I was a traditional homemaker for 25 years until widowed. My husband considered my work as important as his, we both got a personal allowance, plus he treated me. If I ever referred to his income as “your money”, he reminded me, “ it’s our money”.

    • @sallystorm2640

I think the difference with that is - that was a choice you both made and there was no expectation of you getting a job. Your job was being the homemaker (which no one is saying is wrong - can be a great thing!) for her tho the guy was a bum, he fell into hard times loosing his job and enjoyed her looking after him he carried on acting that way for 5 years - he was manipulating the situation. For 5 years she’s aired the problem out to him and he’s carried on. She’s not his mom and she didn’t agree to it and he kept saying he was gonna get a job

@@sallystorm2640But you don't know that. He may have actually been doing all the house work and doing his best to get jobs, and getting discriminated against in a society that is often kinder to Black women than Black men. Besides, if he says he has been paying all the credit cards, and she says she has been paying them all, who do we believe?

I was married on my 21st birthday, and had a child at 22 and one at 23. He started being jealous of the kids and controlling. Four years after having the children, he came home one day from work and informed me that he took our money out of our joint account and opened one up with just his name. He told me that I'm going to have to beg him for money now. The next day when he went to work, I changed the locks on the doors, asked my landlady to put only my name on the receipts. I kicked him out, and this was after I asked him to go to marriage counselling and he said nothing was wrong and didn't want to. I never looked back. I'm 50 now and engaged to a wonderful man

My husband who was a retired Navy chief was about the most macho of macho men in appearance and in his vocation. When I told him I wanted to go on a Euro Rail train ride through about ten countries in Europe, he had no desire to go but he told me he had no problem if I wanted to go without him. So I did.
I took my grown niece and we were gone for about 10 days and he was totally cool with that. It's just that after 20 years in the Navy, he had no desire to do any more extended traveling but he understood that I had not spent 20 years in the Navy and I had not done any traveling and he didn't mind my going without him. I didn't actually mind either. I would have PREFERRED to go with him but my niece and I had a great time too. If he had told me, "I'm not paying for a trip for you to go to Europe because you should be satisfied with just the basics", I'm pretty sure we never would have lasted for the 31 years we were married...very happily, I might add. This guy is nuttier than a fruit cake!

@AbsurdExistence-p4 but it is their money??? My Dad worked at sea 6+ months a year. My mother worked part time, kept the house running etc and that allowed him to work the long hours he did and she initially supported him through his study which allows him to earn the money he does... so bit of give and take works out fair. The husband probably has his own things he enjoys.

While on a video chat date, a man told me he did not want to wait a month to go on an old-fashioned, in-person date. He stated, "You are not a high value enough woman to make requests or make anyone wait for you." He was saying this from his bedroom, in the basement of his parent's house. I was sitting comfortably in my home, which I own outright.
I laughed and laughed, and then I went through how he had misunderstood the situation. I suggested fewer basement video chats and more touching grass. I also suggested better photos and a less shitty attitude. I told him I would be blocking him. He asked if we could at least be friends. 🤦‍♂️

My friends out there, and this is talking from the experience of someone who has been in abusive relationships twice. NEVER talks about what you consider green flags or red flags to your new date. NEVER talk about what your exes did to you and what you dont wanna have done to you again. NEVER give them that kind of information. If they ask, "What's your stance in blah?" Turn it around to them and ask them to tell you first. We tend to be open books, thinking that our dates will be honest back, but instead, they might be there fishing for information about how to mirror you, lovebomb you, and appear like a perfect match. If you let them be themselves and get their opinions out first, they can't build a mask, and you will be able to see if true compatibility there or if its just lovebombing. My therapist from the abused womens group told me that info, and it changed my life. Take care out there! The dating pool has a lot of lovely people, but the waters are also full of sharks.

And then their truth came out much later at which my mind was so messed with that it was easy to be gaslit and manipulated
Looking back it’s unbelievable to me that as intelligent and independent as I am I was still able to lose myself under the narcissistic abuse
Took me awhile to turn things around from that and begin to heal and find my inner strength and truth once again

This is actually a really good point although Leo in mind that if the person is neurodivergent, that is how they show their interest. Watch for micro expressions or ones that don’t match what they are saying. Joy rather than grief, mistimed illustrators, Even the pace might be off, a slow pace for an anxious sentiment. Dupers delight, a quick slight smirk, is one to get familiar with. Truth is, that liars are caught by people they have repeated interactions with because everyone has a different baseline and when you are meeting new people, you are already in an accommodating state of mind.

