as well. Appreciate the comment and support.

I watch a lot of camping/fishing/canoeing content on UA-cam, and am so thrilled to have found yours. There are many great creators, but you are the finest filmmaker I've come across. Breathtaking photography! Keep up the amazing work!
Awesome, thank you! That's really nice of you to say!
With all the madness in the world what a way to spend the evening in front of the fireplace and a big screen tv. Another epic Canoe the North video. They just keep getting better and better. THX CHEERS!!!

The sound from the gravel banks was amazing.
It’s mesmerizing isn’t it. That’s how we always feel paddling past those places.

2nd time watched and Wow! Stunning landscape and wildlife, Ash reading, Bettylou excitedly whimpering at each fish landed, Hugo popping his head up every now and then, your lovely encouragment and celebration of working together all sewn together with beautiful narration.
Excellent work guys! A truly wonderful doco! Warm regs from Aus 💚⚘

That’s a very nice comment to receive. Thank you very much!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video and wanted to thank you for sharing your adventures. The Yukon has always held a special place for me and my family. Never been there but my grandfather did and loved to share his adventures and love for the area.. My grandfather was born in Upstate NY in 1903. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in his late teens and after spending two years stationed on Lake Ontario transferred to Junea Alaska. He absolutely fell in love with the area and would venture up and down the coast with fellow Coasties when they had time off. He eventually spent time in the Whitehorse area and after leaving the CG found work as a teacher in that area. He would spend his time off in the summers exploring and living off the land paddling the Yukon and smaller tributaries for weeks at a time. He spent over 10 years in AK and the Yukon territory before moving back to NY to be with family. He married, raised a family, and later returned back to Juneau in the 60s on a tour. I was born in the 50s and loved to hear the stories he told of paddling, camping, hunting and fishing. Usually he shared these stories while we were hunting or fishing. On several occasions he mentioned that they would pan gold from the smaller tributaries and recieved 30 dollars Canadian per ounce. He passed away in 1997 and my Mom inherited his possessions. After his passing my Mom asked for help clearing his home out to get it ready to sell. It was quite a chore and took months. My mom had seen most of his picture albums over the years but I had never seen the Yukon pictures. We also discovered a diary that she had never seen that was from his years in that area. The kicker was the maps that showed where he started these summer adventures, campsites, portage trails and even locations where they panned gold. Months later my Mom discovered a leather pouch with gold dust and small nuggets when she was going through some boxes. There were other sentimental finds with the gold that must have been just as important to him. I suggested she sell the gold and take a trip up their with my Dad but it never materialized. Mom gave me the gold and most of the other finds from that area. I treasure them all.
This is such a perfect comment to receive. Can’t thank you enough for sharing this story with us. Wow. What an incredible life that was for your grandfather. Incredible.
Great video. Your trips are just stunning
Thanks so much! Thanks nice of you to say.
Bill Mason has a huge smile on his face watching you two … as soon as I began to watch your controlled descent with you back paddling and grabbing those eddies I was impressed and was waiting for you to announce that you were filming another one of the Mason films. Sooo well done and you made it look effortless. Thank you for reminding us how to run a river…
Well you can’t ask for a nicer comment than that! Bill Mason is such a legend. Love watching his paddling films. Thank you so much for the nice comment.
(Wife typing) My five boys and I just found your movie, and are just enamored! Especially so when we saw the first glimpse of your Newfie! I used to raise Newfies and have our favorite puppy (8 years old now) resting on our front porch. Greetings from Iowa, USA!
No way! Love Newfoundland dogs. What a breed. Thank you very much for the comment. 🇺🇸 🇨🇦

That makes two of us. Thank you!
Filmed and told with a lot of feeling! Perfect camera work and balanced mysticism, which can only be experienced by real nature lovers! Memories are awakened, we drove the B.S. 18 years ago. Thanks for taking it away! This is how films must be made: congratulations! LG Wolfgang
Thank you so much Wolfgang. Looks like you’ve had some incredible journeys of your own. We would love to paddle the upper liard one day. Thanks again for your comment.
Boy you guys do such a beautiful job with these videos. So happy I found your channel. Inspiring.
So glad! We are happy
You’ve found our channel and have been enjoying the videos.
Your trip epics always rekindle that fire in me for my own next adventure, and increasingly, for something much bigger than I've done before. My wife enjoyed this one with me too, staying in for the whole thing even though she said she had work to do & could only watch the first few minutes with me - ha! Like a certain brand of chips, once you start you can't stop!!
lol 😂. That’s a great compliment to hear that we were able to keep your wife watching with you Ron. Thank you so much for your comments and support. It’s always greatly appreciated.
Thank you for sharing that wonderful canoe trip. Beautiful. The reading of passages in the book, what a perfect touch.
We love to hear that. Thank you!
Amazing scenery, love the format, Ashley reading aloud is a nice addition.
Your movies just get better and better x
It’s all Ashley ❤️ 🛶

