A vendor tried to sell me a pretzel for $3. I told him that's a tourist price and I'm a New Yawker and I'll pay him $2 for the pretzel. He said OK. That's how you do it.
I had the same thing happen to me. I gave the guy 5 and told him to keep the change cuz I'm not a frugal asshole. They have kids to feed as well and they do not make great money
Lmao u complaining about a $3 pretzel but that's actually a fair price cause if u go to wtc memorial they cost $5-$7 and what if your thirsty and the only water available is $5 will u say your a new Yorker then? I'm from queens so getting charged more than $1 for a water is already disrespectful to me but what can u do? If u need it you need it and that's when prices doesn't matter
That happened to me!!!! Next to Central Park by the horse carriages. The guy didn’t have prices listed. Figured two small hotdogs would be under $10 and the guy said $36. I was so pissed! Scam artist, watch out everyone!
**Correction: be aware of vendors regardless of prices being displayed or not. I went to a vendor that changed his price 3 times for a sandwich, and that's how he lost a daily customer!
Did forget to ask that from a cart on 59th & 5th ave by Central Park last Monday. Paid $10 for 1 hot dog with fries. Had my own water. Haven't gone to the city in almost a year but figured it's the normal price.
Great tip!!! This happens everywhere there’s a ton of tourists. Like in LA where I used to live and people thinking they got a deal. Now, whenever I travel I ask for price first.
I believe the price is supposed to be posted on carts and vendors. If there is no price, people can call 311, or the agency that licenses these carts. That's awful some food vendors are scamming people.
Thank you so much for this info. I never thought to check for the prices nor ask before I purchase. I just remember saying they are so high after I’ve purchased it.❤
you can literally just ask ANY new yorker which truck to go to instead of trying to fall for this shit every tourist falls for. no damn water bottle is gonna be $3 be smart about it. you’re in nyc not disneyland. You ask how much it costs and if it sounds expensive it is. The problem is people are so soft and expect people not to rip them off. You can’t be like that in any Chinatown, NYC, Paris, the list goes on. People get scammed all the time then cry about it but don’t understand that people are out there trying to hustle. Either you can fall for it and happily pay a premium or learn to void that shit very easily
Your already getting scammed submitted to paying $2 for a $1 water lol it's not a scam it's called business don't knock their hustle. That's like saying I'm not paying $200 for a steak dinner with your wife when u can easily make the same dinner with 50-100$$.
No prices. Then I won’t purchase.

Dominic, I'm from India so I'm no stranger to bargaining, but bargaining for food is honestly preposterous.

Not y’all trying to defend bargaining $1 for a pretzel. It costs them like $.30 for that pretzel and if you’re not from nyc then foh

I hope you told the guy that $36 was too expensive and he could keep them! And if you bought them, WHY?! $36 for 2 stinkin' hot dogs is insane!
read a tourist was charged $12 for a hotdog.
They're required by law to have their prices posted. Report any vendor that doesn't have prices posted to 311, they'll lose their license
I just paid $4 for water 😭. Went into a pizza place advertised 99c pizza but it was $3 for me. So annoyed!!
I don't like dishonesty !! 🇹🇹
Me neither 🇹🇹
Honesty is the best policy.
so we just gonna sit here and act like a water isnt $1

No Price = No purchase! Cya!

If the price isn't right, leave the items and walk away.
Also don't buy from any food vendors just outside of museums. Go further down a few blocks..

I learned this the hard way when I bought a water for 3 bucks!
It's an informal "sliding scale" system. Imperfect, yes, but so is every method. At least this method is quick! Love your videos, Barr!
Water bottle for $3? yo thats a bargain compare to Australia😂
WELCOME to NEW YORK, NEW YORK ♥️

My friend would give $2 for the bottle of water, and just walk away.