@TheBaumcm im neurodivergent myself, and lovebombing and overshearing and mirroring is something I've had to work on in therapy too for that same reason. I mean, it requires no effort for me to open up and dump my special interest on anyone who gives me an ear, but i need to be weary of ulterior motives. Neurospicy people are also super easily duped and fall into abusive relationships and start justifying behavious because of our rejection sensitivity a lot of times. But also as my therapist said, there are also abusive neurodivergent people. Just take your time to know people and move slowly, if they love you, they will accept going slow. If they pressure you they are not good for you. Impulsivity and self control are a hard thing to train :_D

@@nannadie I will say this , and not as a criticism. For me, as a guy, women who give good feedback are the best ones to date. Every person has different likes and dislikes and a different set of past experiences. a person who is very entitled or unreasonable is normally what is thought as hard to deal with. For me at least someone who is super reasonable is as well. The don't give you good feedback when you are entering a territory that they don't like, so the burden is upon you to just ...."sense"... that they are unhappy when they give little outward signs of it. Even if you want to be reasonable and strike the right balance between each person's likes, it is harder to do if you don't get good feedback.
a common example is if you like certain restaurant and she doesn't really, but goes along to be reasonable because you like it and pretends to have a good time for your sake. then later on , when she can't take she blows up when she can't stand going there again.
the easiest person to deal with is the one who lets you know that you are stepping on their toes the first time, and not in a irate manner, so you can learn and modify your behavior so that both can be happy. other wise , they are making the other person responsible for not doing things they don't know annoy their partner.
I think people who don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill are good intentioned, but sometimes are unnecessarily unhappy because the other person might also think a molehill and easily avoided in the future.
      so two things I try:
      1) if I see my potential partner do something I find annoying I ask myself: "if they did this in ever case where the situation comes up , can I stand it for a life time?" if not, I politely give feedback.
      2) if I give feedback, I pay attention to how it is received. if they make no real effort (even if they are not perfect, but they are trying is not in this category) then it is not a good match. Doesn't make them any bad word, just not a good match.
like protecting yourself is 100% fine. but giving good feedback and then watching how it is received is just good communication. a lot of people say communication is important, btu then don't do this.
I hope this makes sense what I am trying to say. not a criticism or even directly related to your point, but my personal experience that came to mind after reading your comment and thought it might be useful because being in a good relationship is not as simple as "finding the right person". and every person who is not for you is not some variation of sociopath or predator.
if you don't communicate your needs and dislike at some point, you are not giving the other person a chance to take them into account, so yo have to strike the right balance.

Asplundh is a Swedish surname that means “aspen grove” and it is quite common here in Sweden, although spelling it with an H is rarer and “more American”, I guess. But it’ so funny that she thinks it’s some kind of unique name, because it really isn’t. And now she made it “famous” for all the wrong reasons. Way to go, girl.

There is always something going up (or down) in their life and they need money all of the freaking time. And in the long run it sadly becomes your love language, to buy him something or to help him with money. He has alternatives, he can drive, and then he can work to earn his own money. Mine was "too depressed" to work, but didn't want to see a therapist even with my financial help. I helped him because he had animals and I loved them. And because he had a difficult life, yada yada. But so have I. So I chose to help myself. Kudos to the girl who finaly had the guts to ditch him.

But then I start reading the comments and y’all are obviously spot on…why is he booking a flight the day before? Why does he need HER card and HER money? Where’s his money? Clearly I need more therapy and practice to improve my radar 😂

I’m still on his side. 🤷‍♀️ I get her point, I really do, but what a horrid thing to do to someone trying to attend their mom’s funeral. My husband is a d$ck (we are separated) and I would still give him money if he needed to get to his mom’s funeral. Doing what she did just causes bad feelings and resentment, making a divorce that much more difficult.
As for why he waited until the day before? Could be several reasons. Some funerals happen quickly. I had about 2 days to plan to get to my dad’s. Maybe he was hoping for a flight deal, maybe he had to arrange around work, who knows?

Especially I didn't think how much of a red flag it is that he was recording himself and playing the victim card. Like if ericka took him off of her credit card, instead of recording he should've found another way to get the money, as there are more important things to do like attending his mom's funeral.

Recognition that you might have a problem is the first step towards healing and new habits. ❤ It may be LOVE or it might only be a CRUSH that feels really good. Some people settle for users, abusers and losers because they don't want to be alone.
My mom joined a new church and a group of ladies invited her to be part of their clique. She was thrilled. They were all married and because mom wasn't, it was expected that she would be at all events, plan events, do the heavy lifting. They were allowed to say "I have to check with Bob, first" "I can't go because Steve and I are busy." Mom didnt have that excuse. Eventually, a man at her church who had been part of group activities asked her to marry him. They hadn't dated one on one, but she agreed. She wanted to be married like everyone else, it had been a long time since she had dated and I was in another state. He turned out to be an emotional abuser. She denied physical abuse. I didn't believe her and couldn't prove it. She developed COPD and was given 2-3 years. I fully believe he OD'ed her, but cant prove it.
Never settle. Never be afraid to leave because of your pride.