Wow. Just wow. I don't leave comments. Ever. This is a masterpiece that pulled me in instantly and kept me enthralled for the duration.
I'm 40 and just getting into canoeing thanks in part to videos like this. This is now definitely on my bucket list.
Well thank you very much for the comment. Hope you have many memorable trips in your newfound hobby. Canoeing is the best thing in the world. Enjoy! 🛶

Thank you very much.
Wonderfully done, as usual. Your dogs are so friggin' cute. And the design of those trappers cabins are incredible. Bucket list trip guys.
Thanks very much Steve. We love all those cabins alone the river. Like stepping back in time. Thanks for watching. Appreciate it very much.
This entire video was so incredibly well done! The intro with the music and wildlife scenes immediately had me drawn in...I knew then I was along for an incredible journey. Thanks so much Keenan and Ashley! I really loved Ashley's reading and narrating, together with a well edited master piece! Well done.
Thank you so much for the nice comment. Glad you enjoyed the reading. That was all Ashley’s idea. 💡 🛶
Great intro dude! Your cinematography and sound always blow me away. Your videos are the few I wait to watch on my full sized TV, instead of just the phone. Can’t wait to see this on the big screen!
Awesome to hear that. Appreciate the message very much. Hope
You enjoy.
I watched it last night and was very moved by the narration during the final shot. You truly captured the feeling of why we dream about and canoe the north. Thank you again!!!!@@CanoeTheNorth
Another epic trip to the Yukon. The river looks so peaceful in the drone shots, but then your camera captures just how wild the river really is. Thx for sharing.
Thanks Doug. What a great river it was to paddle. Thanks so much for the comment.
Ashley"s sweet soothing voice reading was a great addition. Thanks for a wonderful trip!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you. I could listen to her read all day.
Amazing views.
💯. It’s an amazing place.
Awesome, can't wait to watch this!!! Here we go here we go here we go!!
Ok I'm going too , go go go ! 🚣
Hope you enjoy it!
The fact that you too did this, together, with 2 dogs!?! You are 1 out of a trillion plus. Thank you for this video. I haven't even finished watching it and I had to comment.
Thanks very much for the comment. Those 2 dogs have canoed literally thousands of kilometres now and couldn’t imagine tripping without them. Appreciate the comment very much.
Another award winning video. WELL DONE thank you!!!
Wow, thanks!
Relationship goals right here. You two are an inspiration. What a great team!
Wow, thank you! 😊
Sitting at breakfast this morning I saw you had a new video and I knew watching it on my IPad wouldn’t do it justice. Grabbed my coffee and had movie night on the big screen at 7 am and this video is magic guys. The narration and the way you wove Ashley reading the book into the story was moving. Incredible camera and sound work as well as music. Not many UA-cam videos I watch that are over an hour that leave me wanting more, but this video sure did. Wishing you two a Happy Christmas and a 2024 that is full of winding rivers and more adventure.
Thanks so much Cliff. Merry Christmas to you as well.
Outstanding!!!!! Should post more footage showing camp life and FISHING!!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Its hard to put into words how glorious your country is Wow! Thankyou for sharing it with us. Warm regards from Aus 💖
We are certainly extremely lucky here. Thanks so much 🇨🇦 🇦🇺
Awesome video--it was awesome to see you work together in the canoe. This is pro level production!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate that!
Looks like an excellent adventure. Thanks for filming and sharing it.
You’re more than welcome. Thank you for watching!
Ahhh...so many memories and feelings rekindled. My wife and I did this trip in the early 70's when it was still possible for me to sling a cedarstrip canoe up on my shoulders and to tromp along the portage trails. The 5 to 8 km drift of the Yukon and falling asleep to the sound of rocks rolling down an escarpment across the river. Thank you for the memories.
That would have been an incredible trip. Glad we could bring back some memories of past trips. Thank you for the comment.
aaaah gooosebumpssss memoriessss!! So beautiful guys, will watch between today and tomorrow xxx
those final words by Robert service.... I want to go back and I will!!!!! Can't wait to return to that land

@@CanoeTheNorth so excited 😊 🤗 ❤️
Yukon sure does have some seriously unpredictable weather. Intense squalls and sun breaks wow. What an incredible experience.
It’s an incredible place. Thank you so much for
WOW ...amazing! Your films convey the experience of canoe tripping better than any others, love them! i'm 72 now, but canoe tripping was always our go to for vacations throughout the decades. My wife loved it as much as I, and sadly lost her to cancer 3 years ago. So many great memories, and your films rekindle them so well.
We are so sorry to hear about your wife. Thats got to be incredibly tough. We are glad that’s videos can help bring back some memories. Thank you.
That was your best film so far. Amazing footage of an amazing country. The film and the music and the words just came together so beautifully. Pure inspiration.

So beautifully done this video, pure gold. Remarkable how loving the two of you are towards eachother... keep it up
Thank you so much! 😊
She is so adorable. And I don't think I have said that since I was in high school 35 years ago. You guys are so Zen, I'll just watch you to see how couples should talk to each. Her readings are epic and beautiful. So sweet. And I love her her gap. Character!

Awesome video! It was really cool seeing all those cabins along the way. It must have been such a peaceful vacation!
It definitely was. We love it there.
Great teamwork!
Thanks so much!
Great video guys! I was intrigued by your shelter choice and enjoyed seeing the info in previous comments. It looked like it worked perfectly! It looks like you survived mainly on your own dehydrated meals as usual… would love to see a brief vid with your gear and food that you brought and the pros or cons to anything that worked really well or not so well. Enjoy your next adventures!
Thank you! I’ll have to do a gear video sometime. We seem to get a lot of questions on our setup. Thanks for watching and for the comment
Getting closer to home for me. a grand video. Thank you for taking us along.
Our pleasure! Thank you! 😊
Awesome! Such a great place and time for y'all. Enjoyed it, thanks for sharing your adventure!

Beautiful! Cant wait to give this a watch!
Hope you enjoy it Max. Thanks man.
This is beyond "EPIC". I have never watch a video this well done, with a topic dear to my heart, than yours! Your talent with this video has gone beyond expectations, scenery captures, journaling, all of it superb! Every time I see you and Ashely sharing your adventures, I grab my canoe and go for a paddle. Thank you two so much for all this....just doesn't get any better. Never stop!
Well if we can inspire you to hope in the canoe and go for a paddle we’ve accomplished what we were hoping to do. Can’t ask for a better comment and compliment than this. Thanks so much Jim.
@@CanoeTheNorth You all have a Very Merry Christmas...
I love your Videos ❤❤❤ Its soooooooo great!!!!
Thank you so much!! 😊
O.K!! Just grabbed my birthday dinner and am sitting down for a treat it seems! It's contagious...first the Baird's, then Eze, now Canoe the north. Sweet. great tarp set up at 54:57, that would take me 3 days to figure out and setup.
Check out Xander Budnick and Lost Lakes as well. Both great camping/fishing/outdoors content creators
Happy birthday! Glad you had some enjoyable content on your big day. Hope it was a good one.
I have been looking forward to your video. Thank you. Watching you two is like my own escape to the North.
That’s awesome. Glad we can be your escape to North. 🍁
Good story about Dick Proenneke. Cool that you saw it in person! You're one of my favorites to watch, keep up the excellent work. Love that Ash and the dogs come along when they can. You and solo is cool but family is what makes the best memories.
Always love having Ashley and the pups along for the journeys. Thank you!
PURE GOLDEN MOMENT WITH FAMILY, PRICELESS 😊
Another masterpiece! Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
It’s our pleasure. Thank you so much.
The most impressive thing about your Yukon trips is that you drive to them. That is a feat all on its own considering you're from Ontario (iirc).
BTW, the production quality and editing of your videos is bar-setting. As much as I love the other guys' stuff in this category, I'm most excited when I see you have a new video. I hope I drive the compliment home by saying that Jon/Lost Lakes is a close second. I suspect that he wouldn't be too disappointed to come in second to your videos.
I won’t tell Jon you said that! 😂. That’s a great compliment. Jon and Erin do a fantastic job with their videos so I really appreciate your comment. Thanks very much.
I know you mean well, but keep this in mind when you comment. "Comparison is the thief of joy."
Smashed it outta the Ball Park. Great editing.. Thanks Canoe the North
Appreciate that very much! 🎥
Well done Ashley and Keenan! Another stunning video. Absolutely loved watching it. I am currently reading a wonderful book called Kings of the Yukon - An Alaskan River Journey by Adam Weymouth. He also paddles down the Big Salmon River. Your video really brought the whole terrain to life. Wishing you both a really happy Christmas. Esmond
Woo. We’ll have to look for that book. Sounds interesting. Thank you so much for the comment.
The way you work together is as beautiful as the scenery! Great show!
Thanks very nice. Thank you so much.
Still the best tarp setup on UA-cam.
We love our tarps! 🏕️
